I have a modded ps2 which usually works fine with older games.
I have had trouble with Datawrite dvd-r's. Anyone know why?
With my ps2 i got a few copied games, like fifa 04 ect, but they were on CD's, how on earth do you get a whole dvd onto a cd? does anybody know?
Should i experience problems with Datawrite DVD-R's?

They aren't the best media you can get... have a look here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 for what to media to use

You can't, just burn them onto DVDs, again see the link above for what media to use

You can actually fit a DVD onto CD, they're called 'DVDRips', and require the 'ripping' out of a lot of the DVD game usually.
Often its just a simple case of downsampling movies and/or audio, or removing large movies & re-linking them to the smaller ones that are kept, meaning you see the same movie over & over at certain points in the game, which can be annoying when you cant follow what's going on. Or, in FIFA 04's case, to fit that to CD, most of the chants, kits, stadiums, celebrations etc. were ripped out & relinked to the ones that were kept, so you don't have the full game.
Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!

The reason I said that he can't is because ripping a DVD to CD does no good to your PS2 - CDs aren't easier to read, you lose a lot of quality (if not some/all the movies), and it's a lot of trouble. Burning games onto DVD is a lot easier

i agree with dan168
Most PS2 have a lot more problems with CD's then they do with DVD's
so your best bet is to do one of the following:
1. get better 8X DVD-R media burn at 4X
2. Get quality 8X DVD+R media if your burner can booktype and when you burn it with DVD Decrypter change the booktype to DVD-Rom and burn at 4X
3. stick to using DVD's for DVD based games.
4. try using ISO Buster & Nero to rebuild games that give you problems to see if they work or run more smoothly. With a good modchip this should not really be needed though.

U shouldnt have a problem burning FIFA infact you shouldnt have a problem with any game for ps2 all you need to do is get DVD Decrypter then go
1 ISO>MODE>READ
2 Once image is saved to your harddisk go ISO>MODE>WRITE
3 then just play it there is no need to patch
The best media to use is a Printable ( WHITE FROM THE TOP ) not like tdk or philips or verbitan just a printable one is the best DVD-R not +R and burn it at 4x no faster cause it will skip once you play it and not slower cause it will lag and make sure you have at least a P3 with 933mhz and 256mb ram or it will drop from burning it at 4x to 1.3x and then start speding and slowing
JUST FOLLOW THIS AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE REPPLY AND TELL ME IF IT WORKED

Ok... have you ever read this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 ?? The ones you've listed are the better ones on that list... and that list is there for a reason, people have spent the time and effort to try out the different DVD-Rs...

Agree with above, printable media would not be the best choice for games. They are great for movies but not games.
I had decent results with them but not nearly as good as the non-printable type.
And i have had nothing but great success with Philips, Verbatim, and Taiyo Yuden so far.
I used Philips 8X DVD-R for 2 years and backed up countless PS2 games, Xbox games, and movies with a 100% success rate.
the only discs that ever failed me where when my burner was going bad.

Y do PHILIPS VERBATIM do better than printable disc , why would you pay $20au more for each disc to say philips on it idnt find a difference + i think RITEK runs the smoothest on a ps2 which are printable and THAT LIST IS THERE FOR A REASON ITS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE BEGINERS AND FALL FOR EVERYTHING AND would fall for buying those types of dsics that dont even work

Ok... NO. The list is compiled by people independent of this website, in fact it was compiled by a reputable website which talks about digital media in general. They have tested the medias themselves and this is the list they came up with, now unless you have rock solid evidence to back up what you are saying then it's a different story. Don't go criticising other people's work when you can't even put up a valid argument please.

Feel free to buy a pack of each of the brand of DVD-R listed on that site and test it out :) I'll be interested in hearing your results actually.

Right, that's why you own a modded PS2... again, don't criticise something unless you can back what you say.

I would just like to say, after ordering my SM discs, I spent an entire night till like 3 in the morning, searching the internet for ps2 backup info, after sifting through the garbage and runing spyware scan after spyware scan, I found this goldmine of knowledge, Ive had minimal probs with my games and have learned so much, I just want to thank everyone who has contributed to these forums and has taken the time to make "noob guides" with screenshots and all! Sony is going to send assasins after you guys so watch your backs!
Thanks

A) No one said you are an idiot, kiwi1 merely said that don't argue with one
B) Well, I've never had to repair the V9 and it's been what, 3-4 years? Its the way you treat things, not how good they were designed/made
C) "I have a modded ps2 which usually works fine with older games." I think this is you, no?
@kiwi1 heheh yeah same, if I don't have a presentation to prepare and I'm busy as hell doing my powerpoint slides, I'd be on my PS2 right now.

Actually, it's not because that GameCubes are good quality that they are made in Japan, it's that because they are made in Japan that they are good quality :) By the way, I'm not saying that it's a bad console, I'm just saying you are being biased against the PS2.
And my other computer which now acts as a server has been running since 1995, what's your point?
