EDIT: Thread title should read:
PS2 game on DVD+R --> DVD-R. Would it work?
EDIT2: start reading from like post #5. ignore this post.
Ok here's the thing. I had burned a game to poor Memorex DVD+R media only to find out it wouldn't work. So about a week ago I ordered some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media. I should be getting my TY media any minute now.
What I want to know is: If I rip the game from the DVD+R back to my computer, and burn it again to a DVD-R , would the PS2 now read the game? Or is that ISO totally useless now?
My guess is it should work. What do you think?
Oh and one more thing, would the speed I rip the ISO at, to my computer, have any effect on the final product?

i would really not reccomend it. I would do it from an original to the new -R DVD's
If all the info is on the Memorex and is a god burn, but the PS2 just would not read it then yes you should be ok.
But if part of the problem was that the burner did not do a good job burning it to Memorex, then you may have problems.
I know i have taken a game that lagged or skipped and reburned it to a new discs and had no problem, but they were both good quality media's. One was just +R which my PS2 hates, and i reburned it to -R

Ok I just got my Taiyo Yuden media and it has failed me!!!!!!! I burned at 4x with DVD Decrypter and it's not wanting to work! I get a "not valid ps2 disc" everytime! I have tried 2 different games already and neither one is wanting to work.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening to me? I have done everything right so far!

What do you mean your Tayio Yuden have failed you. I thought that they were the best for this. At least thats what others have said. Maybe your not burning it right.

DVD Decrypter is pretty straight forward and I'm pretty knowledgable in this area.
I'm trying with Alcohol 120% now and see what happens.

Ok i'm flooding up two different threads. I will ask in this one for now on.
Ok someone in the other thread said to select the MDS. I choose the ISO file instead. Does that matter at all and is that the problem? What about if there isn't a MDS file to choose? What would I do then?

Yes, us helping you is not enough, you have to help yourself too.
I reccomend burning at half the speed of the maximum disc speed. (Eg. I burn at 4x onto 8x Verbatim discs.)
Also, the games you are trying to play, may need re-built in order for them to work. A very simple yet effective re-building guide - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/259416
Let us know how you get on!

You obviously didn't read the thread. I burned at 4x and 2x. And I downloaded a couple of scene releases of games I actually owned so they should work, but didn't.

I did infact read the entire thread, I decided to mention the burning factor once again to stress how important burning speed is, as a reminder.
The second part of my post was vital. The re-building part which sounds like the source of the problem you're encountering.
I'd appreciate it if you didn't snap back at members who are dedicating their free time in order to help people like yourself with problems which have been covered countless numbers of times in threads, posts, and FAQs.

What game was it that you tried to burn? and how big was the iso file? that's the only thing I can think of if it's telling you to insert a higher TOC disc.
Try a different game, an original and get the iso to the hard disc and then burn the mds file at 4x using DVD Decrypter in iso write mode.
Also, what are your computer specs? and are you trying to do anything else whilst you are burning? like do you have the internet on or doing anything else?

Shadow of Colossus, Tekken 5, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, Digimon World 4 (:P), King Kong, We Love Katamari, Resident Evil 4. All they all ranged from 2GB to a full 4.36 GB.
AND YES, it is asking me to insert a bigger TOC disc. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? And how exactly do I do that procedure? It only says to insert a bigger TOC disc when I open the tray top, otherwise it doesn't tell me to.
Comp specs are: Windows XP SP1, 2.4 Ghz, 768 MB ram, I leave the computer alone when they are burning. I have mIRC, Sygate firewall, uTorrent seeding and a NetMeter. All very small memory footprints except for the firewall which is about 10 MB. Only using 150 MB total. I have no problems burning anything else whatsoever with these same exact programs open so I don't really think it's the cause of the problem.
Can you tell me the steps on how exactly to rip a game? Using DVD Decrypter remember that.

Well, if it's telling you to insert a bigger TOC disc, it usually only tells you to do this if you're using special boot, the square button! you should be pressing the X button to load the backup disc.
It can't hurt to update to SP2 either... and turn off the internet etc before burning... it could be why your media had such a poor quality score for such good media.
Try those things, and I'll have a bit more of a think about your problem.. get back to me if you find out anything more. good luck :)

I'm pressing X button to load the game. Can you tell me how to rip a game in ISO mode with DVD Decrypter? Do I just load it and hit decrypt? I will try this in combination with updating SP2 and turning off internet and everything else so I don't waste DVD s.
