Hi I'm a frequent AD user but this is my first time posting here.

I have a 5.5 gen ipod video that I updated the music on yesterday and also Itunes prompted me to update the Ipod and that there was a new Itunes to download so I downloaded and updated them both and everything went fine.

Today my sister got a new Ipod classic for her birthday and I went to connect it to my computer to put my music library on it, and it came up saying the normal "connected do not remove" stuff, and then flicked on to the "disconnected you may now remove", I played around for a bit and couldn't get it to work, so looked for something on here tried everything you suggested and it did not work (Checked and changed USB ports, restarted comp an ipod, put into disk mode).

So I decided to test my ipod I updated yesterday this had the same problem.

I tested them both on an other computer and they both worked fine.

So I guess it a new compatibility problem with my Ipod and computer, Ive tried updating my USB drivers and reinstalled Itunes, I'm at a loss.

Can anyone help me or point me towards a guid or anything, I'm more than happy to answer questions or try any suggestios thanks allot.

well, it seem you tryed everything. i sugest, unistall itunes and reisntall it, then after itunes is reinstalled, set the ipod to disk mode yet again, connected to itunes and try it, another thing you can do, create a new user account on your computer, open itunes and add songs to it, then connect your ipod, if it reconise it, just sync it, and then when you connected to your itunes on your user name it will try to sync again. Good luck.
also this is a tutorial post it on apple site....

Just thought I'd post to see if any1 has any other ideas, I tried the tips posted by irongiant and unfortunately they didn't work.

I looked at the Ipod help pages and tried everything the suggested.

I went through the Microsoft website an found that removing some upper and lower values of the registry may correct the problem but it did not help.

Quite strangely the other day I decided to try my brothers 5th gen Ipod just for the sake of it and hay presto it worked fine synced with Itunes and was fine so I plugged mine in and it came up on the pc and in Itunes said there was a update available and I clicked download and install and then a error message appeared and my Ipod was gone from Itune and from my computer.

I sat and sobbed for a while as this was after about 6-7 hours sat in front of my PC trying to sort this out, must be something to do with the way the 5.5 and 6th gen Ipod classics's connect to the PC that is different to the 5th gen haven't got a clue what though.

I'd just like to thank irongiant for the reply and would like to know if anyone has any other Ideas other than reinstalling windows which is what I'm currently toying with, Thanks allot, I know it's a long one.

I've managed to sort it, for now.

Heres what I did, I thought it might have been a windows update as when uninstalling Itunes for the tenth time I noticed some windows updates had been installed the day it stopped working, I went a bit overkill and uninstalled allot of windows updates which look like it had killed my computer the first time I re-started it.

I restarted it again and everything came up as normal except for lots of new hardware found messages, plugged my Ipod in and it appeared thought sorted then it went again.

Plugged my Ipod back in and as soon as it appeared clicked restore, then I got a new error 1418, Googled it and found a fix for it from apple Here did this and I was able to restore my Ipod now it works a treat, "Touch Wood".

Thanks, Paul.

Just trying to decide whether or not to re-install the windows updates, as my computers running like a dog at the moment.

Edit
Reinstalled updates, Ipod is still working YAY.
