Burning suddenly takes forever

I have noticed within the past 3 weeks that it takes much longer to burn a disc than it took before. It used to take about 12-15 minutes to burn an entire disc to a single layer disc but now it takes about an hour. I have been using Sonic RecordNow for the most part and Imgburn every now and then. In Sonic RecordNow, it says it is burning at 1.0 to 1.8 speed which takes about an hour. Before, it would burn about 4-6 speed. It does this on all discs recently. I have not changed the media at all, same brand same speed same spindle, 16x. I checked the setting in RecordNow and it said "Burn speed max". It takes the same amount of time with Imgburn also. I defragmented my hard drive and it didn't make any difference with the burn time. BTW, this is my laptop I am talking about. When I use the same media in my desktop, it only takes about 12 minutes to burn. Any suggestions?

your drives are probably in PIO mode you need to get them back into DMA mode you can fix that in device manager by uninstalling the IDE controllers rebooting and let windows reinstall them or use this guide

@ ZoSoIV & iluvendo
Thank you so much for the great advice and the guide by alkohol! I checked and the primary "current transfer mode" was in PIO mode even though the "transfer mode" showed DMA if available. I followed the guide and it worked perfectly! I'm back to burning in 15 minutes. I'm used to helping others with their questions but I have never run into this problem before. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to the both of you.

I had an obsene system until someone stole my mazda truck and cleaned the stereo out of it. My truck was recovered minus the system. I never replaced it after that because the insurance wouldn't cover it. A loss of about $8500.00. I had a Pioneer deck with a 6 disc changer, Orion eq., Orion crossovers, 6 Orion 12" dual voice coil sub woofers, mids and tweets along with the old school (better amps) Orion amplifiers. I had 1 Orion 225 HCCA (high current class amplifier - red amp) for each pair of 12's. On the high end, I had an old school Orion 2150. I also had an Orion 250 HCCA which I would swap back and forth with the 2150 every now and then. I had more 225 HCCA's on standby for spares whenever I would blow an amp, I could just swap them out within a couple of minutes until I got around to getting it fixed. I still have 2 left which haven't been fired up in years. I miss the good old days!
