Pioneer drive/burn issues

Hi guys, bit of a weird one here...
I have an internal Pioneer K14RA DVD RW drive on my laptop and up until last week I was burning DVD video discs all day long with no issues whatsoever until...
I started burning backup xbox 360 discs which my internal drive couldn't do because it wouldn't burn with the booktype as DVD-ROM as required for backups so after researching on forums I bought a separate Pioneer 112D drive to do this that I have fitted to an external enclosure hooked up to the laptop via a USB2 connection and that just burns the discs without me having to worry about setting the DVD-ROM booktype on DL media which is tried and tested and I can confirm as working.
Anyway... the problem I have now is that I normally use a program called convertxtodvd that converts my AVI's to VIDEO_TS files and burns them onto the discs for me and it does all this using my original K14RA drive that I have been able to do from day one and of which the drive should not have been affected. When I try burning discs both with that program and/or Nero, once the burn is complete they seem to be blank. When I go into "my computer" the drive icon refers to it as a DVD-ROM rather than DVD video, the file size is 0kb and I cannot write anything on the discs they're just coasters... I even went through the kiddies picture nero menu once to ensure it was set to DVD video!! This is just on normal 4.7 gig single layer media btw, the DL is solely for the 360.
My questions is... with both drives being pioneer and the 112D being plug and play my computer self installed the new 112D drive when it was plugged in. When it did this could it have affected the drivers for the K14RA drive and is maybe forcing it to burn all future discs as DVD-ROMs and thus f*cking up my DVD videos? When I click on the driver details they BOTH say:

This suggests to me that the installation of my 112D may have reinstalled new drivers for the K14RA drive which is causing me issues perhaps?
I want to use the 112D solely for xbox360 backups with the file type as DVD-ROM but use the internal K14RA for normal everyday audio CD/DVD video usage.
How can I do this?! I've tried burning VIDEO_TS files with both drives and with both of these programs and still no luck. They're all just coasters that come out as DVD-ROM's. If I need to, how can I revert the K14RA back to how it was previously without affecting the 112D? Or what else could it be?! please help =(

first off i dont think that using the external pioneer is messing up your internal drive.
What brand of dvd's are you using? format?
What speed are you burning at?
Whats you firmware for both drives?(you can find this with NeroInfoTool)

unless i am missing something i was under the impression the pioneer drive are not capable of booktyping(unless you use a buffalo firmware) is that the firmware you have for the external pioneer?

Erm the ones I were using were tesco 4.7 gig DVD + R's. Now I know they're nothing special and aren't the verbs of the media world but they dont even work on my laptop let alone DVD player once I've burnt them. they're rated at 8 speed and I was only burning at 2 speed. With the firmware... this means nothing to me but here goes:

quick update... its deffo not the media. It wont even burn normal CD-R's onto sony media that I've used thousands of times before. When burning these audio CD's let alone DVD's it cocks up. When the burn is complete it shows in my computer on the disc drive icon as an audio cd but the size is 0mb and it will not play in the laptop or a stereo but when you look at the underside of the cd next to a blank cd-r you can see something has been burned because of the colours of the dye but the disc is empty, im really struggling. I havent updated any drivers incase it reverts both drives to a state where I cannot backup my 360 discs... does anyone have any ideas?
