theonejrs,

I got it! I did'nt notice the +/- deal for changing the fsb speed,I kept hitting enter and waiting for the options to appear(that's the way my Asus/AMD system works) so now I have the cpu speed @220mhz.It's running @43c and cpu @3.3ghz.
I just needed to get a feel for this new bios...it's the same only different.lol! You were correct about this board,I noticed the difference in speed almost immediatly, though a fresh xp install probably helped also.I'll do some more tinkering tomorrow after I install the new memory.

Almost forgot...Thanks for your help!

boxwrench,

Congradulations, I'm glad you figured it out. yuo will have to refresh my memory. What CPU are you using? I've just forgotten. I know the MB but the CPU escapes me (too many around here to keep up with).

Enjoy your new toy!

Oh, ands you are most welcome!

soph hasn't disowned us, he's disowned aD to be at DVDHounds. Maybe you should join!

Boxwrench: Boot profile? Maybe you should do a repair, that might clean it up!

Peanuts: Yes I do know what the conroe is like. Wait until the day after the conroe is launched, then buy an AMD. :D

boxwrench,

I should have asked before. What CPU cooler are you using? I use a Zalman 9500! My 3.0 was running at 3.70 when I shut it down to build this one. Idle temps were 47C with a Max of 58C while encoding, which is fine. With the stock Intel cooler it got as hot as 68C while encoding, and that was at 3.40. With a top notch cooler you should have no problem seeing 3.60 or better on that MB. It's a great MB when used with the 3.0. The temps dropped 10 to 15C over the stock cooler.

theonejrs

theonejrs,

I'm using this beast>http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.... I originally bought this for a fire breathing Barton 3000+ build a while back that has since been shelved.I was going to use the stock heat sink but if your familiar with the Dell dimension 3000 (processor donar) they use a seperate fan and heatsink, besides the it was too big for the tray on the new board.
As for cpu intense activity, the only thing I've done so far were a couple virus scans...to check it's behaivior.I still have a load of software to install and video encoding will be part of this baby's job.
So far the temps. remain consistant from 42-45c in an ambient room temp. of 74F(too lazy to convert). Eventually I do Plan to upgrade the cooling but that will be when my finances allow for it.

fihsnerd: ah too bad mate! That's annoying!
Boxwrench: Lol I have a firebreathing Barton XP3000+!!!!

Some tech guy came to fit the PC I was using at work today with a dedicated graphics board (only an FX5200 PCI but bear in mind this is work not a gamestation!) so it could run dual monitors. I was quite impressed inside. PCI express 16x, Serial ATA, not bad. The CPU cooler looked quite good too.

boxwrench,

The cooler you have should be no problem at all with the heat. Like I say, Intels run hotter than AMDs so don't let 47C Idle and 58C loaded scare you. Mine runs fine after enduring 68C for long periods. Kick that FSB up to 235 or so and set the memory timings (just for now) to 3-4-4-6 and let it rock!!! You will think you bought a new computer!!!
