crowy,

I find the comparison interesting in that there's no CPNS9500-LED listed. Seems like they didn't want anybody to know that the 9500 performs just as well. It's bonus of course, is a lot less weight for the same performance. I'm not about to hang a "dumbell" on my CPU socket and MB. I certainly wouldn't have one here, what with earthquakes and such. I've already seen my Monitor and computer sway 8 to 10 inches during one and I don't want that kind of weight being tossed around like that inside my computer. Not to mention that the Tunig's weight exceeds the side load limits for any MB. It's just too damn heavy!! and that's before you install the fan. Tunig doesn't tell you how much it weighs with the fan installed. Not only that, where the fan is mounted just contributes even more to the lever effect on the MB! The Zalman 9500 is the better cooler all around!!!

Happy Computering,
theonejrs

Wow, that's one thing we don't have, the only tremors we get here are either from my sub, or the force feedback on my steering wheel (which has made my monitor wobble a good inch or two!!!) I assume I'd be safer with the 7000Alcu I've chosen?

Good to see you back.
Hows the computer.

...Not quite sure what you mean there? If the fan was mounted on the top then I would agree. If my computer was swaying 8-10 inches during an earthquake(which fortunately we are'nt succeptible to here)I would be more concerned about the house than my computer LOL!!!
The weight of this thing is a couple of grams short of 1kg.
Yes that is nearly double what the board manufacturers recommend, however withsome strategically placed bracing the weight on the motherboard will be negligible:-)
Here is the tuniq compared to the other top coolers including the 9500.

It just adds to an already heavy cooler. Since it sits in the middle of the fins and is a couple of inches outboard of the mount, it's weight just adds more leverage.

The earthquake thing is a way of life here in So. Cal. Usually they are fairly gentle but occasionally you hear a bang like a car hitting a wall or telephone pole but most times it just gives a rolling motion. The 8 to 10" was my personal worst that I've ever seen. Most houses here are built on concrete slabs so most of the time the house just moves with the slab. It's when the slab tries to move in different directions that the most damage is done. During the Northridge quake, several 2 story apartment buildings became 1 story as the lower floor collapsed and the top floor settled itself on top of it. At first glance you would never know that there was 2 floors to begin with. Had that quake occured a couple of hours sooner, many more people would have been killed as they all would have been in bed when the quake hit!

Have you run a decent length Prime95 run on it yet?

Garfield sucked? That's a shame. I'd still like to see it. I generally don't like buying refurb stuff, no matter how good their people are, stuff that went wrong before probably will do again.

Hehe yeah good point crowy, I'd be more concerned for my wellbeing if there's 10 inch tremors going on! Like your cooling benches eh?
Don't talk to me about earthquakes I've just written about them last week in a Geography exam!
Holy cow, that's a fast 3800!!!

Fihsnerd: as i said before, I avoid refurb stuff, especially GPUs. Do it if you like, but good as ATi and newegg are, I wouldn't trust it.

The sceptre's a much better monitor anyway. I don't mind you getting an X850 refurb, I mind a lot less than you buying, say a 6800, but all I'm saying is just be careful, that's all.

so the higer end cards are what you want me to stay away from.. Refurb wise..

and the pixel pitch on the spectra is better than any of the other 20.1 wide screen monitors that i saw.. or at least in a reasonable price range..

Nono, it doesn't matter which card it is, X300Se or X1900XT-X, I just avoid refurbs personally, but that'll probably be great. I just wouldn't be comfortable spending all that money on something like that.

@theonejrs,
Have'nt run prime on this configuration as yet.I will do that tonight when I go to bed.
@FIHSNERD,Although this memory is performing better than expected,I would love to get some top end stuff. However at the moment the budget won't stretch that far:(

Just been down the road so while I was out thought I would give dual prime 95 a test run.
Just over 1.5 hours(not long I know,)but so far looks promising.I will
let prime run again tonight so should have a result that runs around 12hours in the morning
Any way here's the results so far.
(Watching those 2 cores running @ 100% kind of scares me!!)

Here we are with both cores @100%

Here we are just after I stopped prime.

BTW, ran sandra straight after to check the cpu temp(should have ran it while prime was still running I know but already closed prime:(.Temps were @ 31 degrees both cores.Room temp @ 16 degrees.
If all goes well tonight I will run sandra in the morning while prime is still running and get the temps again.

I'M thinking of upgradeing my memory.Seems most memory runs at 400MGz.DOES faster memery inhance Computer speed? If so would this be a better selection
K-Byte 512MB PC4200 DDR2 DIMM Memory 533MHz $70.00ea
K-Byte 512MB PC5300 DDR2 DIMM Memory 667MHz $75.00ea
PNY Optima 2-Pack 512MB PC2-4200 DDR2 DIMM 533MHz $140.00pr

seems everything is about the same price frm 400MGz to 533
Or does the CPU control mem speed

Fihsnerd: I'm saying I'd rather buy a new card than worry about a refurbished one with a limited warranty.
aabbccdd: Heh yeah, the X800 Pro I have was £289 when I got it, which in literal translation is about $550, even tho you would have been able to get one for less due to VAT and all that.
Sixteen degrees room! Brrr, Sometimes I wonder whether my fridge is even that cold!
Faster memory is either PC4000 (Ludicrously expensive) or DDR2. If you have a late intel board (socket 775) or a very recent AMD board (socket AM2) then you can use DDR2, otherwise you can only get 4000. However, unless you plan a major overclock, 3200 RAM is FINE. You won't see a difference, heck most of us even OC with 3200.
