Hi, I'm trying to back up the above title. I rip it to the hard drive with no problems, then recode it with DVD 2 One, stripping it of subtitles, different audio options etc.
The problem is actually writing it, with Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
It seems to write ok, until it gets to the end, when I get the message below:

I know the file is getting on in size, but according to Nero, it will just about fit. I can't actually take anything else off the DVD, I've just left the main film, no subtitles, and just one audio stream (6ch AC3).
I would use DVD Shrink to compress the movie, but when I try to open the disk, it the program just locks up.

Any ideas?
Cheers.

Well the Problem seems that you do not have enough space left on the DVD to finalize it,I have had this Happen before with really big Image Files ,It seems that Nero over estimates the actual disk size and ends up not haveing enough space to finish the DVD....

Try using DVD Decrypter to rip the movie on to your harddrive first. Then use DVD Shrink (or DVD2One or whatever compression program you like) to compress the movie and make the filesize a little bit smaller, so that Nero will be able to finalize the disc.

You could also use ImgTool to create an image of the movie folder and burn this with DVD Decrypter, if Nero seems to give you a hard time. ;)

Thanks for the help guys, the disc has now burnt ok (I used DVD Shrink on the ripped copy of the film on the hard drive).

Problem is though, the disc won't playback! Argh!
I can't even get access to the disc, I get an error message saying that the drive is not accessible, and the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I'm pretty sure all other processes went ok, as I have managed to playback part of the ripped film from my computer.

Any ideas?
Thanks again.

There has to be some small detail you are missing, or something you checked or unchecked that u shouldn't have.

Most of the default settings on all this software can be used without any problems. If you tinkered with any of it at all, I'd look there for the problem.

When I did Pirates, I used DVD Decrypter in IFO mode and ripped the movie only. Then I used DVD2One to compress to the size of 4450mb. Then I burnt those output files with Nero 6 Ultra in DVD-Video mode. Make sure you are NOT burning a VIDEO_TS folder INTO the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero provides. That will render your DVD unplayable in yer standalone. Just drag the files that DVD2One created into that folder.

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

If the disc doesn't play back in your standalone dvd-player, that doesn't neccessarily mean that it's busted, but if it does not play back on your computer in the drive you burnt it in, then there is definitely something wrong.

If the disc doesn't play back in your computer, then try to play back the compressed movie from your harddrive, I mean the movie in the folder made by DVD Shrink, not the ripped movie folder made by DVD Decrypter. If the movie works there, you know it's your burning process...

If it is the burning process, try doing it again with Nero,
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burning_dvd_with_nero.cfm
or try the ImgTool & DVD Decrypter approach I mentioned earlier. Nero 6 has caused trouble to many people, just skim through the forums and you'll see. Lately I personally have been using only the ImgTool & DVD Decrypter combination and it has not failed me once, it's really simple to use and the programs are free.

Ok, I've trimmed down the file size yet again to make sure that it's not too big, using the new DVD Shrink 3.1.2, but when it comes to burning, it still doesn't work, gaaaah!
I've enclosed the error report that I get from the DVD Shrink burning process (it recoded OK).
Sorry for the long post!
Cheers.

This part looks really strange. What media are you using? Try a different kind of dvd-r media, maybe that'll help.
You could also make sure you have the latest firmware, if not, you could update that. Try also to burn in slower mode, not 4x.

On the other hand, you wouldn't be the first person to have difficulties with Nero 6. Make sure you have the latest updates from the http://www.nero.com website.

If it still does not work, then you could select the "write to folder" option in DVD Shrink and try the ImgTool DVDDecrypter combination to burn the files, it works for me every time.
You can download imgtool for free here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/imgtool_classic.cfm
Funny, it seems like I'm starting to repeat myself... ;)
Hope you get your problem fixed.

Ok, I've lost the battle against Nero - doesn't seem to want to work for me.

But guess what, I just tried the Imgtool and DVD Decrypter method you suggested, and it worked! Woohoo, my first (of many) backup!

Thanks for the help mate.

All that you need to back it up is To open DVD Shrink .After you analize the dvd...click on re-author
Now you need to drag the movie file(the longest one) up to the where it says new dvd. Then click backup .
If it is too large..then backup anyway.
Then use DVD2One to compress it and Nero to burn it. You will get an excellent backup every time

I ripped Pirates of the Caribbean to a folder on my hard drive using DVD Decrypter v3.1.9.0 then I used Pinnacle Instant Copy 8 "Main Movie" only feature to write it to a DVD-R. Since I started ripping and writing in that way, I have burned over 50 DVD-R's (using different type media such as ritek, princo, and maxell at different speed ratings 2x & 4x), and haven't created a coaster yet!

I'm having a similar problem. I used dvd decryp. to rip to hd. Then used DVD Shrink to make file smaller. The files on hard drive are playable using power dvd.
Then I use record now max to burn, but receive error code 89020003. it says disc may be damaged as to inhibit playback. Tried to reburn, but failed again. This process has worked before, but will not work in standalone dvd or pc. Just wondering if this is a media problem or some sort of copy right?????

Thanks for any responses.

hi concord,

The problem must be in your burning procedure or, as you said, in the media, since both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink remove all copy-protection and since the movie was still playable on your hd.

You might want to try the ImgTool & DVD Decrypter combination outline earlier in this thread, or even better you could try the ImgTool Burn utility (download it here http://users.evtek.fi/~samulib/SetupImgTool_1.1.1.exe)
which does both steps in one, it's really simple to use and it's free.

Hope you get your problem solved.

I have a question: Why do you have to use DVD2One after using Shrink? I used Re-author, dragged the movie file over, and clicked anylze, then back-up, and used Nero to burn. No other programs necessary.

Some movies are too large to just burn them...They will need to be shrunk down . (Hence, DVD2One

If you've got Nero 6 and Decrypter, just try using Recode 2 to shrink and burn. It's a great program and easy to use. For 'movie only' start in the Remake a DVD mode. Why bother with Shrink at all?

I have had no luck at all burning this disc.. DVD Shrink 3.1.5 can't get past the copyright protection.. So I tried DVD Decrypter to save a copy on my HD.. It has to use 'Brute Force' to crack it - which is fine until it gets towards the end of the disc..then I get the following message:

Brute Force Cracking Failed!

Device: [1:1:0]HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-4040b A302 (E:)

Reason: there were no vulnerable blocks..

I'd appreciate suggestions as to how I can get past the copyright protection so I can start shrinking it to fit on a DV-R? ie with DVD Shrink or Nero.

Read the guides again, there is no .DVD file. With Shrink or Nero Recode you simply get to the whole ripped folder, in this case it's called PIRATES_OF_THE_CARIBBEAN and click open. You will now be able to shrink the movie or disc to fit a blank. You will then use Record Now to burn to a blank.

I had no problems on Pirates with DVD Shrink. You can also try to open the movie first with PowerDVD (or another software DVD player), then fire up DVD Shrink leaving the player in the background open. Usually this helps Shrink to find the encryption keys.

Or you can rip the files to your hd with DVD Decrypter, then open DVD Shrink and select "open files" instead of "open disc" and select the files ripped with DVD Decrypter. Then proceed as usual.

Hope this helps.
