Is there any possiblity it's just being reported wrong? I haven't been using any 3d apps in the last few days? it's not overclocked, or anything...

That is the ambient temp as on your Nvida, ur motherboard tmeps look high as well, how many fans have u got and what specs machine have u got, maybe a cooling issue, if u have got lots of stuff and no fans.

Yeah, but it's better than 154, right? I have one fan on the CPU, and that's it...I built the PC nearly 4 years ago, and have been gradually upgrading it. Started off with P4 1.6ghz, gf4ti4200, 512mb ram... it's now, 2 gb ram and 6800gt...n a few new hd's n dvd writers...

forgot to mention...PSU is about 2 weeks old!! New Antec 430watt

You don't think my graphics card's gonna die anytime soon, do you?

Also, i'm not sure where to mount any new fans, if i get any. There aren't any spare, like, slots or anything on the case?

Yeah, i'll check the fan in a sec.

The case is indeed nearly 4 years (i bought it in October of 2002). The graphics card i bought 2 weeks ago as well, so i really don't want that to go anytime soon!!

Will check the fan now...

Well, i just opened the pc up, and the graphics card fan does seem to be working alright. Spinning real fast n everything.

I seem to have overlooked the 2 slots where something fan sized could fit on the case as well!

You mentioned an 'in' and an 'out' fan as well?? I take it these both go on the inside of the case...

Also, about that fan you just displayed a pic of...how does that fit on? Does it go on top of the graphics card fan? Where do you screw it onto?

Thanks, blighter

Yea both inside 1 pulling air in and 1 taking air out lol, that fan takes up "1 pci slot" so just slots n screws in.

I assume that graphics card fan needs the PCI slot adjacent to the AGP slot?

Do you think that graphics card could hold on for another two weeks? The weird thing is, the 154 doesn't fluctuate at all...I just played Doom 3 for 5 minutes and it didn't even change... The ambient temperature does tho.

Cheers, Blighter

P.S Where can i get one of those graphics card fans?

i think its just a rouge reading, and if u want to replace it but a new graphics card fan, the product i said will help the fan out but not replace it!, and definatly buy a couple of fans asap, i think the graphics card fan is fine, although that is not an oppatuiniy to sue my sorry ass if it all goes wrong lol. Good luck and goodnight, i am retiring to get some sleep.

Just purchased one of those PCI fans, and also two 80mm fans. Just realised though...how do i set it up so that one sucks air in and the other sucks air out...do i install one the other way around or something?

Also...both my fan slots are adjacent to each other just beneath my PSU. Is this alright? Or would you recommend installing one fan there and the other elsewhere?

sorry been to work all day, neva a good start to a monday morning lol, right i would install 1 fan there and the other one i dealy would want to be at the front of the case pulling air in, if this is not possible then it should be installed on the side case, there is no point putting it just under the otherone, cuz as one sucks in the other blows all the sucked in air out so it would be like not having any fans or nearly. Hope all this helps mate.

Well, i've bought an Akasa System Exhaust Blower (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Akasa.html - SY-000-GE) and 2 Akasa AK-182-L2B Ultra Quiet 80mm Fans (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Akasa_Fan... - FG-023-AK).

I've installed them like you said - one just below the PSU sucking out, and one at the bottom of the front of the PC blowing in...

I've currently got the PC open on my lap as i type, and the fans are working fine...but it doesn't seem to be making it much cooler or anything. The PC doesn't really feel that hot either. My ambient reading now is around 34/36 mark, but my graphics card core is still 154 apparently? Should it feel hot if i touch it while it's running (because it doesn't)? The hottest area of the PC seems to be the exhaust bit of the PSU (where it pumps air out the back), but i'd only say it's at about 40 degrees (rough estimate). I'm beginning to think it's just a false alarm, because while the ambient temperature fluctuates if i stare at it for 5 minutes, i've never ever seen the 154 change! Also, i would have thought i'd see artifacts all over the screen if it was that hot, but there's nothing...I played Doom 3 for 5 minutes yesterday and it ran flawlessly...

What do we think? Is it being reported wrong, or do I need more fans?

Cheers, Blighter

everything in that systems looking a little toasty... your harddrive are running at like 50 degrees... thats never good... mine tend to run at just 30 - 35 degrees

If the heatsink doesnt feel hot then its likely that it hasnt been fitted properly... which would also explain the abnormally high temperatures.

remove the heatsink and fan from the graphics card clean away any old thermal paste, apply some new thermal paste (only a thin layer just enough to cover the gpu) and put the heatsink back on... if im right you will see a significant drop in temerature

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)

I should probably mention that the PC had been on for about 5 days straight when i took those previous readings! These are the ones i've just got :

Also, i can't actually touch the heatsink on my graphics card because it's got thise huge xfx thing covering it. Where can i get thermal paste?

Another question : What would the performance leap be like in Doom 3 etc, if i upgraded my motherboard from AGP4x to AGP8x?

Cheers,

Blighter
