I recently bought an Ipod I have alot of songs on it and they remain on my pc's hard drive. I tried deleteing them for my pc and my Itunes told me something like that my songs in my libary dont exists so i deleted my libray. I then hooked up my Ipod and it wiped out my songs off my ipod as well I was wondering is to there a way to keep my songs on my ipod and get rid of the ones on my pc to free up room

It may have something to do with Auto Sync. When Auto Sync is turned on iTunes automatically updates your iPod with what's in your iTunes library. So deleting all the songs from your library will have the same effect as deleting stuff off your iPod.

Delete them out of itunes. Just copy and past you libary into a regular folder then delete it. That sould work.

serp, not only is your suggestion rather hazy and unclear, but it is very unlikely to work..

Just find the file on your harddrive (not in itunes) and delete it there.

But then there will be no root file, thus losing you all of your songs. And then when you sync, you'll lose them from your iPod, too.

I use two computers with my ipod. (me and my bro both have ipods so we help eachother out with movies/songs) My ipod works after being plug into my computer which has no record of half my stuff on there. I dont get why you wont be able just to delete them.

I think your problem is that you have your ipod to "sinc" with whatever is in the library. This means if you delete the library, it will AUTOMATICALLY delete the songs from your ipod. There's an easy way to remedy this, so you can do what you want manually. I've copy/pasted this from the apple website. I'll include the link below.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Disable Auto Update First (iPods with a Display Only)
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/tunes/3/

If you have an iPod with a display and want manual control of your music (this doesn't apply to iPod shuffle users), first make sure that iTunes isn't set to automatically update songs whenever you connect your iPod. (You originally set this option when you first installed your iPod software.) If you need to change this status, do this first:

Open iTunes preferences. Mac users: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences. Windows users: On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
In the resulting dialog, click the iPod tab, then click the Music tab in the iPod pane.
Select the "Manually manage songs and playlists" radio button.
Click the Podcasts tab in the iPod pane (not the main Podcasts tab).
Select the "Do not update Podcasts" radio button if you want to manually do the deed.
Click OK.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

So, if you follow these instructions you should be able to add songs to your ipod from your library. Then you can delete your library for space-sake without deleting them from your ipod. Hope this helps. If someone can, please help me with my questions in my thread.
thanks.
