See my post from the 8th about using another program to do the .mov files. Nero doesn't always support them.

Or my viewer do you just need a player to play them on the pc and not convert & burn them?

Your best best is to go to Nero site and email customer with any questions or here's a link to buy the plug in you need - DVD-Video PlugIn.

Yep you'll still be able to burn - it's Vision that's lost it's functionality.
The latest version of Nero is still almost 200mb but that won't give you Vision again just a compatible version for Vista.

sometime back there were issues on serial #s does this help?
---------------
For the Nero retail version, the serial number is located on the back side of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in. For OEM version, the serial number is located on the back side of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in. For OEM bundles, such as Yamaha, TDK, Memorex, Lite-On, etc. you do not need a serial number, as it is embedded and will install automatically. After a successful installation, you can find your serial number located in your registry.
Follow the steps below in order to locate it:
1) Click on ´Start --> Run´ and type in ´REGEDIT´.
2) Click on ´OK´, which opens the Registry Editor.
3) Click on the folders ´HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> AHEAD --> Nero BURNING-ROM --> INFO´.
4) You will see your serial number on the right-hand side of the Registry Editor, with following name (related to the respective version you have): Serial4, Serial5 or Serial6
This entry looks as follows:
14xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 4)
15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 5)
1Axx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (for Nero 6 Ultra Edition)
Please note the number.

DivXtoDVD is now ConvertXtoDVD which isn't free.
DivXtoDVD was last updated in 2005 I think but it still does a good job.

Do you just want to play the mov files on the pc or do you want to play them in a dvd player?
If you want to play them in a dvd player then yes you would need to convert them 1st.
If you just want to watch them on the pc Quicktime well play them (they're quicktime videos) or I think VLC player (free) will play them - link.

For the serial # bit from Nero's site that just if you need to find the serial #.

For Nero 7 no it's in a different place in the registry.
1) Click on ´Start --> Run´ and type in ´REGEDIT´.
2) Click on ´OK´, which opens the Registry Editor.
3) Click on the folders ´HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> AHEAD --> Installation --> Nero 7 -->Info.
On the left hand side of the window it's to the right of Serial7.

Try DivX2DVD - it's free. You can burn with Nero.
I checked the latest version again and mov isn't listed under supported video files.

Thanks

the .mov is not supported by nero? It always played until the trial period deal came along "ended" ? Why will nero not play it now if i update, or are you referring to the other one? this gets more confusing?
thanks
if i pull out the serial #, what can i do with it or will the serial # appear being i did not have the cd? maybe we'll call it quits after this one?
thanks

Nero doesn't list .mov files as being supported so I can't say that any .mov you get will always be able to be played or converted w/ Nero.
The one that played before the trial expired should still play if you buy the plugin.

The serial # bit - that's just where you can find it. Like if you needed to do a clean install of Nero and needed to reenter it go there 1st and write it down.
When they have upgrades to software they offer discounts for licensed users - you would need your serial # or that. Like if you had Nero 6 and wanted to upgrade to Nero 7.

Hope this makes sense.

You think it will probably not do me any good to buy the plugin being the trial period expired?
thanks

No buying the plugin might be worth it if you'll be converting other file formats besides .mov like avi, wmv, dvr-ms etc.

How can i find out for sure, without laying out the $25.00 first, being it's vista involved? Is the serial # necessary, because i don't know if it's entered on my system, the builder did it.
thanks

what about these

Look in the registry in the path I posted above you're serial # will be there. But I don't think it's really necessary to buy the dvd plugin.
You'll get a serial for the plugin that you'll enter unlocking the trial period on Vision.

The links are just for a player not a converter- there are free players for mov like QuickTime so I definitely won't pay for one.

You can always try emailing Nero and see what their response is on mov files but I don't you'll get a very helpful response.

I have quick time but it ony works through easy share software, if i open the files up just on the drive, they have all kinds of black images in the display.

did you refer to the alternative quicktime 1.81 i think is the #, how does that display mov files, full page or the small screen like quick time has?

so how do i convert the .mov files to another format for dvd or pc viewing, what software do i need?
thanks

You can try the free DivXtoDVD to convert them then try using Nero or ImgBurn to burn them (see my previous post).

I just have the Quicktime player - but rarely use it.
Have you tried playing them in VLC or Windows Media player?

Mediaplayer does not recognize file type, Is DivX free yet, at this point i'm drawing a blank on VLC.

Thanks

it appears vlc is not for .mov format either?

Introduction & Requirements

ConvertXtoDVD - You need to purchase a license for this software to unlock it completely. Unregistered versions of the software add a watermark which slows down the process dramatically.

In this guide I will go through the steps of encoding an AVI file to DVD, including multiple audio streams and subtitles. I will also give you a tour of the Interface and show you how you can use the program to its fullest. So without any further delay, lets take a look at the customizable interface for ConvertXtoDVD but first, you might want to set the program to your language of choice. If your language of choice is english, then skip straight ahead to the Interface.

Use this link for the free one - http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm

When you convert a format to e dvd compliant it will increase in size. A DVD 4.7 g actually holds 4.38 gb.

Check out this link for what to play .mov files w/ - link

Do you have a recent burn log from Nero that you can post?
You might want to try switching the media - try Verbatim or made in Japan Sony or Fuji.
Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the disc.

You can download the quicktime alternative from afterdawn - QT Alt

I would say the downloads are pretty safe - I've never had a problem doing from here. To be sure run a virus scan on the downloads.

The burn log you ask about is a complete copy of .mov files etc? how do you want it posted so i can keep it private,?

i've used a couple different dvd blanks, and burned at half the speed, abve 3500 mb they fail.

av scans do not pick up the malware or spyware,?
thanks

Oops forgot about the Vista - use Media Player Classic - supports Vista - to play the files - Media Player Classic.

Yes anti virus programs also scan for spyware and the different 'threats'. Check the website of your to see if it does for sure.

For the log - be sure to edit on the serial number, your name if it's in the and you can scan the log and edit the name of the file your converting if you like.

Better news here, dropped a burn down to 6x and it did over 4.2 of 4.7, will try more another day,

the media classic, i was on major geeks site, and there were so many things there, what else has to be installed along with the media classic for vista home premium, there was another item to make it functional it seems?
thanks

It was Monday here alredy on your last post but not by much - 41 mins:)

Remember the disc will only hold 4.38gb not the 4.7 it says (short story different math - manufacturer vs. computer conversion)
Good to hear you're getting farther n the burn process!
Have you tried ImgBurn yet?

Here's where you can find the logs in Vista -link

You might need some codec installed for Media Classic (I haven't used Media Classic) I use and it's Vista compatible - ffdshow.

Hmmm for the zip software I like WinRAR but it doesn't like Vista.
Looks like WinZip may be your best bet since it is Vista compatible.

I'm sure there is somewhere - I'm just not familiar where all the stuff in Vista is.
Or are you talking about a restore point? In XP it under start>all programs>accessories>system tools - Vista may be similar.

Yes you can install the codec before or after you install Media Classic.
They will install in the proper place - they used for more then just viewing files w/ players - I installed them for Virtual Dub and for VLC.

You can install Media Classic then try playing the files - no sound, bad pic or won't play then download and install the codecs.
