Could you clarify your situation a bit?
Which bittorrent client are you using?
You say your downloads are not working, but your ratio is saying it is bad.
The ratio going bad should mean you are downloading but not uploading.
Please give a little more info on your problem.

If Azureus is what you're using, that is your Bittorrent client. The link I gave you shows how to enable Protocol Encryption within it. What firewall do you use, do you use a router? Azureus needs access through them. By the way, never used Azureus but understand it's a bit complicated for first timers.

When the packets download to you, your ISP can recognize them as torrents. Protocol Encryption is just a way of making them unrecognizable so they aren't blocked. May or may not help.

There is a problem.
Is your firewall off when testing?
What is your firewall make?
I know you mentioned no router, do you have a modem from your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
Sometines those modems come with firewall, like routers.

If you don't use a router and your firewall is off and you have tried many ports I would seriously lean towards your ISP causing this. You could try port 480 or 1720 that other processes use but I doubt that will help. Do you use Vista by any chance?

Nothing to be sorry about, none of us knows everything.
BT Broadband is on the Bad ISPs (UK) for a variety of reasons, including throttling.
But I think you still should be able to get a port open.
Do you know the make and model of the modem they gave you?
This may have be like a router in that you have to clear Azureus through it.
Also you should make an exception in the Windows Firewall as it is not that difficult.
If you have XP, this is a good guide: Portforward.com Windows XP Program Azureus.
Post back on the modem as I am suspecting that it is the issue.

I think I have read that BT throttles torrents, you might try after midnight and see if that makes any difference.

This had been going on since yesterday. It was random because everything was working fine for a few weeks, so i dont know what went wrong with it. If i wait till after mid night what should i do then, port and fire wall wise. My firewall that im aware of is off at the min.
Thanks.

As far as the modem, there should be some information on the modem itself.
Or you can check some of the documents you got.
From what I have seen in forums it might be a voyager, but I can't be certain about the model, although 205 has come up alot.
Mistycat is correct, it appears that BT is notorious for throttling bittorrent during day and evening.
After your port gets cleared, you should look into installing the speed scheduler plugin as you will probably get best speeds during the early AM.

I just saw your post about the modem acting up.
What has been the problem with it?
It is possible that your modem has gone bad.

Would the modem be the white box under my feet, where all the wires come out of? I really am a tard when it comes to this and I dont really know much about comps. So is it my BT thats blocking it? As I said it was fine at first and then just suddenly started. All the faces on my down loads are still yellow and its saying I have bad ratio and there is a firewall reachabillity problem. My firewall is still off, but I dont know if this is because I have not selected the correct port.
Thanks

That white box with the wires is probably the modem.
See if you can find some kind of name and number on it.
What BT is doing would not cause all the ports you have tried to be blocked.
It would slow down activity and they might block some of the lower ones below 10,000.

Re-Starting may help with whatever problem you were having before.
But I think you will need to clear Azureus through the BT Hub.
Try and see if this guide works: Portforward.com BT Hub & Azureus.
