I've used Apollo iPod Video converter to convert an AVI file into mp4 format. The conversion went fine, but I can't drag and drop the file to the iPod. The file appears in the Video section in iTunes and is viewable in the library. No matter what, the video won't sync to my iPod. Due to the name of the software I'm using, I'm guessing it's not a format issue. When I try to drag the file (from the library or from directly windows), it doesn't let me drop it onto the iPod. The movie info according to quicktime is
Confused now. After right-clicking the file and selecting 'convert selection for ipod', it now syncs. What's the point of the conversion software if you have to do this? Presumably I could have used iTunes to begin with? Please explain if I'm doing something stupid.
iTunes won't convert movie files for you. Under prefrences, under iPod, under Video, have you checked for it to automatically update videos? As that could be a factor. I don't believe you can just drag files onto the iPod either. And you're saying that when you did that conversion thing [it'd be good if you explained what you did there just a tiny bit more] it would sync with your iPod just fine?
Thanks for the reply. Under preferences - iPod - Video, I have automatically update all videos selected. I have downloaded a PDF file from Apple's site titled "Fifth_Gen_iPod_Features_Guide.pdf" In it, it says "To add a video to iPod: In iTunes, click Library and drag the video to the iPod icon in the Source list.". A few other methods are also listed. When I try to do that with a converted video, I just get a no-entry icon. Regarding the conversion, what I initially did was use Apollo video converter to convert an AVI file to MP4 format. The movie info for that is shown above. I suppose it mustn't have liked the format of my original file, but I'm surprised a tool called ipod video converter would allow you to create a file that isn't compatible with the unit.
Well iTunes doesn't convert video files. So I'm not sure what happened there, and I'm not familiar with that video converter. Did it take time to convert the file or did you just click it and it said done almost instantly?
You may also want to try a different video converter such as Videora iPod converter, it's free and many have found it works well so you may want to give it a shot.
Thanks, I'm trying Videora now as it happens, and that seems to work much better. An earlier test file sync'd ok. I'm just trying some settings I found for transferring widescreen files in their original ratio, my first effort was a little stretched.
There's also conversion software called CuCuSoft iPod video converter. It works fine. Open iTunes, go to add folder to library under file and choose the cucusoft folder hit ok then connect your iPod for update.
