Yes that is true!!! But you also have to look when you buy a 1GB memory card you only have 800MB
~Domreis
They are able to say it has 30GB because it dose but they use part of those 30GB for the op. system!
Answer your question?

Quote: Well the problem with the 60GB is that the HD has to work harder=battery loss and i gets a little bulcky... (Not much but is is wider than the 30GB!
That's garbage. I actually own a 60gb iPod, and never gets 'a little buckly'. Also, the battery lasts longer on the 60gb iPod..
30GB: Up to 14 hours of music playback; up to 3 hours of slideshows with music; up to 2 hours of video playback
60GB: Up to 20 hours of music playback; up to 4 hours of slideshows with music; up to 3 hours of video playback

Got this from the apple website - its about your memory quabble
Quote: In iPod's About menu (see note 1), the hard disk size is reported as slightly less than the technical specifications for the iPod. The same is true if you connect iPod to your computer in disk mode and from the File menu, choose Get Info (or Show Info for early versions of Mac OS X).
Why the difference? Most hard disk manufacturers measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 million bytes (1000 * 1000). A 5 GB hard disk, therefore, is one that holds 5 billion bytes. Computers, including the Macintosh and iPod, measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 048 576 bytes (1024 * 1024). The difference in these two calculations is what causes the drive to appear as 4.6 GB on a computer, but actually be a 5 billion byte hard disk.
So it doesnt take 3GB for the iPod to run, its just because the iPod memory is read differentely by your PC

I'm pretty sure it's the same situation with the memory differences there. I believe the OS of the iPod is something like 500MB

I would put a sticker. But it gets all sticky after you take it out.
I own ipod video 30g was going to get 60g since it's double the memory and longer battiey life. but it's about 1cm thicker. LOL No that wasn't it. It was that extra $100. I own few different MP3 Like CREATIVE and IRIVER,SAMSUNG.
