I want to ask this question before I spend more time coding this little utility. I've been working on a entire iPod music -> computer utility for a little while now, because I need to help a friend get all his thousands of songs back. I see nothing on the internet that isn't freeware, just trialware, payware, or crippleware.

If there is enough demand, I'll make it public.

It'll probably be about < 2MB, not interact with iTunes database on the iPod, just read the files and tags directly, and copy the mp3s in a customized form (like %artist%\%album%\%track% - %title%.mp3).

It's a nice idea, and I reckon you should go ahead with it.. it's great to see such enthusiasm. However, there are other programs that allow you to do a similar job, you may want to asses these before coding your new utility;

ephpod - http://www.ephpod.com/
yamipod - http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
sharepod - http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=Sh...

are the most popular.

ah the sharepod looks beautiful for what I wanted to do in the future, but I'm gonna go ahead and make this quick copier. I hate having to select all songs or some BS, when i just need a from, to, and go button.

Besides, a Delphi coded iPod utility would be interesting.

That's fantastic news. I'm always happy to listen to people with new ideas/ambitions! Be sure to give me the "heads-up" if & when you have completed it :-)

Finished earlier today
Does not interact with the iPod's database, just reads all the mp3s right off of it. Probably good for an emergancy restore on the computer (I hate selecting all files).

(I like to keep track of total download count).

Comments are loved.

Wow, that's a very nice application you have created there - and by far the simplest & tidiest iPod to PC utility that I have ever stumbled accross. You have done a grand job here :-)

I updated it, has better "bad character replacement" functions. (a * can't be in a file name)

I don't mind the repost at a different place, as long as you tell me the location :p The description and stuff should be in the readme. Copies mp3s files without iPod database reading off the iPod to a folder on the computer. Source code is available after a donation. Program is freeware.
