They probably do overclock better in terms of thermal performance and stability due to their reduced fab process 45nm isn't it? My point is though that if you take a E6600 at 2.4ghz with a 9x multiplier and a E6750 at 2.66ghz with a 8x multiplier and run them both at 450mhz fsb the E6600 will run 4.05ghz whilst the E6750 will be at 3.6. Also, if you have not bought a top end m/b you may find that you can only achieve 425mhz fsb say, so you will reach the limitation of your m/b before you fully tax the chip much quicker with the E6750 as the starting fsb is so much higher. It's just my personal opinion, I'd prefer to have a 1066 chip as it is going to tax the chipset less and make the m/b last longer.

Q9550 @ 3.4Ghz-1.275v & TRUE, Asus P5N-T Deluxe, 4Gb Dominator 1066 (5-5-5-15), Inno3d OC 8800GTs in SLi with TT Duorbs, 580w 5.1 Setup, 2x DVD-RAM, 320&160Gb SATA2 HDDs, 17" 3ms Hyundai TFT, 700w Jeantech PSU.

What are you talking about? A GA-P35-DS3R can do 500FSB and it's only 130 bucks. The point is you will be hard pressed to take a E6600 to 4Ghz Unless you were to do a crazy vcore like 1.6v, which will burn out your chip in months. While with good memory the E6750 on 4Ghz is EASILY doable. Hell even with my crappy 800mhz memory I've done 3.83 Ghz on stock cooling with temps around to 35C mark.

the thing is the TDP of the E6X00 were higher than the E6X50s, IICR, and they cost MUCH less. no they arnt 45nm, still 65nm, but had a hiher FSB. and i doubt that the E6600 would always get to 4GHz. where nealry all E6750s get to 3.6 on a good mobo on air.

Ok let me just do a little bit more comparison. Shaf is right btw...

E6600= Hotter, less stable at higher tempratures
E6750= Cooler, able to withstand higer vcores, and because it can go to higher vcores without damage it can overclocke even better. Also like i said it's cooler so even at higer vcore it doesn't get hotter than the E6600.

Don't even get me started on the 45nm CPUs(the E6750 is still 65nm), they can almost do 4.6 Ghz!

he wrote back with this:

Dear waymon3x6,

not with the updated bios and i configured it to use sli mode in bios. Crysis Runs in dx10 60fps cons. with occasional drops to around 50 which is still the best out there. Havent tried out dx9 but im sure it would run pretty close on every setting maxed out. DX10 all crysis settings were set to HIGH which is pretty good if you ask me. Also Remember you have to have a good monitor to run crysis in dx10 at 60fps which is what is included in this auction. Anymore Questions let me know thanks.

The fps sound about right, but when I tested all high settings in DX10 I got 20fps flat with the Crysis bench tool @ 1900x1200.

Sam

Yeah, hah hah - I give myself Wednesdays to pull out my headphones and turn on my gaming rig - ALL DAY. By confining it to one day per week I'm trying to keep my HABIT under control, being the mad gamer that I am :)

Yeah, for under $200, I think, whenever Powercolor (or Saphire) come out with the AGP model, I am betting that the 3850 won't be the problem child that the gecube turned out to be - hehe all that ventilation to my case will be overkill - and the low power requirements will suit my weak allied 500 psu. I see on a lot of forums that everybody is saying the p4 3.2 will be the bottleneck, but that's okay. I should be able to jump at least a couple thousand 3d marks up from my measly 2260 (and all you guys over 10,000 - jeeeezz!!)

Mike (maccerM) yeah I know you were thinking I shouldn't get the apg, but you and Abuzar are great about selling off your parts, and me, I usually just keep my old computers and give them to somebody. So when I get the 3850 I'll put it in the p4 3.2 gaming highly-ventilated machine, then put the x850xtpe in my other p4 2.8 business machine, then put that 9800 in my other non-p4 (celeron) 2.4 ghz business rig. (although I buy on ebay, I have never put up an auction. :) Naw, I couldn't go 8800 because I'm a big ati fanboy right now - plus the waymon beach picture comparisons were cool. Although I do appreciate the extra fps your 8800 is getting you - I kept getting killed on battlefield 2 a couple days ago because I was lagging. Damn! You've got a good point - fps comes in handy!

Sam, I tried crysis with medium settings except for shadows and shaders but I had to slide back to low settings to get 20+ fps at 1280 x 1020. I guess I could cut the resolution, but this will hold me until the 3850 apg gets out.

Wow! 2 gigs ram for $34 after $40 rebate! That is cheap!! Thanks for the tip, core2kid!

So Ray, that ebay machine is over-rated? (Abuzar, the pics may show only 1 graphics card but he mentions sli and 2 cards in the feature list - and I see core found the second card under the green pipe.) I'm still pretty impressed, waymon, with that 20,000 3dmarks you pulled off on your $2k rig before you dropped back below 1.6 volts. I think you said you're holding steady above 14000 now, right? Maybe one day if I ever sell some houses I'll see what you would charge to build me a rig.

Anyway, your second post with his reply says the fps sound right at 1900 x 1200, but the crysis benchmark you ran gave you only 20 fps - that's with your 3870s in CF. So what are you saying, Ray? If he is correct, then how is he getting 50, and you're getting 20 - at least on the bench. Is your point that crysis doesn't yet support CF the way it supports SLI ?? Is that what's going on?

Sounds potentially plausible. Crysis doesn't take that well to crossfire right now, and the 8800GTX is a good 30% faster than the 3870 I'd reckon as a single card. Two 8800GTXs versus one 3870 (if we assume no benefit from crossfire) then is 160% performance difference, from 20 to 52...

Haha, not quite. A friend's on XtremeSystems. I asked him to do some benches, so maybe he will in a bit. Only with 1 3870x2, as 2 dont work in CF yet.

And he just got his 3870s like a couple months ago!

Someone's noticed I'm a Thermalright fanboy haha...
In all truth, I'd have no reservations about doing that. I'd probably not bother with the southbridge, but I'd be happy to cool the rest of my system that way.

And then from one extreme to the other lol. Extreme silence to extreme ear-bleeding. The HD3870X2 uses the same cooler as the 2900XT, and your friend wants to use two of them. Hope he's got good headphones, the MEI 29-blade fan is as near as you can get to a Delta fan in a stock cooling system.

Sam you know how you said MSI cards are so expensive? Why, are they better than the rest. I think so.

That's the cheapest 8800GT card I can find.

It has an MUCH better cooler than stock and it's overclocked. It's dual slot, I like that.

It doesn't exhaust out the case though, so it's not really much different.

I'm sure at least some air exhausts out the back. Seems like a good deal. Although the person who wanted to buy my PC backed out, so I'm kinda stuck here :(

Look at the way it's structured. If they intended air to come out the back I think they would have extended the structure to cover the extra half inch gap, don't you?
Unlucky about the PC sell...
If it's any consolation, my potential HD3870 buyer backed out as well.
