I recently saw many DVD to iPod software guide, but not a honest evaluation about them.

As a super iPod fans, I took three days to try many iPod converters, and then took six good iPod converters for reviewing. Hope this helps! My reviews are honest and straightforward and I don't represent any of the companies whose products I test.

What is the standard of the ideal application to rip DVD video to iPod? There are some points we should take into consideration.
1) Cost/Performance: Everybody wants to gain more with less money.
2) Video Quality: Someone often uses the video iPod to watch movie, so the output video quality should be considered seriously. Top DVD ripper output without any loss in the video and image quality of the exports. To enjoying the high definition video is of great pleasure. Or else, not only your eyes may get hurt; the annoying jumpy and mosaics will also bother you.
3) Audio Quality: iPod is the most popular personal stereo in the world, so the music enjoying is the basic function. Can you stand a piece of engaging music with bad conversion quality? I can't! So never choose the one that make your ears and brain suffered.
4) Speed: Convert DVD often takes time, an hour DVD movie takes around thirty minutes to convert to MPEG-4 movie, if you have multiple DVDs to be converted, a high speed converter would be your best bet, or else, you will waste much time on the conversion, and your computer will be tied to the process.
5) Easy to use: There are still many iPod users knew little about computer, so complicated parameter settings will strain their brain, as a result, a application with simple interface and steps is the acceptable.
6) Personal Demands: For example, someone just wants to convert part of the DVD video, or others want the special output video format like PSP compliant forms and etc.
Concerning the above factors, I've selected six iPod converters for reference.
For more details concerning the parameters please click http://www.afterdawn.com/general/adprices.cfm

1. Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter
Launch the program; you will be impressed by its simple interface. It supports the conversion of DVD to mpeg-1\2\4 \AVI, there're a series of parameters for you to set. Besides, there're other functions, such as luminance filter supported (you won't be afraid that the DVD's background is too dark), auto shutdown the computer when the job finished (you needn't stand by the computer until the job done.), thread priority settings, file-size limit setting (you needn't worry about the output file is too big for your iPod), subtitle selection and so on. Generally speaking, this software is packed of many functions but with highlight.

2. PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter
Its white interface would show you the snow feeling, moreover, the icon has the Mac style, this is quite popular with users. It supports the conversion of DVD/ Tivo to iPod video. The preview Window takes half area of the interface; in addition, you can use the scroll bar to set the aspect ratio and the output size, it's convenience. The computer will be automatically shutdown when the task is finished (you needn't stand by the computer until the job done.). Moreover, DVD buffer setting is included in the program. The last but not the least, there're 6 beforehand options for Crop windows setting which is very useful for who often crops the video.

3. Movkit DVD to iPod Ripper
You will attract by its beautiful interface, it brings you fashionable feeling, which is just my favorite. It supports the most import video formats including: AVI\MPG \MOV \QT \WMV \ASF \DAT \VOB \RMVB \RM \MKV and OGM, which makes it beat other similar products in the market. In addition, it is combined with many useful features, such as CPU type auto identifying whichhelp you get the optimized speed of conversion), DVD buffer setting, decss(Allows you to rip the CSS-protected DVDs), shooting angle adjusting, contrastadjusting and so on.Frankly speaking, I love this iPod converter very much. Not only for its beautiful appearance, but also for its easy of use, user can save his preferred converting mode for the following processing, which is very convenient for who has many DVDs to be converted, as you needn't set the conversion mode each time, you just get it done once and for ever.

4. ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter
Its interface is plain, but you can feel the expert. The layout is clear and in accordance with the habit of users. It supports DVD to AAC\ MP4 \M4A \MP3. Comparing with other iPod converters, it supports three languages (English, Chinese, and Japanese). This is good news for those asia users.

5. Super DVD to iPod Converter
This iPod converter supports DVD to MPEG-4. Have you ever run cross this situation: you just want to convert parts of the DVD, but not many programs do this, are you still searching for it? Now, it?s just like a walk in the park. Super DVD to iPod Converter supports partially conversion. You can set the start point and end point freely. This helps you save much time as well as the capability of the iPod video. Moreover, you will be surprised by its high conversion speed. Some other applications need two steps to convert DVD: first convert DVD to AVI, and then convert AVI to iPod, which waste lots of time. Super DVD to iPod Converter directly converts DVD to iPod video, increasing the efficiency.

6. YASA DVD to iPod Converter
Don?t judge its performance by the simply interface. Try it out, you will be impressed by its expert options including: 14 options for resolution setting, 5 options for frame rate, 15 options for video rate, and etc.As the conversion of DVD to MPEG 1\2\4 \AVI \WMV \DivX \RM \MOV is supported, it may satisfy the user who is strict with the output quality. In addition, you can add text note into the converted file, quite practical for user. The conversion of DVD to PSP video format is also supported. If you have both iPod and PSP, this is just all you need.

Summary
At the end, have you got some idea? Here are some suggestions for your reference.
1) If you care about the Cost/Performance, Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter would be your best bet. It supports so many video formats with an acceptable output quality.
2) Provided you care about the video/ audio quality. YASA DVD to iPod Converter should meet your needs; its professional parameter settings may ensure you an excellence result.
3) If you have multiple DVDs to be converted, or you just want to convert partial of the DVD. Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter or Super DVD to iPod Converter can help you. Its convert speed is amazing; you will save tons of time by this assistant.
4) If you are Chinese or Japanese, ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter would be do you a favor, as there?re three languages supported, you can convert DVDs without any difficulties in language.
5) If you have many DVDs must be converted and cropped. PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter is just the goal; you must be satisfied with its crop windows setting in advance.
6) If you are really a novice in computer. Movkit DVD to iPod Ripper or Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter both worth a try. As the procedure is simple as 1, 2, 3, you just need a few clicks, and wait for the final outputs, it?s optimal for beginner level user indeed.
Above is my three-day research on iPod converter; hope it can give you idea at this issue. I'm not expert on it, just the same with you. I was an iPod user, who wants to share the product experience with others, let's enjoy the merits of our video iPod!

Learn more about those programs goes http://www.convert-soft.com/article/DVD-to-iPod-comparison.html.

Hope it is useful to u! :)

Hi,

You will have to excuse my ingnorance...lol
Is there a way to preserve subtitles when converting DVDs to the IPod format. I've tried with CloneDVD Mobile and Intervideo's DVD to IPod, and these only convert the movie, no subtitles.
Is there a way??

Thanks,

Chuck

I know that Cucusoft and PQ DVD support subtitles, but I'm not quite sure about CloneDVD Mobile. I suggest you purchase either Cucusoft or PQ DVD because they are both great, reliable applications. ;-)

tranquash,

Sorry, I just saw your question.

I agree with jazo1234's reply, ClonDVD can't support subtitles, I advice you use Cucusoft or PQ, they are very good!
