Who here will use Blu-ray in within next year. I don't even yet use Dual Layer DVD's. Your paying a lot for something that will be cheaper and faster in a few years time. Then you will want to upgrade.

No such thing!

Starting at, and up to, generally implies you won't get the specs they right for that amount of money, or even in alienware's case, for double that amount of money.

i looked through it.it had everything i wanted for that price.you know on customise.it just occured to me sony are well stupid.i would have put the laptops dearer and the pcs much cheaper as you cant build a laptop.

example - sony pc - http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/568_316725.html

top of the range sony vaio laptop - http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/568_316725.html

exclude the price i can get that laptop for £1000

baltekmi,

That's my monitor. The price is great because there's no sales tax at www.tigerdirect.com ! I think there are 2 or 3 States in which they do charge sales tax, so check first. I'm going to get another Sceptre 20.1 for my roomate for Christmas. If you have digital video you are going to see things in an entirely different way. Set the resolution to 1680x1050 and leave it do it's thing. DVDs that are supposed to have 3-D effects are un-real! It beats the hell out of every other monitor I've looked at, and I don't mind dragging a bunch of DVDs in with to test either! They don't want to let me check it out, I'll go someplace that will!

The Sceptre was magnificent as an analog monitor, but as a digital monitor I haven't found the right word yet. Check out Batman Begins or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in widescreen and you won't believe your eyes. It looks so real!

Fabulous Monitor! At $239, it's a steal! I've done quite a bit of business at Tiger Direct and they have always taken care of any problems such as the wrong CPU from what was advertised. I was supposed to get a socket 939 A64 3200+ Clawhammer. What I got was a San Diego. They sent me another one, same thing. Now they are probably going to give me an A64 3700+ w/1MB L2 cache since I've found out that there never was a socket 939 Clawhammer to begin with. I told them I only bought it because of the 1 meg cache. They also messed up on the charges one time. Took me 5 mins to straighten it out and they took off extra $10 to boot! Buy it, you won't regret it!

Happy computering,
theone

Well, that seemed a bit of an off-topic brag to me. It doesn't affect me because my sound system is absurd for what a tiny room I have, but thanks for the input... LOL. Now all I need is a bigger monitor, maybe one of these?

I may have to second guess the helpfulness of such threads...

LOL yeah, that's right, odd isn't it? Since this is a screen though I'll allow it, for the price the specs seem astonishing. 1920x1200, 6ms, 1000:1 contrast and 450cd/m2 brightness, the integrated USB hub and card reader could also prove useful!

I give you full credit for tipping me off! I just went and looked it up after you made the statement. I'm hoping for the 64 3700+! That seems to be the direction they are leaning as it's the lowest AMD 64 offered with the 1 meg cache! I'm just waiting to see what the Customer rep's Supervisor says.

Happy Computering,
theone

That it is, blag and blag some more, Russ! Hats off to you if you can blag that upgrade. a 3700+ is some serious meat really, and stock it outperforms my CPU.

No. It's quite a fast PC, but could be a lot better for the price.
An A64 4000+ is what, £105? two 7600GTs make it £305, two 300GB hard disks make it £425, 2GB of RAM make it £555, add £200 for the OS, peripherals, optical drives, case and PSU (probably quite generous, I doubt they're that much) to make £755, then add £140 for the 19" LCD to make £895, maybe £40 for a mobo, £935. That's it isn't it? Could be home-built for a full £465 less than PC world are charging. That's a lot!

If he does that I'll paypal you £50. No chance, mate. You're supposedly buying "peace of mind" and "not having to do it yourself" with a prebuilt unit, so the guy at PCW won't want to know. Big stores just don't negotiate like that.

I just recently took a little trip to my local PC world. I played dumb and considered the differewnces between the AGP 5700 Ultra and 6600. The guy instantly comes up to me and tells me that they are both about the same(the 5700U being a bit pricier) but the 5700 with a higher 5X00 number would perform marginally better. He thought he was elaborately leading me into buying it. I left with a $20 ethernet card and my future business there.

I don't shop at PC World anymore, needless to say.
