The trouble with AMD is they are working on 65nm as their next chip platform, whilst Intel are now working on 45nm.
Intel already have the muscle in terms of production plant capacity compared to AMD, and with the smaller die size the chips will be cheaper to produce, use less power and OC better.
AMD seem to be just altering what they already have, and unfortunately it just doesn't match up to what Intel are offering.
Intel did fall behind, and for quite some time, but then they did decide to make a totally new chip design and build it from the bottom up.
It took longer but is now paying the rewards.
Not just content with that, they are pushing the limits even further with the next gen chips.
I'm not saying AMD will never overtake Intel again, but unless you are a practiced pearl diver with the metabolism of a hibernating bear, don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.

LOL I'm thinking it would take longer than that. To use an equestrian analogy, Intel has the bit in their teeth and are running with it. The "bit" being innovative design, along with research and development.

I'd expect nothing ground breaking from AMD in the next couple of years, AMD had the lead on intel from the release of the A64 until the Core 2 Duo came out. That lasted about 2, 2 1/2 years. I expect something similar this time around. HT3 may set new records, but I doubt the CPUs will.

I've heard of it being both, along with a few other of the F keys, but it's usually delete. In fact it's often written along the bottom of the screen.

You bumping up that opty a little more?
A little of topic and this is kind of sad but shows how technology has developed. My new laptop with it's little ole 1.66ghz Core2Duo is as fast as my old desktop with a P4 3.4ghz OC'ed to 3.6ghz :)
All these comercials advertising vista make me want to puke. Poor bastards buying a pc with vista OS don't have a clue. Been there, done that. They better plan on buying a whole mess of vista compatable software as well. Very little of my existing software is compatable with vista. I've got a nice litte laptop now that I reformated it with XP.

Delete (del) works for Asus and some other boards, but there are various commands for others. Award and AMI BIOS use the Delete command. Here's a list of some of the commands with different PCs and BIOS.

I still don't see it as fair to compare C2D to AMD until they get a direct competitor out. Yeah, Intel blows AMD away but the new AMD cpus might just get them a lead or at least a decent competitor.
I upgraded to a fairly high-end AM2 mobo for the hopes that it will be included in the AM3 upgrade.... if not... oh well.

Oh well, you're as smart as any of our other seniors, and you really add a lot to the discussion :)
My little old X1800XT will hold me quite well methinks. It's still a top-end card of the current gen and next gen is still a bit too expensive for me. Same with C2D. I have a ready platform, I just don't really need the raw power as my current rigs all handle everything I chuck their way. I'm thinking an e66/6700 though when I decide to upgrade.

Well if R600 ever appears I expect I'll be buying one of those. I'm probably also going to get Vista as a secondary OS to play Directx10 games.

R600 series looks like being out end of March possibly in OEM versions.
With varying cards with DDR3 to DDR4 memory on them, coming out April - May.
X2900 series R600, R610, R630 looks like the three types of cards available.
The sooner they come out the better, as I want to upgrade my 7900GTX but want at least some more choice than what is available, and some pressure on Nvidia with the pricing.
As far as 8800 series cards goes, there are some seriously p*ssed off people who have now realized just how un-ready for Vista the cards are with the present drivers.

yeah, I've heard all about that. ATi being partners with M$ in Vista's development should make their drivers better, and they now have native OpenGL support at last...

Some people may be upset with the 8800s, but I've seen where others have been very pleased. I don't think they were running Vista though. But that's Vista and a lot of people appear to be unhappy with it. I wouldn't mind having a pair of 8800s in SLI, but I'm not going to spend that kind of money. Even one of the 8800s is expensive from my point of view. I'll just stick with a good Radeon 1900 or 1950 for cost efficiency. I'm not a uber gamer yet.

yes 8800's are way too expensive now...u wont really need the res or the power now...since theres hardly any games that supports DX10...its wiser getting 8800's later in the year...hey i wanna become a hardcore/uber gamer...but cant i have no potential...

About as fair as comparing AMD to Intel processors last year. AMD was actually making fun of Intel and saying they couldn't compare to their processors. Now the shoe is on the other foot. What's fair for one is fair for the other. It's a proven fact that the C2D is the best processor for the money. Anybody building a custom AMD is spending more money for less performance. I own both Intel and AMD systems I've built, but for now I'll only build with Intel. With the prices so low I did a processor upgrade on an AMD, but no complete builds since C2D proved itself.

Most people can become proficient if they set in front of the system 25 hours a day and practice for a few years.
The DX10 is backward compatible, so it supports the older games as well. Still the 8800 costs more than I want to pay. But in this arena, waiting for prices to come down also allows for new and better GPUs to come out.

Actually for a more limited budget I still recommend 3800+ X2s, now they're 60% of the cost of the lowest core 2 duo.
