Indeed, can you not find another 1GB of the Crucial stuff you have already?

How can I tell if it has the better micron chips? I'm actually aiming for 2GB for a total of 3GB, otherwise I could get the same stick I already have for 30 bucks I think at tigerdirect.

I know, but they also sell them to other companies. Anyway, what would you recommend, that would overclock on par with my current chips and be reasonably priced.

The Crucials just like you have...However if you go up to 3GB...using (2) 512 sticks...with the (2) 1GB sticks you have...the O/C will probably go down some...

(2) 1GB sticks...will usually O/C better then (4) 512 sticks...

It's alright if my OC goes down a lil bit, I still need more ram. So just go for Crucial RAM?

It might go down slightly...2% to 3%...It might stay the same...
Go with the Crucial...looks like the 1GB kits are $39.99...after Rebate at Tiger Direct...

Also 2GB is good for now, but I would like to be a little more future proof and just get 3GB right now.

After fretting over the processor, decided to continue anyway. I have finished everything only to find that the ram I got is not the right ram - too small in size. So tomorrow, off to the store to get the right RAM and to buy an extra fan. I'll wait til tomorrow to turn it on and see if it works. Got 10 discs with drivers, etc to install as well as the OS. If it works, where ever you all are, I sure you will hear me cheering. Any tips on the extra fan? This will be my third. Oh, btw can someone explain to me what overclocking is and what you would use it for? Thanx again

With the price difference so small...I would recommend just buying another 2GB kit...I know the last 1GB will basically be useless...however...in the future you can pull them to build another system if you so desire...
I never run 3GB...always 2 or 4...

That's what I mean, to get a 2 GB kit, so I'll end up with 3 GB.

Overclocking is when you run something at higher that normal speeds. For example running a 2 Ghz processor at 3 Ghz.

abuzar1..I think a 2 gig kit means 2,1gig chips,if U end up with 3gig.That means U bought a 512meg kit=1024 [1gig].I'm pretty sure U want to stick with the same name brand as U already have.Don't know too much about mix & match.Maybe another name brand will be OK

Whooo can't wait, with the new RAM and my overclocked STABLE cpu now at 3.52 Ghz, I should be getting some boost in performance.

What do you guys think about HDD coolers? Is there a need for one on a SATA 320 or 500? I would think that a 10,000rpm drive might need one but I'm not sure on a 7,200rpm. Here's one on sale from SVC of all places. link to HDD cooler

tia for the advice.... ;)

I have a Raptor in a box with no fan it and it doesn't overheat, I think they're a bit unnecesary most of the time. The only drives I would recommend fans for are 500GB and above Seagate drives, and the 1TB Drives.

If there was a need for extra cooling on these hard drives they would come with some sort of stock heatsink!!Otherwise they would be prone to failure..Which they're not.As long as your case has adequate ventilation.....

Lp531,

I wonder why cooler master has decided to go to steel on their mystique cases? the all aluminum construction is one of the things I like about my mystique case.

hmm, under features it says "Durable and sturdy cold rolled steel" and under specs it say "Material Aluminum Bezel, SECC Body"

here's an even better deal on the CM mystique 632S.

@Lp531,

I looked on cooler masters website and from what I can gather the "S" after 632 designates steel chassis. the 632 with no "S" after it is still all aluminum construction. they're just giving you more options of a great chassis.

I am building my first totally new system in about 4 years. I've been upgrading but now I want to restart from scratch. I've ussually used AMD processors so I am going down that road again. The amd 5000 brisbane can be overclocked from what i've read so i'll start there. Which motherboard will be compatible with that?
I'm going to play the new Team fortress 2 and use a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD2600 Pro Advantage 512MB video card. I also don't have an unlimited amount of $'s
thanks
