I'm starting to wonder if you're not having problems besides Nero. 6.6.0.18 was more stable than the 6.6.1.4 release. I haven't checked to see if there's a newer release.

Is it possible that the update of Nero 7 does not come with the plugins?
Or maybe a conflict with the FFDShow codec pack I have installed?
I am reaching here, but I read in another forum that after this fellow (who is having the exact same problem as I) uninstalled FFDShow, that Nero started working again...
A longshot, I know, but possible?

JXP:
I don't think it's anything you have or haven't or un-installed. I don't have the FFDShow codecs, but I too thought it had something to do with Codecs. So I twiddled around with my Divx/Xvid codecs -- and at some point every time I right-clicked on an AVI my explorer/system crashed. Once I settled that little irritant, I fired up Nero again hoping it would solve the problem but -- alas -- I'm still dead in the water. It's possible that the FFDSHow codec helped on some level, but this problem seems to be pretty universal on a bunch of our systems, no matter which codecs we have or haven't installed. Sounds to me like we're waiting for the next version and hoping they manage to get it right so we don't need to revert to Nero6, which is becoming an increasingly attractive option for me.
Just my $0.02.

Don't worry, Nero 6 has it's problems as well. 6 got an update about the same time 7 got 7.0.5.4. Users of both 6 and 7 were reverting to their older versions. On my system, I used the Nero Clean tools just in case when I tried the 7.0.5.4. I skipped 7.0.5.4 all together after a couple of initial tries. So far 7.0.8.2 is working properly.
As for codecs, my system is loaded down with them. I have the AVI codecs as well as the ones for DVD and CD; no FFDSHOW. Add to that programs using ASPI, such as Nero, and others that use Patin Couffin. Then there's all the Microsoft running on SPTI. So, not only different codecs, but different interfaces, and the Nero is working well along with the rest of the system. As most systems occasionally have interference problems with things we add to them, it's difficult diagnosing problems with another person's machine. I've not heard of the widespread problems with 7.0.8.2 that was had with the previous version. That's why I suspect something with the particualar systems that are having problems.

The main problem I noticed before you got the error reading is that the files are too large to write to a 4.7 disc.
[01:27:38] ExpressUI Total space used: 8.64 out of 4.38 GB
[01:27:38] ExpressUI Space used for menus: 6.9 out of 1024.0 MB
[01:27:38] ExpressUI Your project currently requires more disc space than available on the selected destination device.
Try saving your project to the HD and using an encoder to fit the content to the target size. That's a hefty sized file, so good luck. RB encodes to DL, so that would be an option, if you have a DL burner. Recode in the Nero suite is a good transcoder, so it's worth a try. I've not tried processing a file that large with it in a while.

Brobear, that is what I have been doing.
I have been outputting the DVD I want to make to the HD, then rebuilding using DVD-RB/CCE SP Trial.
It worked great the first time...
However, I believe that the Nero plugins were not installing properly. I uninstalled FFDShow, and did a clean uninstall of Nero. Now it acts as if it will transcode the files. It is doing its thing now, so when I get home I will check to see if the menu buttons work and that there is no A/V out of sync. (I had BOTH of those problems)
I'll give an update tomorrow, but (*crossing fingers*) I hope I've got it licked!

I was just going by the log posted. From that one, the software appeared to be set to burn the output to a 4.7 disk. That was the segment I quoted. From that, I'd suggest reviewing the settings if not already done.

No worries BroBear!!
You have helped tremendously. For the record, you were not wrong!
That is what it said!! It was just misleading. I had set the output to the Hardrive.

A bit strange. Seems the program wasn't getting any of your input correctly. Guess whatever messed up your installation did a real number on it. As I may have mentioned, I use the same software without a problem, but systems do vary.

I'll keep you posted. Hopefully the fresh install will do the complete job no problem. It seems to be working...
I wonder if maybe I just got a corrupt file in my download. It has never happened to me before, but it is possible I guess.

Like brobear said, you are not saving the files to HDD. the resulting file is too large for a SL DVD!
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

Thank you for sharing information regarding Nero.
I have been using 6.6 Ultra, 6.6.0.12 and then upgraded to the 6.6.0.18 version as I was given the upgrade free by Nero. They wouldn't kick down 7. I did a clean install on both occasions. I am running a P4 HT processor with 1GB of RAM, and samsung dual layer burner. Latest Firmware. Processor has no problem handling. I turn off virus software and keep disc degraged. I have been using the software for seven months.
The information has been helpful in deciding to upgrade.
The problems I have encountered also are the chapter marks and freezing when editing video projects. I have found that after I modify a soundtrack, I need to redo the chapters for it to play corectly in preview mode. When adding soundtrack near the end of projects it won't pick up and play the last track when video portion ends. After adding the new soundtrack and going to preview menu, it won't play soundtrack when selecting various chapters from preview menus, unless, I go through and edit the project adding new chapters. Definitely buggy in that area. I haven't tried working with animated menus yet, but would be interested on tips to play with this feature.
Overall, I like the software and am also considering trying the open source version that runs with linux. It has been an invaluable tool in the development of personal home media library conversion to computer base.
The other features work fine. I did have a couple of problems with a few avi's, but issue resolved itself, may have been bad files.
It would be nice to have stable version of 7.
Doe's anybody have any professional video editing experience to recommend alternative software for video editing? What does Spielberg use <grin>.
Regards
Surfman

http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/xtream.html Check out Xtream from Cinema Craft for about $38,000.
As for Nero and audio, it appears they've been working on it. Some of the history text noted updates on audio issues with editing. You may want to check it out to see what was actually said. I don't have the link, but you can find the info on the Nero website, if you're interested enough to hunt it down.

This is in fact not the case. I was in fact burning to my hardrive. I did not even have a disc in my burner! I clicked "Write to hard disk folder." The process failed almost immediately, not during the burning process. It did not even get to the transcoding phase!
I got this error "Unable to prepare data for recording. Prepare session failed. Transcoding of videos failed." I googled it, and came across this...

I uninstalled FFDShow and after a Nero 7 reinstall, it works perfectly doing the exact same thing I did before. My project went through beautifully, and I want to thank everyone for their invaluable support.

Glad to see you got it going. But among other things, the interference must have messed with Nero's settings, because the log didn't reflect your input. That's what I was referring to as being strange.

You are correct at that. The log did not reflect it, but Nero was at that point pretty screwed on my PC. You have helped a lot...
For that I SALUTE YOU!

I had some massive problems with the 7.0.8.2 installer both from upgrading through 7.0.5.4's product setup and using the offline installer. It would get to the final steps of installation and then give me an error this: 'a fatal error has occurred please reinstall nero'
heres a list of the things i tried ti fix the problem and failed:
repeat these things DO NOT WORK
1.add/remove programs
got the same error
2.system restore
some things worked others didn't
3.deleting all files and removing every registry key with the word Nero or ahead in it
couldn't fond the uninstall to force it out
4. installing 6 or earlier 7 after regediting the version number
didn't work
5. using nero's specific Nero 7 clean tool
error: it found an unsuported version and to prevent damage would close
6. Nero's general clean tool
said it was successful but all it did was remove the shortcut from the desktop
and after 3 very long days of searching I found a link to a Nero general clean tool on softpedia.com and a forum message that said that the one on nero's site didn't work that the person had the dame error that I had and that this one did it, and that it was the same thing only it worked.
I downloaded the tool, ran it then removed Nero from add/remove programs and it actually went away and i was able to frsh install 7.0.5.4
so if you're having the same problem download this tool http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Nero-Clean-Tool-Bundle-Down...
NOT THE ONE ON NERO'S SITE THEY MAY LOOK THE SAME BUT THE ONE DIRECTLY FROM Nero IS JUNK
