Hi Everyone,

On my Win XP Pro SP3 computer , I have a Samsung DVD-Rom SD-616T drive, with the latest firmware :F310 . My problem is that recently, the drive
won't read DVDs, but it will read Cd's just fine. But the drive will go back and forth between reading DVDs or not. Right now it won't read DVDs at all.
I looked in computer management/event viewer/system , and saw about 16 of these errors :

Now my question is , what is causing a bad block of memory ? And how can that problem be fixed ?

This is a very old DVD-ROM.
For 25 bucks you can replace it with a new DVD burner.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I bought one a month ago and it's the best I've used.

Yes, i love my Litey. It burns nice and quiet, booktypes easily, and it cost me all of $30.00. No complaints here either.

Thanks for your replies.I bought a new Maxell DVD Optical lens cleaner, ran it and now the drive is reading disks again.I had a older drive cleaner but it looks like it no longer works.
But your correct about the drive being old, and I will have to replace it sometime .I guess I'm trying to get more miles on the old drive.

That cleaner disc was probably half the cost of the cheap Lite-ons out there.

Note this is for comparison, I bought this drive and I'm not impressed.

I bought this Liteon drive (at a local electronics store):

Item model number: DH-20A4H-08

http://www.amazon.com/Lite-On-DH-20A4H-0...5A74GM822YQEQPA

Paid more money...got more machine. Best I ever had. Quiet, fast, smooth, and dependable.

No wonder. You can't buy a decent pizza for twenty bucks.
