usually it's just a exe file you run and it installs if for you (well at least that's how mine was) as far as backing up the firmware you already have.. That's the problem you can't really back it up. Most you can do is d/l the firmware you already have... Which DVD Decrypter should tell you what firmware you have..

Yep if that's what is instructed

best thing about bitsetting / Booktyping is compatibility.. your PS2 games will run better your backup DVD's will work in pretty much every DVD player.. It's really cool!

hello,

you need to ask yourself a couple of questions first, before carrying on

what matrix infinity chip is it?

are you sure its not a modbo clone (copy)

have you flashed the firmware http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=news

remember!!!!!,if you flash the firmware on the chip, and you have a modbo copy,it will destroy it

have you had the laser fix?

i wouldnt have advised you to use hacked firmware, but as its working, then all is good, however, you need to use DVD-R disk's,i find they are more easily read by the ps2

btw,do not attempt to flash the chip, without telling me first,as i wont be responsible for breaking your ps2

hopes this helps

Do not attempt to flash your chip if you aren't sure it's legit. Do not change the settings either. Changing the settings or attempting to flash the chip will fry it if it's a clone. This is what a legit Matrix Infinity looks like:

The color of the dot may vary. It could be orange, green, or blue. Aside from that the chip will be identical to this pic. The only way to find out what chip you have is to open up your PS2 and check or contact the installer. What version firmware does in say under Matrix when you turn on your PS2? Clones usually run off MI firmware 1.40 or 1.54. If it's either of those, there's a good chance it's a clone. The most current MI firmware is v 1.82.

These Sites will help with reviews on Media and Media codes
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php

ok one thing I've learned is if the media is 2.4x 4x etc etc don't burn at 2.4x for some reasons some burners don't like 2.4x if it's 2x 4x etc etc it's ok to burn at 2x it's the .4 that messes things up.. i've also found that on some games if you burn at 2x it skips if you burn at 4x it works fine.. I'm not a modchip user I use Swapmagic Fliptop and a HD with HDloader...

funny thing is I bought some Maxells once that were 2.4x - 8x and there was even a warning on the label about burning at 2.4x so I don't even bother burning at 2.4x if that's the slowest speed. I'll burn at 4x 1st...

if your chips firmware is currently 1.38 and the latest is 1.82 then it'd possibly the firmware but I'll let someone with chip experience get into that with ya..

Yes Verb's are good, but the 16x Verb's have been known to cause people some issues with PS2 backups, I recommend trying some 4x or 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

106. Q. Where can I find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji and Sony have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no guarantee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. The exception is that Sony MIJ 8x DVD+R's will always code out as Yuden000T02. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

I'd be wary of flashing the chip. If it came preflashed with MI firmware 1.36, I'd be a little suspicious. That's ancient firmware. Clone chips run off ancient MI firmware, so that's a red flag right off. Those are definitely 8x Verb's, I thought anything with the MCC-003-000 media code was 16x media? I could be wrong.
