Would a P8400 2.26ghz laptop with a [b]9600M GT[b] outperform a T9300 2.5Ghz laptop with a [b]9500M GS/8600M GT[b] in terms of gaming??
EG - the HP compared to a ASUS M51???

Are you saying you would buy an asus with a 9500M GS over the HP with a 9600M GT???
Isn't the 9600 GT better than a 9500 GS????

What kind of graphics performance could I expect from a P8400 2.26 GHz, 3GB Ram, 9600M GT at resolutions of 1280x800 or 1074x760 in games like dirt, grid, crysis, bioshock, and assasins creed
PS- How much better is the 9600GT

Admirable. I'm not entirely sure of the answer to your second question, but playing all those games on mostly high settings at 1280x800 shouldn't be a problem.

Afraid not, I just can't justify the cost of one when I spent so much on my PC. My housemate Nick owns one though, a Dell XPS M1710, a couple of years old now, but still a powerful gaming machine. He's already had his graphics card replaced under warranty though.

PS- Lucky him, always wanted to get a 17" gaming powerhouse, but don't have the cash.

hehe yeah, back in 2006 it cost him about £1300 with the 3 year warranty. His GPU was indeed faulty, this spring the screen went white with random smears all over it, a guy came round to our house and popped a new GPU in there, right as rain...

PS - What do you think of ROCK laptops, I saw some awesome ones when I was in the UK for a holiday in july BUT sadly no warranty here so the were out of the question.

Just an update.
After posting at a laptop specific forum, they told me that the Acer 9600 has GDDR3 memory while the HP 9600 has DDR2.
I will check this tomorrow at the store and if this is the case I will probably go with the ACER.
Here are some benchmarks of both:

So in that case it would be better to go with the acer if it has GDDR3, even if it is more expensive as it will give better performance, and probably last a little longer
PS - Will the program GPU-Z tell me the type of graphics memory the GPU has??? thanks

It should do. I'm torn between the HP and Acer, because although the Acer will be faster, I trust HP more as a brand, even with the issues their laptops have had in the past.

I was thinking along the same lines, but after calling up the store and asking about the warranties, I have found out that both laptops are covered by the store selling them (jarir bookstore), not manufacturer's and I have had no problems with them in the past. In light of this don't you think I should go with acer due to better performance even thought its pricier????
PS - They replaced 3 external hard drives for me under the warranty, beacuse the mobos were faulty. I dropped the first one, but didn't tell them still got replacement :P
