i saw here are lots of guide of how to convert dvd to ipod, i just like to share my experience, i got my 5th video ipod last month, i've searched in different forums and google and have tried several differenct programs, like pq, imtoo, xlisoft, cucusoft etc, for those who are looking for an easy to use solution and willing to spend some money, i'd like to recommend you use cucusoft DVD to ipod video converter suite,it can not only rip dvd to ipod but also can convert almost all kinds of video files in your hard disc, it's an all-in-one solution, it works perfect for me.From experience, only cucusoft can convert all my dvds (around 60), some others have trouble to recongize my dvds.i get it from http://www.allforvideo.com/download/iPodSuit_r56510.exe

Thanks for forwarding your suggestion, Cucusoft is not the one I would particularly recommend, but 'tis a great application all the same.

My recommendation to the great newbies of this forum would be PQDVD. It will rip your DVD's directly into iPod compatible .mp4, and will handle nearly all video types, including Windows Media Centre T.V shows (dvr-ms), and I have yet to come accross another program that allows me to do so sucessfully.

Other reasons I would suggest you use PQ, are that it is extremely versatile - you can dabble with nearly all off the settings to create the video output to your exact needs. It allows you to crop your videos & DVD's -- i.e if your input file is 16:9, you can compromise on a segment of the video on each side and transcode it as 4:3, so the output video covers the whole of your iPod's screen.

On a last note, I recommend anyone pondering which program to use should definetely try before they buy. These applications tend to be a a little tempermental, and thus far, there isn't a program that suits everybody & works for everyone -- so choose wisely.

I like Cucusoft, as this is the one that I use, but PQ DVD seems like you get much more for your money.

Thanks Lethal for your great comments, i only tried cucusoft because it is cheaper than PQDVD but they seems have the same functionality, cucusoft can convert dvd to ipod format one step as well. However, i agree with you try before you buy the one suitable for yourself

Hmm, if you have never actually tried PQ, I do suggest you give it a go. You don't have to purchase it or anything, but the free trial gives you 5 minutes conversion time. So maybe you could transcode a music video just to sample the product. If you want to try it, click on this link..
