Crucial Ballistix all the way! lol
Sorry about getting those conversation mixed up. I fixed my math though. You know what seems like a good idea though? Waiting on buying the CPU.
I'm quoting myself here.
Quote: The Core 2 Duo E8400 comes out January 20, 2008 for 183 dollars. It's 3Ghz with 6MB of L2 cache.

It may be CL5 but i can't find any ram that are 1066 with cl4 timings.
Yeh they're good. ;) I personally don't know yet BUT I've read many articles on them and theone has tested them with his rig and was so impressed he has some on the way too. :D AFAIK there isn't cas4 1066 memory and if there was I'm sure it would be out of my price range. lol.
@boozer,
Where are the links for the NEW Intel cpu's?? tia.....

Lol we both linked to the same article! The thing is that it IS a little better, and it DOES overclock a little better while being 100 dollars CHEAPER. Plus it isn't even out yet, it might still get better when the real thing comes out.

From that we can gather that the new 45nm chips draw less power and can easily reach 4ghz and temps decrease by about 10 degrees.

There's no way AMD's chips can compete with this............

That's so true. lol. I just bought me an E6850 and I was told to wait but I'm so hard headed sometimes. :P I think the E6850 will be just fine and I can always update to a BETTER cpu later next year, like Christmas. hehehe.
OK so who is gonna get the NEW Intel cpu first?? If docTY was still here I would put my money on him. He just can't stand NOT be first with the new equipment and technology. Just ask our buddy Mort81...
I'm still waiting on my mobo and my new build will be on its way. ;D

Yo guys, i just learned that my system needs to be up in my room which is far away from the router so i need to really have built in wifi on my mobo.........any suggestions?
It's ridiculous how much effort and thought goes into building a PC. I mean ive probbaly spent more time reading reviews on components than i have done sleeping this holiday season.

Well you don't NEED a a motherboard with built in wifi. Wifi cards are like 20 bucks with shipping.

Just seems good to get a good all in one bundle instead of hassling about buying extra stuff. ;)

He_Man,
I use a Netgear Super "G" 108.11. I get the same up and down speed that I get with the wire on our T1 line and the range seems to be good as it works anywhere in the house or yard. I bought it for the laptop, but had to use it for my desktop when the cable died!. Just plug it into any USB 2.0 port and it works. I bought a re-certified one for $15. Extremely easy to set up if you already have a wireless router.

I'm not trying to restart the peeing contest from the last page, but I've already purchased most everything but mobo + CPU. I dont think I'll be able to wait long after release, it was horrible watching my kids play with new toys at X-mas when my Thermaltake Armor tower was setting back in the corner feeling unloved and unopened, in the biggest gift box of them all! If it is $183 its much cheaper than I expected, might have to get some other goodies too!

Deadrum,
I couldn't agree more. You reach a point where how fast is fast! Both the E6750 and the E6850 are fast. Fast and relatively inexpensive. If we were talking about being able to get the fastest 45nm quad for say $500, that would be one thing but to run right out and buy an E8400 for just for a 3% speed advantage just to be "first", for a chip with no track record at all??? Maybe the improved instruction set might help some things but it's still a total unknown. I already know that with the right 1066 memory, my next step will be 3.8GHz and I know it will work well for my needs.
Someone mentioned DocTY. Well Doc has taken a more "wait and see" attitude lately, instead of running right out and buying the newest and "baddest" chips. To my minds eye, it all gets to be a bit silly if you let it. Then it does become a pi$$ing contest, and who needs that! I'm very happy and content, with what I have. I'm pleased that other people are getting good results with their choices, but it doesn't bother me in the least that some are getting better results than me. I don't ever want to see a time where I feel that I have to somehow beat them. We're all friends here, and I want to see it stay that way. Friendly competition is one thing but if it gets to be an "in your face" thing, it won't be very friendly for long. I just don't want to see that happen as it has in so many other forums.
Just my thoughts!
Best Regards,
Russ

Yeah, I know what you mean. They are a pain in the a$$ to set up the router itself, but once set up mine seems to be fine. I'm using it this very minute. the wireless adapter just plugs into the USB port and after initial installation, it's all automatic and takes maybe all of 15 seconds to be working without any fuss! Haven't had any problems with either the router or the USB adapter.

Russ

Oh it's not so much connecting to the network that is the problem. Its trying to stay ON the network. I mean windows(media centre) is telling me im connected but wont load up any webpages. So i gotta switch off my wireless off and on a few times.
Oh and abuzar, what should i be paying for the crucial ballistix(not tracer ver)?
I think i can get a decent deal for new stick on ebay for say £65,(using best offer)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...:MEWA:IT&ih=008
These are defo the ones to get right?

I didnt buy 1066 but it is 800 XMS CAS4 , I dont know enough about setting the timings aside from FSB x multi so I lurk the OC forums...
Is this going to hamper stock speeds if I go with an E8xxx or just if I try ramping it up?
