DVDFab Decrypter is awesome. I've been using DVDFab Decrypter (the FREE ripper) for ages and it does an outstanding job -- it will rip any new released DVDs out there. It is simply the basic version of DVDFab Platinum.

Best of luck!!

I've had DVDFAB Platinum over two years, and have had great success with it. It copies scratched disks that I couldn't copy with other programs.
I would buy it again.

@catdaddy6

Since you asked me, I'll make it short on what I primarily used to rip, transcode (compress) and burn. However, keep in mind that my process of backing up DVDs varies depends on how big the original movie/DVD is running. In addition, all I want is "quality and longevity," yes that's me.

Backing up a "normal" DVD

<> DVDFab Decrypter or RipIt4Me - to rip into the hard drive
<> VobBlanker - to edit, blank/delete unwanted junks (FBI Warnings, useless previews, logos, etc.)
<> Nero Recode - to transcode
<> Nero Burning Rom or ImgBurn - to burn final VIDEO_TS folder

Backing up a 3 hrs DVD (King Kong, LOTR, SCARFACE, etc.)

<> DVDFab Decrypter or RipIt4Me - to rip into the hard drive
<> VobBlanker - to blank/delete all junks (FBI Warnings, useless previews, logos, etc.)
<> DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 - to encode via 3 PASSES
<> Nero Burning Rom or ImgBurn - to burn final VIDEO_TS folder

Honestly, I can't say "yes" or "no" simply because I haven't used it. However, if you're into DVD to IPOD, PSP or AVI backups, then it won't hurt to give it a try.

I believe it updates weekly just like AnyDVD to handle the latest protections out there, plus you get "FREE LIFETIME" upgrade so you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Below is a few "benefits" taken from DVDFab site, if you want more info you can go to it's site and look around DVDFab Platinum. The choice is yours.
Quote:
B. DVD to Mobile

1. 3 DVD to Mobile copy mode available: Generic, iPod and PSP. More devices support can be added manually.
2. Generic: Convert DVD title to PC MPEG-4/DivX/XVID/H.264 AVI/MP4 file.
3. iPod: Convert DVD title to Apple iPod MPEG-4/H.264 MP4 file.
4. PSP: Convert DVD title to Sony PSP MPEG-4/H.264 MP4 file.

C. Benefits

1. Remove all DVD copy protections, like CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs, ARccOS, RipGuard, FluxDVD, CORE X2, etc.
2. Constantly updated to support latest DVD copy protections.
3. Backup scratched/dirty disc:
* Even if some information (IFO) cannot be read, you can still copy Main Movie or Customize.
* Recovery from DVD reading (VOB) error.
4. Constantly updated to support latest DVD burners and blank DVD discs.
5. Constantly updated to support more mobile devices.
6. FREE lifetime upgrade.
7. FREE lifetime support via e-mail, worldwide.
