It all depends on what the PS2 likes and what your burner does the best job with. Has nothing at all to do with Swap Magic.

DVD-R 8X are what i would try first.
DVD+R 8X are good if your burner is able to booktype them as DVD-Rom

Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim are two good choices
Maxcell or Sony if they are Made In Japan, do not buy Made In Taiwan!
TDK are not real good. Try the Mitsubishi first, but the TDK may work anyway. Like i said it all depends on your burner and PS2.
Mine hates TDK, but my friends plays them just fine.

@ b1grich: There are much better discs to use!!

You could try Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell or Philips...just to name a few. You will also want to go with 8X DVD's, not 16X.

No, you won't want to use +/-RW's. They will give you more grief than you'll be ready for!! Stick with +/-R's and you'll be good to go.

definitely stay away from rewritable discs for your games. best performance, in general, comes from high quality 8x +R's of a reputable manufacturer, such as taiyo yuden. as said before, these are the basic guidelines to follow.

No, do not buy and Sony or Maxcell that is made in Taiwan.
Only buy them if they are made in Japan.

Media can be a tricky thing at first so here is what i always say.

Spend a little more and get a few 3 or 5 packs of different quality brands like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Philips, Sony, Maxcell
i always say to stary with 8X DVD-R as they are real compatible with most PS2's. This will save you from buying a 25 pack of discs only to find that you can't get them to work. Plus different PS2's play different media's better. And different burners do a better job on different media's.
And example would be me and a friend. I use Philips 8X DVD-R and have for a few years now. He uses TDK. His TDK will play fine on his PS2, but be very glitchy on mine, and the same with my Philips for him. we pretty much had the same set up. both had Sony DRU burners at the time. Both had PS2's with DMS4 Pro mod chips.
once you find a brand that works at least 4 out of 5 times then i would stick with it. Some more popular media brands are know for "outsourcing" their disc to be manufacturer by other companies, like TDK for example. These are hard to be consistent with. I had a 25 pack i bought and just about every copy worked, then had others where they rarely worked.

http://www.supermediastore.com/dvdmedia.html

you can ask them. It is a reputable store but may not ship to UK.
But there has to be some good online stores that do.
here are some i found but can not say how good they are.

http://www.xcopyproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Blank-DVD-Minus-Media.html

there are plenty more. Just do a search and put in "blank media UK"

use this guide to look up the media code if they give you one and see if it is any good.

You want to use quality media. I have definitely spent more money than I should have on bad media, and I was left with quite a large number of coasters. I bought some tayio yuden, and have never had a problem, and not a single Coaster. I bought 50 of them for $25, which is not that bad considering that I had spent $15 on 50 others that did not work, so I ended up having to buy quality media anyways.
So to sum it up: Buy quality media, and you will have a much easier time with making quality backups.

Since it's been a long time for you, I must go ahead and tell you that you have to rebuild Fifa World Cup 2006 in order to successfully boot it with swap magic.
