Quote: As for me, I'm never getting any case smaller than full tower!
I have one question! Why? My Cooler Master Cavalier case has all the room in it I need and then some. It's 8" wide, 20" deep and 17.25" from the desk to the top of the case. Even having to remove the MB is mo sweat as there's more than enough room without having to do anything but unplug everything from the MB and then plug it back in again. Slips in and out with no problem. Completely tool-less too, and the 5 drive bays and the floppy are covered with a Solid Aluminum door that latches with 4 tiny magnets against the front cover screws. Here it is with the door open! It's easily reversible without tools in a matter of seconds.
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9760/img1048wp4.jpg
The Silver floppy was the real challenge as no one seems to have them and I just couldn't have a beige or Black one, so I just did it myself! LOL!! Looks rather nice if I do say so myself! Here's what it looks like closed!
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/1374/1111907501dk9.jpg
Nice looking and roomy!

Russ

I just don't like working in smaller spaces. The full towers cases give you so much more room to put stuff in. I'll be honest, I'm not GOING to put stuff in there, I just like the idea of it lol!
Also I'm sure that a full tower case has better cooling if you have fans in the right place, which my case certainly does. In fact I can't think of any reason I would use any other case than the Thermaltake Armor, maybe expect for the fact that I might get something similar for cheaper, or if this design gets outdated like beige cases.

I can tell you this, it would be a horror show in the part of the country I live in! Dust would be a major problem. I've tried every possible combination of intake and exhaust and mine works best if I use the front fan for an intake and the side and rear as exhausts. The air intake for the front is a duct on the bottom, and since it's just a simple rectangle I cut myself some filters from the 1/4" foam they use for motherboard packaging and they work fine. I was very surprised when I took out the old motherboard to install this one, when I found very little dust had gotten inside the case. With my old Generic case, I was having to clean it out every 3 or 4 weeks, usually when my temps started to go up. When I was folding 24/7, it became a weekly chore! A drive door is a must as you would wind up with whiskers all around the drive openings without one. my case is pretty large for a mid-tower anyway as aside from the 7" difference in width, it's pretty close to the size of yours. A little better than 3 inches lower than yours, but almost the same depth. Hey, you like what you like for your reasons and I like what I like for mine. That's why they make so many different cases! LOL!! Nothing wrong with either of them!
Best Regards,
Russ

My case actually gets very little dust. Those fan filters you mentioned? Yeah the ENTIRE front panel is a mesh wire backed with foam dust filters. That is apart from any optical drives you might have there.
EDIT: This is VERY off-topic, but how does this sound?

Dear Microsoft:
Hello, my name is Abuzar Baloach and I really like your products. I really love the Xbox, and I've owned all your consoles from launch. I used to love my PS2, but when the Xbox came out the PS2 did not compare! I simply loved Halo, and I don't agree with people when they say Halo 2 sucked. It definitely was better. Sure it had the same old Halo, but thats what people loved! I got my Xbox 360 back when it first came out. Sure they games you were touting, like Perfect Dark Zero, sucked, but Call of Duty made it totally worth it. My friends have only beat me about 3 times at the game and are still afraid to play it, even now. My Xbox 360 managed to break down eleven times, but that is alright, you guys have had exceptional customer support. They even call me to make sure that my xbox is running smoothly. Windows XP pretty much has to be the greatest OS of all time as well. I've purchased and used all the Windows versions you have released and Windows 95, 98SE and XP are the ones that stand out the most. I've used Mac and Linux, and they both are horrible if you like games, even though Linux is a solid OS that needs a lot of finishing work.
I've been using Windows since I had my first computer. Now you guys have made some mistakes, like releasing Windows ME. Seriously who came up with a stupid idea like that? Windows 2000 was much better, even though it's highly insecure. Anyway I'm not writing this to bash your products. Although I have to say, Vista... What the heck?! Seriously, it was marketed as having VERY good support for games and then ended up either not supporting them or playing them horribly. No thanks, I think I will stick to XP, which I mentioned earlier as being one of the greatest OS' of all time. I have great faith in you and I hope that with future revisions you will make Vista worth having. I have already paid four-hundred dollars for the Ultimate edition so I expect some ?ultimate? extras as well.
Anyway you have produced some great products and I hope you will continue to do so. You brought computers to the masses and I thank you for that. You have kept me entertained with both the Xboxes and with the awesome library of games available on Windows XP. I have hope in you and I believe that by SP1 windows Vista will be everything you said it would be. Please continue doing the great job that you do. Sure you made some mistake, but everyone makes those. The important thing is that you made Many things are more than offset those mistakes.
Sincerely,
Abuzar Baloach.

I dunno, hopefully they will send me games. I Have to do it, it's Required. Notice the capital letters lol. I have to write about a company I like and a company I dislike. I'm not really a hateful person. I guess I could have written to Sony that they make the PS3 suck less, but I have one. I don't like making fun of stuff I own.

Of all the people to ask, you ask me, when I spell Microcrap, Micro$oft and Bill Gate$... well you get the idea! You would have been much better being honest and asking them why they give such cheap prices to Dell, Gateway, Compaq and other computer manufacturers instead giving us, the consumer a break, especially when they have a monopoly on the OS market. $199 seems a bit steep for an operating system that's been around for all the years XP has! Doesn't $ Bill have enough money yet? Poor boy must be down to his last 15 Billion! LOL!! I guess, what with the US Military spending as much money every day that it does, $ Bill must figure that there's just not enough left over for him!
Man, did you ever ask the wrong person. Micro$oft can kiss my A$$. It will snow in hell before they ever get another penny out of me. I tried being the good dedicated customer by buying every operating system Micro$oft has offered for the last 18 years or so, except ME (you have to draw the line somewhere). I spent a lot of money making them what them what they are today and never complained. When they tried to screw me out of money because I couldn't read the Key number because Dell stuck it to the side of the computer and it had gotten rubbed off by a shoe so you couldn't read it, they pretty much told me to go suck an egg! I wouldn't give them 1 red cent now! And I'll screw them every chance I get!
Do you honestly believe that your letter will mean anything to them? ROFLMAO
Here's what happens when you mean something to a company. I sent Maggie (the head of RMA at Gigabyte) an e-mail letting her know that my computer was working flawlessly and wishing her and her staff a Happy New Year!
Here's the response, sent first thing Wednesday (Jan. 2) Morning after the holiday!
Hello Russ,

I don't know much about normal Microsoft but the Xbox customer support is very nice. They even called me after a console got replaced to make sure everything was working fine. They sent me some extra controllers and games for the inconvenience it caused me.
Also I once I managed to get a activation key from them when I tried using a pirated Windows MCE that I had gotten back home. After the activation period ran out I just told them I mis-placed the box so they just gave me a key!

That's funny! LOL!! They all but told me to kiss their A$$! I supplied them with a copy the receipt for the OS, Ser.# and a scan of the physical CD itself, and they still insisted I would have to buy a new one! Henry Ford paid workers $5 a day to build inexpensive cars for the masses to put people on wheels. He made money doing it, but he didn't screw his customers, even when they were the only real game in town!
M$ can kiss my A$$! So can bill Gate$!

As far as Bill Gates goes I respect the man. He has given away more then 30 Billion dollars to charitable causes. Sure he may have lots of money buy giving away 30 Billion isn't easy. I wouldn't call him a bad human after all the help he has given to unfortunate people. The kind of people that live in horrible conditions. Most of you here come from Developed countries and haven't seen real poverty.
I've known many people that live either underneath the cart that they sell stuff on in the day or have FAMILIES living in cloth tents be happy and content because they know as far as poverty goes in Pakistan they are not a rock bottom. My damn country is so corrupt that old people who worked for the Government cant get their pensions because they cant afford to bribe the government officials. They are too proud to ask for money so they just starve to death. If they don't have money for food, they DEFINITELY don't have money for vaccines and stuff.
For people like that people like Bill Gates are important. He practically sparked a change in what rich people do with their money and made philanthropy popular.
EDIT: BTW I'm hoping that brown nosing letter pays off. My teacher mentioned people getting free stuff.
Russ, you got any more companies you hate? Maybe you can give me ideas? Asus maybe? *ducks right before NuckNFuts shoots me*

I've been to the Middle East a number of times and I've seen first hand what you are talking about, and I do sympathize with you on what you speak. No one should have to live like that! Did you also know that over 1 million American Children go to bed hungry every night because their family doesn't have enough food to feed them properly? All these rich people and that includes the high ups in our Government, have the power and the money to do something about it and they don't! Our Government is well on it's way to being as crooked as the people in power where you come from. All the legislation they pass is designed to cover the businessman's butt. If I write you a $1000 check and there is no money in the account or the account is a phony I will go to jail for a lot of years if I can't satisfy the check! I will be arrested! If a Business writes you a check for $1000 and there's no money in the bank, they won't even arrest them. It becomes a "Civil" matter and you have to pay a Lawyer and sue them! Whether you win or lose depends completely on how good your Lawyer is compared to theirs! Not right and wrong! I'm very glad to hear the Mr. Gates and his Wife have helped people that you know, but we have an old American saying. Charity begins at home! Thinking about those 1 million kids that go hungry every day, I think Mr. Gates should do something about that as well. maybe if he did, people here would appreciate him a bit more than they do.
By the way, Mr. gates did not spark a change in what rich people do with their money. Many good people here have done as much or more over the years. They just preferred to remain anonymous about it while Bill Gates and his Wife told the world, in a press conference! I will however take into account what he has done for your people and I will respect him personally for that from now on!
Best regards,
Russ

Now on topic. That case mod is the sickest shit I've ever seen. Seriously that's AWESOME. I didn't read the whole thread though, I just skipped to the last part lol. He must have put in so much time!

Hi everybody, got a chance to come back a minute, did read last several pages since my last post, really some intersting stuff, anyway, just to update, I did order the gateway, remember there was 4 I was intersted in, well 3 were all sold out but not the one I was really intersted in
www.globalcomputer.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2912738&Sku=G153-GM5259E
that one was still there, man those pc's go like hot cakes, I knew from past expericnce helping my neihgbor get one they do go fast, so in a way I was lucky the one I wanted was still there, and I know you guys are probably pissed at me for making that decision but for now its the best for my needs, the build I'm saving for the summer.
But I will tell you this, theo (russ) sent me the link for his recommendation, I really did like that set-up, my son who is going back to school in rochester tommorow, if I knew about all of yours and thoe's idea two weeks ago when he arrived for the holiday I would have definatly made an order than and probably for sure would have had all the parts before he had to leave, oh well aint gonna cry over it now, I'm already saving a lot of your idea's, actually have been for a while now, I could probably fill a cd from my favorites folder from all the stuff you guys have been posting for months, by the summer all those products might be outdated lol, will just start a new come summer if have to, regardless, thanks for all the info from everybody.
You guys mentioned Billy Gates there a while back, oh man dont even get me started about him.
I did check that bestcase site, wow, that was some unreal shit man, I mean this guy has to be MIT stuff, mechanical engineer etc. the outside build was mindboggling, but what I would have really like to see what was inside that pc, we old farts dont care much about the looks anymore lol, we care about durability, ease of use, etc.
Abuzar, I confirm, I to want a full tower and will, Lp531 after checking about that book on case modding, I found other books, e.g. I found computer modding for dummies that looked really intersting and will probably order it before I make an attempt for my build.
Greenman, you got it partner, I will be keeping in touch, and yes I learned a lot last couple of days.
When that gateway comes in, I'll let you guys know how it goes, if it was a good or bad decision. If on arrival if everything works I think I'll be ok, other wise, till summer time baby, watch out, lol.
