oh dont feel suicidal over those 35 pi errors, YOU GOT A QUALITY SCORE OF 97% i mean they must be excellent discs no doubt probably verbatim, iv just recieved a huge shocker - iv just tested them and my ritek g05 scored 59% - holy shit and i thought they were good, well iv only got 17 of them left, after that im switchin to verbatims

Remember quality scores are just a benchmark nothing more. A 99 quality score doesn't ensure a flawless backup, like a 59 doesn't ensure a terrible one. I scanned a backup of Soul Reaver 2 the other day and it scanned out to a 79 on RitekG05. It played fine in my PS2, and the only skipping I noticed was after I beat the game and messed around with the extras. I scan my backups obsessively, but that's mainly for reference. That way if something dies on me down the road, I can go back to the initial scan and determine when the problems occured.

well fifa 06 and pro evo work fine with the go5's ( they are the only disks i have burnt lol) although i do have problems with a shadow of the colosus. any way thats a different story, unless i incur problems with those games later on. so how do i find out how good each individual disc really is. do i have to look at the pi failures and all of that stuff and what actually are pi failures.
hope you can help me mate

93. Q. How can I tell if my burned disc is of good quality?
A. Well besides you using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's, you can use a program called Nero CD/DVD Speed to measure the quality of your discs. It measures POF, PIF and gives your disc a quality score based largely on it's prerecorded Media ID. In my experience that's the key component to getting a good quality score. A crap manufacturer like CMC Mag won't maintain a great quality score over time, even if you follow all the advice given on AD for successful burning. You don't need to know exactly what PIF's and POF's are, just know the more of them, the more likely your disc will skip, lag, freeze, or not boot at all. When people say CMC Mag or Memorex media is crap, that info is based largely on many Nero CD/DVD Speed scans by burn enthusiasts on CMC Mag media that have yielded terrible quality scores. Try it yourself and see. You can find Nero CD/DVD Speed here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html Plextor DVD Burners aren't compatible with Nero CD/DVD Speed. For their DVD Burners you need to use a program called Plextools, which does about the same thing as Nero CD/DVD Speed minus the quality score. You can find Plextools here: http://www.plextools.com/download/download.asp DVDInfoPro is a popular alternative to CD/DVD Speed: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ K-probe is a scanner specifically for Liteon Burners: http://www.cdrlabs.com/kprobe/

My Sony DVD-r's 08D1 all work,anyone know what's wrong???

Does your burner support 16x media? Check the manufacturers site or around Google for different media compatibility with your drive.

yes,it does,it's the benq 1620 bulk version, logo isn't on front lid, but here's the strange part,i just saw that it will burn with Nero at 4x where it wouldn't burn with DVD Decrypter at 2,4x although it states that that speed is supported, which i have always burned my sony's at(2,4x),so now i've tried burning with DVD Decrypter at 4x and it burns as well,so it's a problem with the burn speed,4x... yes and 2,4x...no
Anyone know why?

Dunno, I guess try to exchange your 16x Verbs for 4x or 8x ones. I've seen very mixed results with PS2 backups on the 16x Verbs lately. In general I don't recommend them for PS2 backups. That's just my opinion based on my recent encounters here on AD.

are you sure you have updated your drive with the correct firmware,
if you downloaded the wrong one then it could completely destroy your drive let alone stop burning discs that once did use to burn.

that's the prog i think,so now i have some questions,
my drive is benq 1620 bulk(benq not on front lid) with G7V9 firmware.
1) is it normal that when i burn a game at 4,0x,after a while the burn speed goes down to 3,3x for a couple of seconds and then back up to 4,0x? This happens more then once in a burn.
2)is it better to crossflash my firmware? Would i benefit from using the B7W9 firmware instead of mine?
3)How do i do it? Just open the Windows DW Flash prog and then load in the B7W9 firmware and flash it?It's that simple?or do i have to reboot and start in safe mode??All help would be appreciated.
I checked that forum by the way...
Thx a lot guys if you could help me out here!

1. Yes that's normal. My burner will dip to 2.8, up to 3.6, up to 4.0, no matter what program I use. I think that's normal, maybe that's SolidBurn in action.
2. I don't know what the advantages of crossflashing would be in your case. Check out the features of your current firmware vs. the features of the firmware you want to crossflash with.
3. I'm not real sure how to do it. I used Quikee's BenQ Flasher app to crossflash mine, I found instuctions for it on CD-Freaks, that's a good place start. If you can't find it there, search Google. Google is the magic key to find just about anything.

I'm not 100% sure what a cvt file is, other than older firmware upgrades were cvt files. Nowadays, most firmware upgrades are exe files. What's the difference and why have they changed? I have no idea. Honestly, you'd probably just be better off getting some quality 4x or 8x media. Crossflashing is risky, and you seem to have a lot of uncertainty about it. I was about 80% sure I wouldn't fry my burner when I crossflashed. I found people on CD Freaks who had done exactly the same procedure and verified it could be done and wouldn't destroy my burner if successful. You may be better off getting a BenQ DW 1650 or quality 4x or 8x media.

ok,so i crossflashed it,haven't burned anything yet.
This was my last burn before crossflashing.
Is this considered a good burn? See how PI is measured this time, this new firmware allows it.
Also,in cd dvd speed,i can now choose speeds with CLV,what is that? And should i choose that over regular 4x?

Your burner did support PI/PO scanning Jurgen, so crossflashing wasn't necessary. You can't really tell from one disc if your burn quality is better or not. Those are both excellent scans. Nothing in the 90's should give you any playback problems. Verbatim is excellent media. If I didn't love Taiyo Yuden so much, that's what I'd use. The BenQ 1620 is a good drive, much like the 1640 and 1650. Your burn quality is excellent and it should remain that way. I take it the new firmware likes the 16x Verb's, as the MCC 03 media code refers to 16x DVD-R's, I believe.
