I thought that I should do a fresh post as I now have actually been able to uninstall Nero via an uploaded (download for the Nero 6 Clean Tool from another forum as I simply could not d/l this regardless of what site I went to, it kept saying "the page cannot be displayed" and in the task bar "cannot find server" and this was at international sites as well.
Well, I did rid of the 6.6.0.18 that Binkie7 was great to give me the thread to and I did it over top of my other version and it would not open and caused me problems with my OE 6 and so I wanted to rid of it and start Fresh and that is why I am posting here.
In spite of doing a Clean Tool Nero 6 uninstall there is still about 20+ entries in my registry according to Reg Supreme proggy which I have used for years and has served me well. I use it on normal setting and of course it has the backup feature. I am not going to mess with my registry with my meagre experience.
My version of Nero is an OEM that came with my BenQ 162I burner, my system is xp, sp2.
The OEM is Nero express 6.3.1.23B, Nero vision 2.1.2.18B and Nero showtime 1.5.0.39.
After what happened and still with this junk in my Registry I am afraid to attempt to install the OEM again, I don't have InCD installed.
I have the Links that Binkie7 gave me originally to d/l overtop of my OEM, but don't know what I should do after spending a half a day messing with trying to rid of the program and there are still scraps of it in the registry, strangely according to my Reg Supreme with Bill P Win Patrol attached to the entries, which was the Win Patrol that was removed over a year ago.
I don't get that one???
Now I really need advice as to what to do now??
I would appreciate experienced suggestions, thankyou.

Hi Appa
Each registry utility can pick up different things & some are better than others.
When software is installed your application info, settings, keys etc are stored in the registry for the O/S to access (just a brief explanation).
When uninstalling software (any actually) not all traces are removed.
That's why is good to run a registry cleaner to try and remove what is no longer installed, missing entries, etc. to help the pc run smooth.
But on the same hand you have to watch out because the registry is like the main database that the pc continually accesses to run.
To really rid the registry of uninstalled programs you would go to run>regedit and manually find & remove the entries. Not advised unless you are very comfortable doing it.
So run the registry utility you feel comfortable with.
You should be good installing Nero again now.

Thx binkie, I did run my Reg Supreme and it left all that junk 20+ files and that is the program that I have used for years. this is the first time that I have tried an uninstall of Nero.
Do I have to install my OEM to do an install of the updates as I tried to d/l the updates and now it goes through the motion and says "cannot find server", yet the green square blocks move again ever so slowly across the screen and the fourth green light on my computer that stays on solid green was not on at all and so I suspected that I would get an error.
Could it be my firewall? it is only windows xp, sp2 as I use an SMC Router and Alpha shield hardware with my modem all required by management for me to do work at home.
I did some other d/l's today and no problems.
No I don't feel comfortable doing a hand pick job of the Registry and btw I am rid of all my temp files.
I did a disc clean up and a Perfect Disk defrag, that is the program that I have always used and been pleased with.
I look forward to any suggestions from experienced users.
Again thankyou, I just want to d/l the program and get on with it and BTW I don't have InCd on the notebook and never have.

If you can't get to the website, you might go to another forum to get that straightened out.
But for now, if you can't get to the above site, try putting 64.124.173.62 in the address bar instead. If you get to the Nero site, then go to Support - Tools & Utilities and Nero 6

Thx, I have no problem getting to the site, it shows like it is d/l the driver cleaner and registry checker; just like it does with the other d/l for nero; however I know it isn't b/c the 4th lite on my notebook is not on and the green blocks that move horizontal while in the d/l mode mover ever so slowly.
Then the fttp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/cleanpack.zip opens up and says "The page cannot be displayed" and the task bar reads "cannot find server".
I have tried international sites as well and this is the only proggy that is not co-operating in downloads.
I thought that I should post this, I did not use the numeric address as I have no problem getting to the site, the problem is in the actual d/l???
And this is the only program with such a problem.
I don't know where else in this forum to post of such a problem with doing this d/l, I thought that the Nero site would be the best.

I have also noticed that after doing a "Clean Tool" uninstall, some 20+ entries related to Nero remain in the Registry (when Nero is installed, there are 500+ entries). I have checked this with Registry First Aid, which I use to clean the Registry. I have deleted these entries with this program several times without any further problem.

All I could say about your download problem might be that some routers/firewalls will block FTP sites. You might check to make sure that is allowed. If this is the only FTP site being blocked, I don't know which setting might be doing that, just make sure it hasn't been put is some not allowed list.

You can just install the 6.6.0.18 version. Just enter the serial # from the oem cd.
Do you still have the .exe file for 6.6.0.18 - both packages to install?
It is odd that you could d/l these versions but not the other Nero tools.
If you still need them or the other tools I can upload them for you to d/l from a storage site - think that what the other forum site did you you.

An earlier member, I think it was Saltgrass that mentioned that perhaps there is something that is blocking the fttp d/l in my router or firewall and so I disabled my sp2 firewall, my NAV and my popup blocker and I was still unable to d/l the Clean Tool. But I don't know where the settings are for my SMC Router, if it could be blocking something that it shouldn't be.
Nero was working fine until I d/l the updates from the Links that you gave me overtop of my older version???
Maybe you have some ideas about that. I am so puzzled here about what is going on??

I do have my OEM serial Number that starts out with 1A20 with 4 hyphens and 5 sets of 4 numbers after the hyphens.
Or do I have to d/l the OEM again, I don't know if me doing that before and d/l the 2 Links that were in the other thread corrupted something with Nero or whether my Router is blocking something and yet I can d/l at other sites and with other files???

I figured it out after 2 long arduous days.
I post this as it may help other members who experience this agony!!
First, after the appearance again of "This page cannot be displayed", I went to "Tools" in my IE 6.
And reviewe the settings.
I found:
1. SSL 2.0 Checked off
2. SSL 3.0 Checked off
3. TLS 1.0 NOT Checked off so I Checked it
4. PCT 1.0 Non existent on my notebook, so i did nothing.
I tried again a d/l from the Nero 6 Clean tool and it would not work, and then a message from the "Security Centre" on my computer appeared and said the program or part of the program was blocked and it gave me a choice to unblock it and I did. But still nothing happened.
So I went to my CP and clicked on the Security Centre and disabled the SP2 firewall and tried a D/L again and it still would not work.
So I went and disconnected my Router and connected my Modem straight to the notebook with all of the above still the same and low and behold I got to down load the Nero 6 Clean Tool, Driver and Registry Checker and then I went through the process of the tools.
Rebooted and then I went and did a d/l of the Links that "binkie7" gave me in my other thread and everything seems to be in place.
"Vunderful!!!" After 2 days of, hours and hours!!!
Now I am wondering why there was no check mark by the TLS 1.0???? Does anyone know???
Also what happens if I leave the check mark there?
And I see in the Security Centre that I can make an exception for Programs for the Sp2 firewall, should I do this for Nero???
Or will it cause me problems???
I have now set my notebook back with the modem and router cables connected which will not allow me to d/l Nero, why is it so picky??
I have d/l'd a lot of zip files from other sites and of course other files.
I would appreciate your comments, thankyou.

Looks like it has something to do with your router since you can hook up directly to the modem and all is good on d/l'ing the Nero tools.
I don't think the previous d/l of 6.6.0.18 fudged anything up but my knowledge of router/settings is very limited at best.
If sp2 is the firewall you are using - you should be ok allowing the Nero sites. This is more than likely for when Nero wants to check and see if there are any updates - you are allowing it access to do so.

No, it is the router, firewall and a check mark by TLS and an unblock with my sp2 firewall all combined before I can do ANY Nero D/L?????
This is the only program that requires all of this fiddling around that I have been doing over the last 2 days and finally accidentally by focusing on the error Window "This paage cannot be displayed," I finally stumbled across this.
Very confusing, as it looks like I will have to put Nero as an "Exception" in the firewall option.
What are your comments???

The exception part in the firewall should be to allow Nero access to check for updates/ internet database and I can't think of when else it may to connect to the internet.
I don't use sp2's firewall or IE any version so sorry but I can't help you there :(
Hopefully some else can get you straight on those.

Hi Binkie, I don't know anything about this either and don't understand what sort of access an Exception might mean.
Now that I have a folder on my Desktop for The Nero 6 Cleaner, and Driver Cleaner and Registry checker that I have used I should not need to d/l these again.
I also have the exe.'s that you gave in those 2 Links saved to a folder on my Desktop for Nero 6, version 6.6.0.18. for a reinstall, should I ever need them.
Perhaps I should even d/l them again and save to a floppy as I keep them safely stored.
Should that not be sufficient so that I don't have to set up an Exception for Nero??
I guess what I really don't understand is what the purpose of an Exception is, is it to simply notify if there is an update???
As it sounded like when I posted before this is the most stable version presently and my other notebook has this version on it and I doubt if I will be updating to Version 7 until I need to for whatever improvement reason and so perhaps I don't need to do an Exception. I want to make sure all of the bugs etc. are out of Nero 7.
I could possibly keep checking at this site to insure that my 6.6.0.18 version is ok yet???
Does that make sense, I have never updated for the sake of a new version coming out.
If it aint broke, I don't fix it. I use this program with Any DvD where needed. Does Nero make changes in its versions b/c Nero users use Any Dvd and so need to alter their versions to accomodate Any Dvd changes so that I will continually have to keep checking??
Also if I need to d/l a newer version in the future will I have to remove this version to get the program to function properly and do a Register clean etc. (based on what occurred this time it looks like I may have to??)

Yes now that you have the updates and tools that you need for Nero 6 no need to down them again. You can take those and copy them to a floppy, cd, flash drive for safe keeping should you ever need them.
The exception bit just allows programs to access the internet when needed. Like your antivirus will access for a definitions update w/o asking you 1st. So for what you are using Nero for you don't really have to set an exception for Nero.
I doubt there will be any more updates to 6. For 7 it's come along way imho but again for what you are using Nero for 7 may not be worth shelling out more $ for. As you said so well 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
Nero make changes/fixes/enhancemens to their software for different reasons. It's a complex piece of software that's trying to do alot w/ many different people buying it so bugs kinda come w/ the territory when you are dealing all different pc setup's. What one user may experience another may not.
AnyDVD is not usually listed in the version history. For AnyDVD to work w/ some of the copy protections w/ Nero - Slysoft would need an update. If Nero does it I doubt they would advertise it :)
If you do do a new version esp. update to 7 then yes uninstall, run the clean tools, a registry cleaner and then install the new version.

Hi again Binkie, so in your experience then Nero may not necessarily make changes to a version for Any DvD reasons; it could more than likely to be to fix bugs in the system.
This version of 6.6.0.18 then could last me several months to a year is that a fair statement?
I have to try it out tomorrow to see if it is really working after all my sweat in getting it downloaded, i am glad that I explore different ideas that i come up with and make notes in my notebook so that i try different things out before giving up. I have always been like that and this time I struck "pay dirt", at least I hope that I have. I will know tomorrow when I try to use the program. I checked the "About" and it is definitely the 6.6.0.18 that is listed.
I use this program primarily for data backup and the occasional backup of my purchased kids library collection and also our old baby boomer rock concert collection plus of course our country music collection.
I am so new to doing saving, I guess I can't leave the folders on the desk top and save them to a floppy as well. i believe if I save the folders to a jump/flash drive it will be an export and I will lose them from my desktop?? Correct or not?
I would really like to have 2 backups as I don't want to go to this ordeal again and I wonder about your Links and how much life they actually will still have in them before Nero removes them?
Again I would appreciate your experienced comments.

I should say, as you know by my other post that I use the 1 Click DVD copy more often than not but never get notices about updates and get left behind. I am current now and would like to be notified if there is an update and then i snoop the forums to see if it is stable.
On the kids notebooks they have Clone DVD installed and use that and there is no notification there either, slysoft only tells when there is a new version of Any DVD.
Again Binkie you have been great, as my biggest problem is that I don't do back ups on a regular basis and so I make notes like I did for the problem that arose in this particular situation so that i don't have to bother busy forums with duplicate questions even though I always do a search.

Here's the weird thing about Recode and AnyDVD - for the Sony ARccOS ones if doing a full back up & running AnyDVD in the background Nero 6 will usually give you an error.
But take the same movie and use Nero 7 and it will work. So something had to change w/ Recode but I've never seen anything mentioned in the version history but Nero does advertise that it is not for non copy protected movies.
Yes Nero 6 should last you a good bit. I still use 6.6.0.18 on my laptop. No real need for me to upgrade that one to Nero 7.
Yes you can keep the downloads on your desktop or someone else on your hard drive. The only way you would lose them from your hard drive when adding to a cd/flash/floppy is if you did a cut and paste. Just copying them will still the file intact on your hard drive.
Your right too - I don't know how much longer Nero will keep those packages for 6.6.0.18 up on a server to download. The tools will be available longer.
In CloneDVD go to preferences when you option (top right hand corner) there is an option to set to auto check for updates. 1Click should also have an somewhere when you open it on the user interface. But I haven't used 1Click in awhile & have since uninstalled it.
Now for these you would need to allow an exception or allow - however SP2 does it - in your firewall for these programs to check the internet automatically for updates.
I do a lot of backups though no country music here :) Rock yes :)

Hi Binkie, just a couple of last queries. If I do a right click on all the installs for Nero 6 (2 Links) that you gave me and select copy and insert a floppy will that actually save the contents of those Links to my floppy in case something happens to my notebook???
As you can see I have never done backups and that is what the office has urged me to sit down and to and that is why I had to get Nero up and running so that I have copies of my fore example, my cd defrag program " Perfect Disk" which is what I have the CD for and installed on my notebook and as well i want to back up my OEM version of Nero which I have the serial number for.
In this case do I go to "Copy and backup" in the Nero 6.6.0.18 and click on "copy and backup" and then "burn image to disc"??
Sorry for these 2 mundane questions, the first about copying my install and clean up tools to a floppy and the second on how to backup my application cd's??
I have to spend time this weekend doing this and filing the originals and the copies away. I have been remiss in doing this and basically only burned backups to my Rollingstones Collection from video to DVD and from my purchase Library of DVD's, many of which are imports from the UK and Germany. I can do those fine but i have not done any backups of my data applications.
I would appreciate your comments on what are mundane questions and for which I apologize.
Many thankyous again for your help and tenacity in this ongoing problem that was finally solved. I look forward to hearing your comments on the above queries.
BTW, you mention issues with recode, when will that occur with me as what I do is do a straight copy of the original disc, again as you can see I don't do that many backups and the recoding i am not that familiar with. As I mentioned the apps that we use on all of our notebooks are DVD Shrink if needed, 1 Click , and Clone Dvd. These programs are on a couple of the family notebooks, but would they conflict if we were to d/l Clone Dvd as an example along with Nero 6???

Not mundane questions :)
If just saving it to a floppy/flash you can right click - copy then paste to the device/drive under 'my computer'. This is what I usually for apps, files under a gig that I want to transfer to another pc or save.
To copy applications/software cd's/dvd's - I just use NeroExpress and the 'copy entire disc' option. Just does a copy to copy.
The Recode giving errors is usually just on the Sony ARccOS protected discs. You can set AnyDVD to show the disc info which will show the copy protection on it too. Right click on the red fox go to settings>program settings. Check 'show information window for new media'.
Adding to CloneDVD to the PC w/ Nero 6 will be fine. No conflicts there. The pc's of mine that have Nero also have CloneDVD. No problems.

Good band to Rolling Stones - saw them 2x several years ago and great shows too.

Thought that I should post this, I have 1 Click dvd copy on this notebook and any dvd and did the d/l for Nero 6, I thought successfully.
However, it did not turn out that way. There was an issue between Any DVD and Nero to the point that I could not even post here until I uninstalled Nero 6.6.0.18 with the clean tools, and then did a Reg Clean with Tune Up 6, an excellent program BTW.
Then I had to uninstall Any DVD and reinstall it and then i was finally able to use my notebook.
I really don't know what is going on here??? Although in other forums i posted in i received similar discussions regarding the problems i have had with this Nero.
I don't know if it is conflicting with 1 click or whether it is any dvd that loads on start up and i disabled the Nero check feature, so i really don't understand all of this however this program does not seem to be compatible for me.
The other discussions have been to look at Deep Burn Pro.
Binkie I would appreciate your comments on this and what has occurred. I am now going to try to burn with 1 Click and hope that it is not corrupt now.

hmmm question for you - is this the only laptop you had this connectivity problem with (besides the one w/ the d/l's - same laptop?) You have a few lappies so just want to make sure I get it straight :)
In the other forums what were their thoughts? Did they have the connectivity issues using these app's?
I've ran all those apps at one point and never had a connection problem but it's been awhile since I had 1Click.
You can set AnyDVD not to autostart. Right click on the red fox. Go to settings>progra settings and uncheck 'autostart'
So they are saying Nero is not compatible w/ the lappy?
I don't think 1Click is corrupt now but give it a go & post back the results. And anything you can fill in on the above questions.
Off for the night now so I'll start sleeping on it :)

I have not posted here for a bit b/c I was trying to d/l on my other notebook that has Slysoft's Clone Dvd and Any Dvd on it. It is a new toshiba and the above programs got corrupted, and would not work. So i uninstalled Nero with the clean tools and did a Reg clean with Tune Up 6 and i kept getting an error message on Reboot from Any DVD saying to uninstall the program and reinstall, that I did not have any Burner Drive and gave me options, one of which was to go out and "buy one" LOL, on that notebook we have a Sony external burner (new one) i think it is a 810 UL; that was working fine with Clone Dvd and Any Dvd. Before all of this.
Now I am back on this notebook, the original one and got the same message on Reboot as described above with Any Dvd. I have uninstalled Any Dvd and did a Reg Clean and will attempt a reinstall of Any Dvd and then a REboot and see what happens then??? I thought I would post before I go and do that. Otherwise I may be locked out of accessing my OE or Forums.
No, the other forums said they simply gave up with Nero as they had the same problems that I have in doing a d/l of the Tools and the update version install with the internet and they are hi speed connected to.
What the other posters and I both had in common was that we did not set the Nero 6 update version to be the Default for Photosnap and I think the other one was Media Player.
I prefer to use Intervideo and I have a Canon program that came with my Printer the Pixma ip 5000 and use that program for Photos and don't want to use Neros.
The one poster, said that he gave up on Nero and is using Deep Burn Pro??? I think that is the program as he said that he had so many issues with the Tools and the d/l of updates and he also had either 1 Click or Clone Dvd and Any Dvd on his regular PC and his notebook.
He said that he disabled Any Dvd as you suggested from loading and then he had more problems with it not working when he clicked on it with his burning programs, as it seems to want to be on startup.
So he is using it on Start Up again and he is having no problems with this Deep Burn, or 1 Click or Clone Dvd.
I don't remember these problems when I loaded the OEM of Nero 6 that came with my BenQ burner which was awhile ago and that version was 6.3.1.23B OEM and I did do an update or 2 after that one and there were no issues. I did the d/l overtop and this is the first time that I have ever tried to uninstall the program.
I was thinking about trying to install the OEM and see what happens, but I don't know if I should try it or not.
The other poster has a regular PC and he had similar problems, he said also like I found even after I did the successful d/l checked the version number on the flame and then clicked on smart start and the dvd program, just to do a test dvd burn the program would not respond, it was like it was not there. I looked in my programs and it was all listed there.
He said it was the 6.6.0.14 though that he was trying to d/l first and then he tried to d/l the 6.6.0.18 when it came out and he had my problems.
Any ideas, do you have other programs like 1 Click, Clone Dvd and Any Dvd installed along with this Nero 6.6.0.18???
Just wondering what I should do next and would appreciate experienced comments.
BTW, I went into safe mode and did the uninstall of Clone Dvd and Any Dvd and as well used my Reg cleaner in Safe Mode>
This is frustrating and baffling!!!

Yes I am baffled too. And am at a loss now.
It could be a conflict somewhere but the question is where.
Without being there and just doing the forum help thing - my last suggestion is more extreme - reformat and start clean. Slowly add back the the programs.
DeepBurn never used it so can't really comment there. The pc that I have 6.6.0.18 I have several: Decrypter, Shrink, Clone, AnyDVD, DVDFab, ImgBurn, RipIt4Me & Sonic. I also don't have Nero set as the default option for files.
I wish I had a better answer/solution for you!
