250mm fans? That should be silent as they'd only need to run at like 600rpm. I like the Antec 900 as a concept with the x120mm and 1x200mm, the cooling must be superb, but I personally think it's quite ugly.
Russ: UPS are also masters of messing things up over here too, try getting something collected! No chance. Even Amtrak are better (don't know what they're like in the US, but in the UK they're also pretty poor). Citylink seem to do an OK job. As long as you answer the door within 3 seconds of them ringing the doorbell you'll get your parcel on time. They literally ring it and then go back to the van....
A Thermaltake Mozart? Again nice idea but I dislike the styling. Gosh I'm picky! The Armor's quite nice actually IMO. I may very well get a small fileserver PC to supplement this one and I think I'm going to go with an NZXT Apollo.

Ok, i think they are cool cases, but what are you trying to cool... 10 prescotts? I must be missing the point. as the newer intel conroe chips require less watts, there fore much less cooling. So what is the need for a case that is that efficient, or offers water cooling? That is what was needed for the prescott. The zalman always does the job on air.

I guess you haven't noticed that some of the SLI set ups are about 300 watts! True, they exhaust out the back but the source of the heat from that wattage still resides inside the case. 4 drive Raid setups make a lot of heat as well. That's why you are seeing 750, 850 and 1000 Watt power supplies! All of those Watts translate into heat!

As far as the Zalman doing the job, it doesn't work very well in a dusty climate like where I live in the high desert. It constantly clogs up the fins with dust and is a b17ch to clean, especially if you don't remove it, which is a b17ch in itself. The arctic is much easier as you can remove the fan without any tools and it's straight thru design makes it a much easier job! Even if you feel the need to take it out, which takes all of about 10 seconds, you can easily wash it in the kitchen sink, something you can't do with the Zalman. Zalman, at least on the 9500 should have used the fan to pull the air through it rather than push it, as all the crud collects just in front of the fan and is compressed nicely by the air pressure from the fan. That's why mine was getting too hot! It would have stayed cleaner longer, to boot!

You can used a can of compressed air but they are about $8 here and don't last through very many cleanings!

Yeah I've noticed my 7000 become a bit of a carpet too. Still does a good job of cooling the CPU, but it can't be as good. never noticed this with my old Arctic cooling heatsink...

It's the circular design that causes the problem. All those little "V"s! Very narrow in the middle of the cooler and get wider as you go out. The slat design like on the Arctic is better because there are no restrictions to the airflow. With the 9500 you can see that the dirt gets trapped at the very base of the V and builds up slowly moving outward. The fan being buried inside the fins even makes it worse as it compresses the crud! I've yet to have to clean the Freezer 7! How long have I had that? I can still see through it with no problem!

I'm folding on both cores at 95% in a 22C room and it's running 45/29C, and that's at 3.71!..I'm happy!

As I didn't have anything else to do at the time and because I was bored silly I tested a brand new Zalman 9500LED against the Arctic Freezer 64 Pro in my D-940. The Freezer 64 cooled about 5C better. I had a Freezer 4 for a customer build so I tested it in the Prescott as well and it too was 5C cooler. A lot of work? Yes but it was sort of fun and gave me something constructive to do. The Artic wins the noise battle as well, as it's much quieter. I just stocked up on a couple of Freezer 64 Pros as Newegg has them for $16.99 (USD)! That makes 2 Freezer 64 Pros for less than the price of 1 9500LED. You do the math!

The AM2 is a newer generation that allows the use of DDR2 memory, and has a couple of other subtle differences, not much though.

the 939 has been discontinued now aswell, which leaves little upradability. although am2 offers little or no performance boost if you have a good 939 setup.

for those on a tight budget (just my opinion) 939 is not a bad choice.

I still personally prefer 939 over AM2 due to the lower memory latency, but hey that's me. All the newer stuff is coming out on AM2.

That's why I recomended the Opteron 185 as it's faster than any of the others. AMD is playing a numbers game! If you look at the AM2s you will see that the 5200+ is the same speed as the Opteron 185 and the 5000+ is the same speed as the 4800+ in socket 939. For the difference in price I would buy the combination MB/CPU that I recomended to you. The only thing AMD has faster is the FX-60 at 2.8GHz, and it costs a bunch more. If you are willing to spend a bit more you can get lots of really good motherboards in socket 939/DDR400 and use your old stuff.

Here's an example of an Opteron 170 running at 2.7GHz done on an Asus A8NSLI MB with DDR400 Corsair XMS. The 170 is slower than the 185 by a good bit as there's a lot more headroom in an Opty than a 64x2!

Do I hear a sigh? LOL!!! The 185 is the best choice right now if you go AMD, socket 939 and DDR400. The 185 should get pretty close to Conroe numbers without having to break the bank!

As far as I know the 4800+ runs at 2.6GHz, the same as the 5000+ and the 5200+. The only faster AMD that I know of is the AM2 FX-62 at 2.8GHz. I could be wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time! LOL!!!

That's the point I was trying to make, the Opty 185 in socket 939 is a great buy for it's performance level. According to what I've read on the net, it's at least equal to the FX-60 ($449) in performance and at $100 less ($349), it's a no-brainer for someone wanting a fast AMD to replace a slower single or dual-core CPU! So far I know 2 people that bought at this price. I just hope they are still around at this price when I have the money to spare!

Yes you can get a conroe cheaper but then you have to buy a MB and DDR2 memory, which adds to the overall cost! Right now good quality 939 boards are fairly cheap while the good quality socket 775 boards are on the expensive side.

I almost fell over when I saw the price on the A64 4000+. I just paid $94 and was happy. I don't know if you saw the benches I posted for my roomies but with just a mild 10% OC, it's almost up to FX-57 performance. I wish I still had Sandra 2005 so I could see the difference between it and my ol 3.0 Prescott at 3.94!
