Well, I think we're all a bit baffled as to why you need a second system, but sure, why not? There's some decent stuff in there. One thought though, if that's an entirely separate PC, it'll need a graphics card.

Robert,
NO wish lists here Mr.!!!! There's a thread for that.... :P

Unless you sold your puter between last night and this morning I know you don't have the money... :P And don't say you got your stimulus check either, cause I knows your wife and you aren't getting away with it. hehehe. :P

Most of it looks good as sammy said but there are changes that I would make. :D

cpu - Q6700 ( for the same money, it's better than the E8500 to me... :P)

cooler - Zalman?? NO way over a TRUE or TRU!!!

ODD - I like the Pioneer but if you have some LS DVDs laying around get the 20A1L (same structure as the 20A1S but with LS capabilities)

mobo - GET an X48 DFI or ASUS!!!! NO messing around..... :P

case - Lexa is ok but if you want to stay with NZXT look at this link

I personally like the ZERO!! :) Almost bought that one myself but I finally woke up and lived with the CM RC-690.... :P

Heh, you forget, none of those are red... :P
I'm in accord with Gm on the CPU and CPU cooler though. The TRUE is much better than the Zalman.

ROB---That EX38-DS4 is still glitchy. The E stands for energy saver and you end up turning those features off to OC anyway!!! As much as I've tried to not hijack this thread in the past, I still have not figured out how to turn the clock control ON without going into a reboot loop let alone bumping the speed.
Simply setting the control from auto to manual causes this. Every memory test succeeded in whatever slots I used, I can manually set all voltages and memory timings in my BIOS but I cant even set the clock speed from auto to manual and leave it stock. I've read in Newegg reviews, and gigabyte forums at http://www.tweaktown.com about others having this same problem.
It has nothing to do with pressing Ctrl+F1, the power saver features (i have disabled), or enhanced Turbo settings (at standard) in the setup screen.
Also its memory slots are EXTREMELY close to the CPU socket many people have complained they cant use slot 1 with big aftermarket cooler therefore no 1 and 3 dual channel, but my Cooler master tx2 cleared barely!

Nice find Morty!! :)

Robert,
If it's a system for your DADDY then I would consider a LITTLE trade off of the E8400 and get the Q6700 for myself.... hehehe. NOT sneaky just smart. :D

In all honesty what is he gonna stick on that mobo?? If NO more than 2 HDD's and 2 ODD's then the P35-DS3L will work, that is a very solid inexpensive mobo. Even if he wants 4 HDD's, just use the IDE ODD's, they're good too you know. :P ... jm2c there....

Lot's of options on this build. You gotta find out what he wants and what it's gonna be used for then you can really build what he needs. Heck an E2200 or something like that might even work... :)

good luck buddy........ YOU'LL NEED IT..... hehehee. :P

This is odd - I have no issues with my X38-DS4 overclocking, and have four sticks of RAM beside a TRUE with plenty of room to spare... How did they get the E version so wrong?

your accent (maybe our lacking of one). just the way you pronounce your words. all british movies are hard for me to understand. not just that particular one.

Hehe, fair enough. Accents vary broadly depending on which part of the country you're from though, and although I'm sure that's also the case with the US, I find it difficult to identify people except for very broad regional differences.

sure, and I agree. yes we have different accents here as well depending on where you are from. we have southern accents but even they vary from state to state, northern accents and eastern accents (they almost don't pronounce they're r's). funny thing is, on national news or national programing, they talk just like me. I live in Kansas and I don't think we have any accent whatsoever.

I'm sure GM even talks different (southern accent) than I do being he is from Texas even though he is only about 300 miles away from me.

ok, sorry for getting off topic. I'm done.

I agree about the Q6600, it's "cheap" and GOOD!!! I've been eying the Q6700 tho... lol. Just can't seem to justify it tho.. GREAT cpu for the cash!!!

What's wrong with DDR3 RAM?? COST??? It's coming down as we speak... lol. It is getting cheaper but the good mobos out there that use it seem to be a little more than the standard/good mobos that use DDR2... at least from my observation...

I just don't see how DDR3 is much faster, and given the price tag it should be.

Sigh, who started the rumour mill up again?
http://neoseeker.com/news/8022-nvidia-99...ming-late-june/

Speculation hasn't been this broad and unpredictable since the 8800GTX. Both cards stand to be significantly faster than any single core card currently out there. While I've no doubts that nvidia can one-up themselves given the downturn of late, I'm a little dubious that AMD will release a single-core 9800GX2 beater at a circa £200 price tag, more than a little dubious in fact. Well, time will tell I suppose. The forecasted date for something to happen is late June...

GM, 4GB of DDR3 RAM is about three times as expensive. I can run that 4GB at 1066mhz(DDR2) at cas5 or 1333(DDR3) at cas7. It's not worth the price difference when performance is nearly identical.

Deadrum, why what's wrong?

abuzar,

deadrum will have to fill in the details but his mobo will not let him OC. it reboots or gives him BSOD when he tries to do even small OC. suprise suprise, it's a gigabyte. sorry that just wasn't right. I really do hope you get it straightened out deadrum.

mort.... xD

and Azubar, if you say that the CAS7 is worse than CAS4, then you might aswell use DDR400 CAS 1.5

as the speeds increase, the latencies do, but the rate of data transfered is much higher.

the data is Quad pumped on the DDR3s, so you get double the amount of data on the rising and falling side of the RAM clocks.

please dont post propaganda without facts. xD

thats why the FBS 1:1 MHz, for DDR2 was Half the rated speed, Vs 1/4 the CPU Quadpumped FBS, and nwo its 1/4 DDR3 to 1/4 FBS

so 1600MHz DDR3 is the effective of 400MHz (aka 800 MHz DDR2 / 400MHz DDR1) to the 1600 MHz FBS (effective of 400MHz FBS) so they are truely 1:1

DDR3 is worth it from 1600MHz, due to the datarate being much higher (even with its higher latencies) then 1066 DDR2
