Hi I am having a few problems when updating my ipod in itunes, I have 9862 songs in itunes and 9847 songs on my ipod, where are the missing songs. I am using itunes 6.0.2.23 & widows home xp SP2 and have a 4gen 60Gb colour/photo ipod.

I have been unable to locate or find out which songs are missing, cant find any song with the tell tail ! next to them. Short of clicking on each of the 9862 songs has anyone any solutions?

Hi nitrouse3

most are CD rips with itunes, some are mp3's which were added to itunes with the "add folder option" which I think adds them to my itunes music folders?

Don't think that I have any files on my pc which are not in itunes, just not all on my ipod.

Most likely to be podcasts. Have you subscribed to/downloaded any? You have to elect to update those seperately from your music..

I'm pretty sure but not totally sure that Photo's will count towards your total 'items' number under your Library. So you may want to check that out.

nitrous3 - that won't matter, because he hasn't said anything about activating the "only update checked songs"

Hi I can confirm my ipod updates all checked songs, all my library files are checked. even did the following to check the validity of the files:-
1. select your iTunes library as source
2. select all tracks (do this by clicking the first track, then scroll down to the last track, hold the "shift" key down and select the last track. Now all tracks should be highlighted.)
3. Now do get info. The key short cut is "Ctrl-i" you may get a window asking if you really want to do this, click yes.
4. in the get info window find the box marked BPM (this stands for Beats per Minute) and type in 99, and click OK.
5. iTunes will now go through the library gathering information about your tracks, and if you have a large library it will take a few minutes.
6. When this is finished press "Ctrl-j" this will open another window called display properties, Put a check in the box marked "Beats per Minute" and click OK.
7. in your display now there should be a BPM column. Click on it so that the tracks in your library are all sorted by BPM. Since the missing tracks will have no information here they should all come together.
8. If this has worked all the tracks with the exclamation points should be grouped together. Now you can select them (click the first track, scroll down to the end of the selection, hold the shift key down and click the last track) and hit the delete key.

many thanks

Geoff

I have had a similar problem with my iPod video. I added about 12 ripped albums (150 songs) to the iTunes library, and no matter what I tried, iTunes would not upload the new albums to the iPod... it just said that all updates were complete.

I ended up restoring the iPod to zero condition, then reloading everything to the iPod. That worked, and since then I have not had trouble with any other updates.

I can only guess that some sort of update flag gets set and there is a bug somewhere, somehow, that under the right conditions, it gets set when it is not supposed to be set.
