i was looking at that memory but its just 2 much.

Is there any changes to parts i could make that would keep the performance by lower the cost?

I thought these "changes" would make your puter a little bit better IMO. ;) More power for a $1 and the BIGGER GPU for $6 seemed like good ideas to me. :) GOOD luck with your build! :)

...gm

after looking at the PSU i would change it with your for sure

Ok, they decided that they did not want it going over 1500 so here is the new list, its total is 1459.27, however they do want a media card drive and some software so it will be about 1500 after that, i had to downgrade a few parts :( but i did add that PSU but everthing else is now a bit too much, i will still try and do some talking

sorry for such a long post, but here is the part list:
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=...3486&cid=CPU.84
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=...495&cid=RAM.835

http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=...10282&cid=HD.96
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=...1005&cid=MT.282

i think this build is a great deal, and better then anything your going to find at futureshop or bestbuy. I am trying to have thier prices but build a better computer, and I think this one really does that, it has great parts, and a 22" LCD, thas a great deal for under $1500. The big problem is windows xp oem, I just called every Canada Computers store and none of them have it :( i really dont know what to do!

mike what are these people going to do with their computer? This is a very important question because they are skimping out on some important features. :) I'm looking at this thing more closely to see if I can make any "quality" changes. ;D

...gm

EDIT: to add changes..

intel E6320 about $30 cheaper and still fast and powerful

Patriot RAM $75 after MIR ($30 savings over MUskin)

19" ViewSonic $90 cheaper if you can go in-store and pick it up

Acer 19" $80 cheaper delivered

XP PRO $60 higher than the HOME edition but WELL worth it

With the changes you would get almost the same computer and save about $170 with a better OS and RAM and a bit smaller LCD monitor. :)

NOW if you wanted to change the GPU, which I would, go with the change I suggested earlier and I think you still end up well under the $1500 dollar mark you're looking for. ;)

good ideas, they really have their heart set on a 22". But ya, the RAM change looks good, but I will have to see if the rebate comes on my last Patriot RAM first to see if they really do send it, I will also look at the graphics you sujested, because i want the display to look amazing for them on the 22"

I think the people you're dealing with are a bit under-educated when it comes to what components to "skimp" on. :) The monitor is pretty but if you don't have the ability to really push it at the 22" then why get it?

I looked at your choice of case too. It comes with a PSU, you don't need one and I'm sure the one that comes with the case is sub-par at best. ;) Take a look at this case and see what you think. Newegg link for more details and pics. :P

With the savings from the previous post I think you can swing this case. :)

Hope I'm helping.... ;)

...gm

btw what are they gonna do with the PUTER?? If it's games then they gotta look at a much better GPU! :O

I'm not a big time patriot fan boy but that ram has better specs than the mushkin (lower cas latency and tighter timings). better if planning to OC. a lot of the time your just buying the name with mushkin. which brings up another question. are you planning to OC? if so don't forget an aftermarket cpu hsf.

you're taking quite a dive on the GPU but I suppose it can always easily be upgraded later.

at least its not the graphics HP and compaq give you, you cant even find such low end cards at canada computers now

i think hp still usues the 6000 series

I'm fairly new to this as well. Mort81 really knows his stuff and Lp531 too. If you can ever get them in here BigDK and docTY are PRETTY smart too. hehehe. Little jab at them to see if they visit.

I've built a few 'new' systems but mainly I've played with some upgrading stuff. I was PUSHED into the learning curve with some "wonky" components and learned at an early stage in the puter building that cheaper normally means NOT BETTER. LOL. Lots of reading my boy, lots of reading. hehehe. ;)

OK, a small history into what I really don't know. :P btw I have a pS2 for games. lol. I do have some PC specific games but I don't play that often. I do a lot of video/media work and some just plain ol' fooling around. :)

Try for the 7600GT if possible, it'll be much better than the 7100 or an 8400GS. Unless the user is solely an office worker a 7100 will be rubbish.

much better explained by doing some googling. here's a start. although this article is outdated, everything is basically the same with exception that you won't see as low of cas latency and tight of timings with DDR2 as you did with DDR, or if you do it will cost you big bucks.

I have learned from docTY as well. Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure to have any tutalage from BigDK but I would listen intently if instructed. :)

On wearing out your welcome, NEVER in my book or circles for that matter. :)

DON'T sell yourself short either! You're a smart cookie and have plenty of knowledge the rest of us haven't gotten to yet. :P Maybe some day. :D

OK enough of that. You know how I feel about your presence here.

@mike,
You get everything worked out buddy?

btw I've learned similarly to Mort81. NOT personal phone instruction from the docTY but plenty of PM's. :P And from DVDHounds as well (BroBear, Soph, Syxguns and a couple of others). There are some GREAT guys over there and very helpful as well. :D And READING too. I'm still an infant in the computer building process but I normally can figure out what goes with what. If I have questions I normally come hear and wait for the gurus to come a calling. :P @ GURUS. hehehe.

most things yes, but i have spent about 1hour trying to figure out how hp is selling this: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddet...10089682&catid=
for the price (1399.99CND), i have been trying to duplicate it for the same price but i just cant? can any of you duplicate it using parts from www.canadacomputers.com

it is just so hard, like the ram do they maby use 1gb+1gb then 512+512? Its just so hard to do it for the price! if you can I will be amazed

My Brother in Law just bought one through Circuit City...It works nice as a Media Center...
Hp bought alot of the quad core's at a good price...thats how they were able to price them so low...however...You can still build a better version for the same price...or just a little more...

here is my first attempt, its is 1811.76 after tax, and future shops is 1823.97, so here is the list, i had to get the CPU off ebay. and there was just no way i could get 2 320GB hard drives in there, but 500GB is really huge, I think i did a good job, but it took a long time and forced me to use very chep RAM which i hate doing.

Can you buy parts from USA?..instead of Canada...
I'm not familiar with Canadian Retailers...

It looks like that E-bay retailer you chose has a lot of components at good prices...Might be the way to go for you...

I was finally able to give people the same system with some better parts (800MHz RAM) for the same price, but for the version with out the monitor. Here is the part list

CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo quad core 2.4GHz
RAM-1GB x2 800MHz
512mb x2 800MHz
Mobo-Asus P5B Socket 775
Video-Asus 128Mb nVidia GeForce 7300LE
Mid Size tower
PSU-Thermaltake TR2 430W Power Supply
Windows vista Preimum
Optical Drive- LG GSA-H62N(Black) SATA
Hard drive- Seagate 320GB x2 = 640GB
TV Tuner/Digital Recorder
Internal All-in-1 internal 3.5" Card Reader
My total is $1598.55 and future shop is $1595.99

i think mine is a better deal due to RAM and stuff like the mobo.

@mike,
I don't know what you're trying to do. :) Are you selling these for profit or just doing a few favors for friends?

I'm a little worried about the choices for a PSU and the video card you chose. You have a lot of stuff going into that box for the 430W PSU to power let alone expand at any time. Like another DVD drive, another HDD, external components and the like. NOT picking on your choices but the PSU is the last thing to go "CHEAP" on. ;) AND the GPU is less than desirable. Like sammorris said about some of the other psu's you were looking at, "only for an office worker" or something like that. ;)

I'm being nice here and no malice intended but you don't want your first "high end" build to fail because of a "low end" PSU or GPU.

.....gm

Mort, sam, or Lp you wanna add anything? :S

@ greensman & mike
Yes...I would be concerned about the thermatake 430...He didn't have link to P/S for me to look at connectors and spec's...But I would be nervous about that low of a P/S with a Quad Core...

I would look at Seagate 500gb drives...500gb drives offer the best...GB for $ ratio right now...

The Video card is weak at best...I would spend more there...and I would run either 2GB or 4Gb of memory...Not 3Gb...
3Gb will not be running in Dual channel mode...Hp misleads customers on the memory...
They will tell you that the 3Gb's of memory are dual channel...which is correct...however in that configuration it will only be running in single channel mode...It is Dual Channel memory running in only single channel mode...
