From Maximum PC, August 2005, page 57. "Taming the SATA Beast" article. I tried finding a better pic out there, but this one suits the discussion.

If that is correct, than you know what ddp is gonna say next don't cha??
:)
If they are both SATA drives, they'll each have to be plugged into their own perspective ports on the motherboard. SATA1, SATA2...etc, etc, are for single drive use.
(daisy chaining SATA drives is in the works)

the cable should go in the same kind of slot that your cd drives connect to. there is a smaller slot aswell but thats for floppy drives. if it definately doesnt fit in the same slot that the cd drives go in then perhaps its a scsi drive

if youd been clever about it you would have found out what kind of connection you needed before you bought the drive.
have you actually tried to put it on the same connectors the cd drives are using yet?
the drives can be of different connection you know that wont cause a problem

The easiest way to sort this little ticker of a problem is to take the new drive back and replace it with one identical to the one already in the machine.. whilst your there taking the old one back, why not just take the machine with you and ask them to install it for you!!
Failing that, if you want to keep the new drive, you might have to get another ATA cable with more than one connector on it and daisy them together... from your last comments it sounds like you only have one connector on the cable.
Cheers.
