Below, I posted my NeroHistory log. I've been using 1ClickDVDCopy for a while now. All of a sudden, one day, it stopped reading my source destination > my DVD Writer. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, upgrading firmware for writer and downgrading. Nothing seems to work. I switched to Nero for my burning. It worked fine for a while. Now, again, after about a minute, it encounters an error. I successfully burned a DVD last night after reducing my burning speed to 4x. After that session, I tried to burn another. It failed at 4x after about a minute. I tried reducing it to 2x. It failed at that speed as well.

I though perhaps there was a new windows security update that might be conflicting with burning DVD movies. It turns out, that's not the case. Any help would be hot.

Here is a successful log:

What kind of media are you using? The failed logs (both) don't seem to like the media.

Media files I'm trying to burn are DVD movie files, the same kind I've burned in the past. I'm using DivXtoDVD to convert .AVI files to .VOB then burn to dvd disc. I've been using Memorex DVD+R discs.

This is one of the worst medias that you can use. Very poor quality control and if you visit the media forum at this site you can see the woefull scan results that have been posted there.

Do yourself a favor and get some Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxells. Even Office Depot Branded DVD+R 8x are better than memosux...er memorex.

The rest of the log that I saw looks very reasonable.

I was looking over all my old DVD's that I burned. It seems that the only difference between them is the old ones (most that worked) were 16x and the ones I got this time (by accident) were 8x. Do you suppose that might have something to do with it?

First of re Memorex media (ugh!), see here for reasons not to use them - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406
Quote:
Nero Version: 6.6.0.18
- latest 6.x version

Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 640c> Version: JS04
- firmware is up to date, however see my next comment
Quote:
Recorder: HP DVD Writer 640c, Media type: DVD+R
- the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's foul CMC media but it's an example) of what it should look like, ie when the firmware's up to date you see a 3line paragraph like this -
Quote:
Recorder: DVDRW IDE1004, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
Quote:
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

Session fixation error
- follow ALL suggestions
Quote:
Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s)
- no need to burn so slow, 4x is an acceptable minimum speed

Here's the website for the latest update for that HP640c that I know of:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?dlc=en&l...

I just hooked mine back up so I can use it as a reader and the light scribe feature.I also updated it to the CS30 firmware just an hour or so ago.

The poor compatability on my stand alones and too many read errors are the reason I pulled out this drive after a dozen burns.

It turns out that the DVD+R discs were the problem. It's strange, however, that I've used about 100 of them before with little problem at all. After switching to a new brand, burning has resumed. Thanks for the help.

I screwed up my last post. JS04 is the latest fw update.Mine was CS30 and updated to JS04.

Hold onto those memosux 16x. Maybe HP will have a future firmware update to include those.
