henc is a bit hit and miss but it does seem to like you to wait a few seconds before opening it.

About this 1.5 being just as safe as other firmwares. It seem true from what I read that as long as you do not write things to flash you are fine. The problem is that on 1.5 some people have bricked a PSP by running programs that they did not know were bad code (virus). As far as I am aware, running the same program on a 2.71 which emulates 1.5 results in a messed up devhook but the PSP is still fine.

There is a program called PSafeP which will check code to see if it is likely to write to flash.

It also seems, to me, easier to find safer sources for upgrading to 2.71 rather than downgrading to 1.5 , but maybe thats just my bad perception. My mind says, Sony designed the PSP to be upgraded hence you can find a 2.71 upgrade on some UMDs. Did not design it to be downgraded hence you have to try and cheat it, it is not that supprising that a PSP is more likely to brick when someone tries to downgrade the firmware than when they upgrade it. But again, maybe I am wrong.
