Hi greensman,
The only thing that bothered me was the availability. It looked to me like they had them in stock, which they don't. I didn't find out until I ordered two of the things. I tried to cancel, figuring it would be better to buy them someplace else. They wouldn't though. My credit card had been billed. They did say I could return them once they were shipped.... Then I saw the dramatic price increases as well as fairly long ETAs showing up everywhere else. So it still is a good deal.

The only bad part in all of this is that I selected to have them shipped overnight for $20.00, instead of the free shipping. Oh well.

Zoso, I'm looking for a 19" monitor too. I currently have a Samsung 19". Also a widescreen Optiquest which is unimpressive. I've got some older Sony 17" as well. I'd like some opinions on others, I've got more PCs than monitors and need another so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the things.

Zoso, That's going to make a great gift. I'll probably hold off until the stuff I have on order for my new build starts arriving.

I'm already over my budget...........

This is the list of stuff I have on order. I'm sending the first motherboard back.

The first Newegg order:
SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB Hard drive $104.99

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard $169.99

XP Pro $139.99

ASUS DVD-ROM Model DVD-E616A3T $18.99

Thermaltake W0116RU 750W Power Supply $189.99

SILVERSTONE Kublai Series KL02B-W Mid Tower Case $124.99

SAMSUNG Floppy Drive $6.99

SAMSUNG DVD Burner SH-S203B $33.99

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Memory $114.99

Subtotal: $904.91
Shipping: $28.32
Rush Order Fee: $2.99
Total: $936.22

The second Newegg order:
AMD Phenom 9500 Agena 2.2GHz Quad-Core Socket AM2 95W Processor Model HD9500WCGDBOX $259.99

Creative Sound Blaster SB0570 Audigy SE Sound Card $27.99

Total: $293.67

The Third Newegg order:
LOGISYS Computer CLK12BL2 12" DUAL COLD CATHODE KIT $4.99

GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard $209.99

ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED CPU Cooler $59.99

Subtotal: $274.97
Shipping: $4.99
Total: $279.96

My Dell order:
2 Radeon HD 3870 512 MB GDDR4 PCI Express Graphics Card
Dell Home Customers: Save 20% off Select Gaming Accessories! -$112.00
Order Subtotal: $447.98
Shipping and Handling Total: $20.00
Tax Total: $39.31
Total Charges: $507.29

Total for all the orders: $2277.13

Original budget of $2000.00.
I'll get back most of the $277.13 when I return the first motherboard and send in the rebates.

This should be great PC. I'm looking forward to the new video cards as well as the Phenom CPU. I haven't use Crucial RAM so that will be interesting as well. This is my first Gigabyte board too. The Siverstone case with the cold cathode lighting and Zalman cooler should look good.
I have no illusions as to how fast this thing will be. I could have bought a QX9650 and a pair of 8800 GTs for an upgrade to my 680 SLI if I wanted speed, for about the same price.

I think Gigabyte has really set the bar with their DS3 series in price/performance ratios, while delivering excellent quality and customer service.

Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5

The Gigabyte boards have a great reputation here and at other forums. I haven't used one yet so I'm looking forward to this. I've used a couple of P5W-DH Asus boards and have no complaints with those other than both of them start up for a moment then shut off when you turn the PSU switch on.

It should look and perform excellent with the Zalman cooler, the Crucial memory and the HD 3870 cards. This will be the first time I've added lighting. I'll post photos when I get it built.

Mobo
CPU
Memory

may match up my HDs so i can do Raid0

Rob you shouldn't have any problems with the cooler. ;)

I like the GPU too. For your needs I think it's plenty of video card.

I haven't owned a Gigabyte mobo yet but it'll probably be the next mobo that I purchase. So far (ones that are still going...lol) 2 ASUS and one FoxConn. Can't complain about either manufacturer really. ;)

PM me if you need an ODD drive. lol. :P

Lp531,
Good finds on the CM 690 and the 500 GB Seagate Lp531. One or two of your links are "weird". lol. NOt working might be a better description. ;)

I think Rob is going with the Intel E6750 if I remember right and it says in his wish list too. ;)

Rob,
I would consider the change to the CM 690 case and the 32MB cache 500 GB Seagate. Good changes afaik. ;D

.....gm

The P/S you chose will work just fine since your demands on GPU and CPU will not be that great. Besides that P/S is a good one for the money and very highly rated. You can get a better P/S but you'll have to spend over TWICE the money after MIR and such on the CM 650 real power pro. ;)

A P/S is were you should never buy cheap...The PC Power & Cooling will give him headroom for the future...and "allow Rob and his family to live" as Sam would put it..:)

I agree Lp but the Real Power Pro series by Cooler Master have high ratings and seem "better" built than the older models. I know that docTY uses the 850 CM P/S without complaints. ;) I have the 500 W CM as you know and it runs 24/7 right now. I may get a better one later for this build but the "next" build will have a proven good P/S without question. ;)

I agree with you on the Corsair and PC POWER & Cooling P/S and will more than likely get one of those brands when the time comes for me to pull the trigger on a P/S but as you know there are other "good" manufacturers out there. :P

I would grap that CM case...if thats the case you want...I do not see that particular case going any cheaper...

The other case that is good and quiet and nicely priced is the Enermax Chakra...Zipzoomfly Has it the cheapest...I like this case over the Antec 900...JM2C...It is one of the best cases for Cooling and Quietness...

Enermax ECA3052-B Chakra Mid Tower Case (Black) Retail $54.99with $15 rebate $39.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDet...ductCode=270413

Other Great cases on Sale Right Now at Newegg...if you can wait for rebates are...
Thermatake Armour $69 after rebate...Probably the best buy of All of these...
Cooler Master 830 EVO $139 after rebate...
Cooler Master Cosmos $89 after rebate...

Also if that code is No Good on the H/D ZZF has it...
Seagate 500GB 32MB $119
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDet...10005939&ps=ho4

@greenie
Hows every thing?..:)
Quote:
Other Thoughts: I am not overclocking this system and it popped and sparked this morning and is now DOA. I'm not happy and would warn newbs and vets alike to get a more robust supply if your specs meet or beat mine.
I agree that there are many good manufacturers...it just looks like Rob can fit a top notch P/S...within his budget...
If the rebate was not so big...it would be a better deal...Its actually more without rebate then the PCP&C unit...

In this day and age it seems silly not to go with quiet components, so get the Corsair PSU, the PCP&C is not exactly silent, despite the name.
