I'm pretty sure everyone here knows that memorex DVD+R's 8x are horrible for burning games, ps2 games, and, well, pretty much every everything. I'm just giving my two cents on my awful experience with this crap media after seeing that 30 of the 40 PS2 games and 40 of the 70 Movies I've copied don't seem to work anymore! Even more, there is this awful red colored stain on the top of each DVD in which i'm guessing it's the deteroriation of the cheap-quality dye that memorex uses for their media. Well, just wanted to vent a bit and see what the next DVD+ or -R's i should be getting. Verbatim DVD-r 8x sounds appealinga t the moment. Anyways, tell me your experiences with Memorex DVD+R's! :).

Well i had a friend give me three of them about two years ago.
I tried one for games, i tried one for movies and the third i decided would just make a better frisbee.

you can use them as Chinese death discs on all your neibors :)
Beer Coasters, draw hipnotic symbols and spin them on a pencil to mezmorize people, use them as spy mirrors to see around corners,
skip them over water, use them to make a decorative flower box.
anything but copy any sort of data to them :)

i dont kno why everyone says memorex is bad. i have like 350 movies on memorex's and they all work fine. and i jus started burning ps2 games and so far the 8 i ahve burned have been fine,a nd they are all +R 8x. i prefer -R, but i had +'s lyuing around the house. also i told my dad to buy ritek's or maxell's and he comes home with office depots. wtf is that. but ya memorex work for me.

The laser in DVD players are better than those in a PS2, so they'll play fine even though the media isn't the best. As for your PS2 games, they may work now, but they won't be good on your laser and in the long term you'll see the effect of that

Im sure you cant still play it, but at the same time your ps2's laser is dying a painful death. There are some very good threads/sticky's on aD written by extremely intelligent ppl, check them out.

Agree with above - at the end of the day it's your PS2 laser you are risking. The link for what media to use is given above :)
Having said that, I reckon HDD is the way to go, it's fast, it doesn't use your laser, and the compatibility isn't actually too bad :)

Not all memorex are bad i usually buy sony DVD+R 8x but when i see memorex on sale i buy the 25 packs DVD+R 16x and they work great here's the Disc ID: RICOHJPN-R03-04 and from what i see they are second class media which is pretty good so just remember that not all memorex are bad.
PS: i use them mostly for PS2 games

just like everyone said. your experience with memorex might be considered "great" if you haven't used this media for at least 6 months. I thought memorex was pretty reliable until most of them crapped out on me. True that some discs might be flawless, but as someone else here mentioned, I do notice that my PS2 laser is slowly losing its focus to read some of my other non-Memorex PS2 backups. lol, I guess i have 60+coasters to use for my next superbowl party, or as steimy put it, Chinese Death Discs to attack my neighbors. :). have fun with those coasters in about 6 months memorex users.

oh no s2god! if those burns were pretty recent, you better start planning what you are going to be doing with your 250+ coasters after six months-1 year. better yet, save the frustration ahead of time, and start uploading all your movies on different media now so you won't be so irate like i was. :).

janrocks,
yeah i forgot that one. Not much of a hunter myself so it did't come to the front of the brain that day.
Although i am no gardener either and somehow the flower box did?
damn that Martha Stewart :)
As for the Memorex, i have known people who have had some success with them. But there are 100 people who have had bad success to every 1 person who has had good success.
and i would really worry more about the laser with those.
It may take 3-5 years for it to happen, it may take 3-5 months there is just no telling. But get some good disc and re-copy those games onto better media.

I burnt about 30+ games over the span of a year to two years on Memorex DVD+R X8's and Im yet to see any problem whatsoever. Infact while reading this I tried to boot up some of the older games I burnt on them to see if they would fail or make an error and nothing. So I guess Im a lucky one. However after I ran out I got a pack of Maxell +R X8's and yesterday bought a new pack of sony +R X8's but I've yet to use one of those.
