@taz1974
The thermal # is the heat output of the chip...lower the number the less heat output at the rated speed...lower is better...usually more expensive...better grade chip...more over clockable

As for all in one cables...never seen one...would not be of any real gain since they route to diffrent components...

@mort81
how do you like that Hiper P/S?..I looked at buying one a year ago...saw some bad reviews...concerning 12v rail stability...saw some good reviews...saying problem cured...excellent build quality...whats been your story with one...never known someone who had or used one...love the aviation connectors...

Lp531,

I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews prior to going with the Hiper. Some good some bad but mostly good. One review stated that the screw on aeronautical connectors were cheap and crossthreaded easily. All I can say to that is they obviously didn't know how to "screw" and must have tried to start threading before the connector was seated or possibly started them crooked and tried forcing them with pliers. I had no problems whatsoever with crossthreading and tighten them fully by hand.

Another review compared it with 7 or 8 other top quality high end psu's of equivalent power and the hiper took 1st place. My rails are as follows according to pc probe II: 12 volt rail: 12.09 V. 5 volt rail: 5.07 V. 3.3 volt rail: 3.38 V.

I also like the plastic tool box w/tray that the hiper is shipped in. Gives me a nice play to store my extra screws, adaptors, thermal paste, cables, etc.

Every cable and adaptor I needed was included with the psu and still have plenty to spare. Personally, unlike sam, I can not even hear the fans on the psu over the fan on my X850XT running at 27%. I have absolutely no complaints as of yet.

The EVGA is a brand new board they show...SLI rated and non SLI rated kits...they don't show the 2GB kit as SLI rated...I am assuming they just have not updated the list to include this kit yet...I would call EVGA and or OCZ and confirm that this kit is rated to work in SLI before ordering...

Mort81 or Lp531,
I'm looking at another video card for my system but want to possibly carry it over to the next puter I build (hopefully soon...lol). I have a mid-grade single core AMD processor and 1GB of RAM with a PCI-e or PCI slot available. The mobo also has an AGP slot but most mobo's for the future don't, right? I don't play a lot of games but might in the future, I have a GameCube and pS2 for games. Present video card: ATi Radeon 9250 4X AGP 128. TIA for the help.

Lp531,
I'll say it, "THANKS for helping in this thread, you give so much and expect so little in return."

Mort81,
I already kissed your feet in a PM months ago but here it is anyway. lol. THANKS Buddy.

aabbccdd,
Back or not, WE all just wanted OUR Adrianna BACK. LOL. j/k you know how I feel.

On that video card...you were talking about a $100 budget...if you can go a little more...you should be able to come up with a 7600GT...If you shop around at the right time...

probably the best bang for your buck...anyone else got any suggestions...

PCI-Express is what you want...what board is it?..

Here is the link to my board. Cheap I know but not going to the next build, staying right where it's at. lol.

Yeh a $100 or so will suffice. Keep in mind that I plan to move the video card you recommend to the next build. If there are any more questions let me know. Thanks.

greensman,

Keep in mind I'm no expert by any means in regards to video cards. You definately want to go PCIe. That card series that Lp531 gave you, 7600gt or 7600gs would probably be a good choice for nvidia in that price range. For ATI you might consider a X1600pro, X1600XT, or a X1650pro or X1650GT. You should be able to find a descent card with 12 pipelines for around $100. I'm probably an nvidia fanboy but couldn't pass on the X850XT platinum edition card I have now when they stopped production on them. The fan exhausts out the back of the case. It has 16 pipelines and cost about $165.

24 pipelines is nothing now and cards like the 7950GT and 1950XT and pro are coming down fast.

Mort81 and Lp531,
Forgot to mention that the next build will be (99% sure) with an Intel processor. Been reading (yeh I can read....lol) and it seems that the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor is good stuff. lol. Like you guys don't know this.

Does Intel's compatibility with video cards sway either way? I've only used ATi but know that nVidia is good too. Lurking and learning. Thanks again.

edit: oops I can read but can't type for you know what.....

greensman,

Both nvidia and ATI are compatable with core 2 duo's however I mostly see only SLI (for nvidia's) ready core 2 duo mobo's. Actually I don't think I have ever seen a crossfire (for ATI's) ready core 2 duo mobo. As you probably know, ATI and AMD have merged. I don't run SLI or crossfire so I could very easily be wrong about that. A single card made by either will work fine. Anybody else more educated about the subject please jump in.

a single pcix card will work in any mobo chipset, for sli (nvidia) you will want a nf65/68i. for crossfire you want one of the intel/ati(it was then) chipsets 965/975.

dont touch the 1600s with a barge poll, if they were any good ati would not of brought the 1650s out.

not 100% on the cost in the states but agp cards cost more in the uk than the pcix equivelant. now i have a amd3400 which was in an agp mobo, for the price of an agp 7600gt (£150) i could get a nf4 mobo and a 7600gt pcix card. guess which i bought. i got a 26%overclock with the nf4 board.

Did a little searching a came up with this comparison of cards. I think they are all good but don't really understand the memory (256 v.512) and GDDR2 v. GDDR3. I'm guessing 512 is better than 256 and GDDR3 is better than GDDR2 but they're all similar prices. To confusing when you need to go to sleep. >_<....yawn...

Right now these are at the limits I can spend and get away with it. lol. I can wait if need be a few more weeks or even months for a better card to come down in price or these to come down. Thanks.

I,m not here to argue but I had a X1600pro in my old pc and although I don't do much gaming but watch a lot of video, it never gave me a lick of trouble. I felt it was a good card for the money.

So by that you're also saying the 7900GT, 7900GTO, X1900XT, and X1900XTX are no good either just because they came out with a later improved revision of the card and ended it with 50. I disagree.

The BFG OC is the best deal...20mhz faster core speed...50mhz faster memory speed...after rebate it is also the cheapest...
Prices have come down...

256MB vs 512MB...they are talking about the amout of memory on the card...
DDR2 vs DDR3...they are talking about the type of memory on the card...DDR3 is faster memory then DDR2...
