i have 2 ipod's formatted to mac and have a pc due to "the breakup".
how can i reformat the ipods to pc (only having a pc now) without losing the music on them. the apple store did it from pc to mac but they won't help a pc-er out. please help as i've burned tons of vinyl to the ipods on the mac and don't have the capability to do it with my pc (or want to take the time, and lots of it, it took).

Try just plugging the iPod into the pc, a box should come up asking you to reformat it to the pc.

You could try some of the methods listed here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/250743

But theres a chance it won't work. The good news is trying any of those methods won't erase your iPod.

Mac's don't run with the same hardrive format as does Windows. So when you get your iPod and connect it to a Mac it formats it in whatever Mac HD format is [I can't recall what it is at the moment] Windows machines run on the FAT 32 format. While Mac's are compatibile with FAT 32 Windows machines are not compatible with Mac's format.

So outside of using some third party software, I really can't think of a way this would work. I've never formatted an iPod to Mac so I don't have any personal experience.

EDIT

Please post back with your results!

waymon, try reading the entire message-whatdafuk!
darkjello, thanks for the suggestion direction. i actually found a way to bypass the whole problem. i downloaded a free trial of xplay2 and it gave me the option of reformatting my itunes to work with mac formatted ipods! YES!!! problem solved, as i don't care of the format of my ipods as long as i can put music on/off with my computer! so there's an easy way around the reformat problem w/out losing the music on the ipod!
