I currently have ripped about 4 vcd's to my computer and have all the folders. The files ar legal, no copyright or anything.
The folder which contains the movie, as you would know is in the MPEGAV folder and contains one .dat file which is the movie.
I want to burn these .dat files to a DVD. So that i have a few videos compiled into one DVD. Also I want the files to be able to be played in a standalone DVD player.
I am sure this is possible using Nero, but how do i do it?
Does it invlolve me having to convert the .dat files?
Thanks, Your help and support is much appreciated.
Nero Vision 4 > Make DVD > DVD Video > Add Video Files.
Select the .dat files (choose "any Files" so that they are visible).
A menu item will be created for each file.
Verify the menu simulation and burn at 4x.

Thanks Attar, but I have one small problem, I've got about 5 700-800mb files that need to be copied to dvd. But only three of them fit in using Nero Vision. What is wrong? Surely, the disc has much more capacity. around 5 700mb VCD files should only take up about 3.5GB, not the whole 4.7GB in the disc. I know that menu's n stuff take up some space but it shouldn't take that much space.
The size difference reflects the difference between VCD and DVD formats.
An approximate guide would be the running time of the each video.
Three hours of video should give average quality.
If you wish to add more and disregard Nero's warning, on the lower part of the window click 'More' > Video Options > DVD Video > Quality Settings.
Thanks for ur reply, but the thing is, that i don't want to lose any quality. Also I have another problem, I can't play any of the .dat files on windows media player nor on Nero showtime. What is wrong.
When trying using Nero, the video apperas fuzzy and you can't even see it properly.
What is wrong?
I have another idea, should i convert the dat files to AVI or something, that Nero recognises? if so, which converter should i use. I don't want to lose any quality. I tried googling it, but most of the sites are up to no good.
Windows Media Player should play it ok.
Either RC on the file and 'Open With'.
or change it from .dat to .mpg
Changing the format to AVI will only lose quality.Every conversion you lose more.
Unless there is a pressing need to get them all on one DVD, it would be better to leave them on CD.
Yes RC and rename. It will give you a message saying that you shouldn't, but it will let you change the extension.
My Windows Media Player opens my .dat files ok.
As long as the files are MPEG1 there should not be a problem.
Nero accepted them, right?
If you want to verify the file type, download and run 'GSpot'.
Drag a .dat file onto the window and it will tell you the Video and Audio type.
Should be MPEG-1 Video and MPEG-1 layer2 Audio
I have Nero 6.0.0.9 and I already copy the VCD file onto my hard drive. I load up Nero, selected Make DVD and click on the add button, I see the VCD files so I select it, but somehow when I click the add button or the finish button, nothing happen. The file never get to be added. Can anyone help me with this?
Am I doing something wrong or I got the wrong version of Nero? Thanks.
