How about we now allow the thread get back to Bolt....

I redid it and skipped the VOB cleanup and went right to DVD Shrink. Voila!!!
I tried what I think you are describing, but couldn't get it to work -- I ended up with VOBs that don't play with sound.

Poking around, PowerDVD reports that the Title that plays is 29, and that seems to point to VTS6. But before I got to follow that lead up, I found that taking those "silent" VOBs and asking IFOEDIT to create new IFOs seems to work...

Hi:

I use AnyDVD with DVDNextCopy Ultimate edition OR IdealDVDCopy to back up my DVD's; we made backups of our home family video and picture slide shows synced with music for our family for gifts and our purchased DVD's (for personal use only). I didn't try AnyDVD w/ DVDNextCopy to backup Bolt, but I have read a lot of forum discussions regarding problems doing so.

IdealDVDCopy is the easiest "dumbed down" backup software I've seen ($35-$39.00 or something). The first backup of Bolt put the video files out of order so we were lost trying to watch it any my 5YO got mad at me. :-) Turns out there was an upgrade just this month April '09; free upgrades for life. I upgraded, backed up the DVD again, and we watched it tonight just fine. My wife and the boys were happy. You might try it out; it's cheap and really easy to use (my wife even uses it by herself). The only issue (not a big issue) or question I have now is why do we see some type of video camera icon on the top right hand of the screen when viewing the backup? We thought it might have something to do with the black screen breaks between actual video (with viewable picture if that makes sense). I'm not sure if its on the DVD itself or just something my TV or HDDVD Toshiba players is displaying.

Let me know if you figure that one out.

I just updated my AnyDVD to the latest version, and installed the latest version of ImgBurn from this website. I was able to back-up my Bolt DVD to a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc on the first try, using all the default settings. I should also mention that my burner is pretty old. Its a NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A.

I've used -shrink, decryptr, and Magic dvd copy to backup my dvds since 2005 as protection methods have changed. I tried idealdvdcopy.com and as Donald 411 claims ... it does work on my vista sys just fine. I also backed -up new Bond and Seven pounds with no issues. So - use and try eveythingesle if you want, but this works. No I don't work for them either ..

AS of this date 5-09-2009 bolt and others have no iocn in the upper right corner, no skips or pix issues and the movie plays great in frame on my 65 inch big screen. I used the main movie option with the software, backed up and burn all three without ever restarting the software... I just kept loading disks... never had a hang, lock up or problem...

Done

For the newbie, if I use a program like IdealDVDCopy how do I get it to reduce the size to ~4gb so I can play it on my PS3?

Thanks,

First never heard of your program there, your not spamming are you? Second, it doesn't have to be less than 4GB to play it, only to save it to the HDD of the PS3.

Done bolt back up on "main movie" only selecting first angle with dvdfabhddecrypter. result looked ok but the chapters are scrambled, the end appears in the middle and the middle becomes the end.
at first glance all seemed ok- maybe i will try the full disc to see how it goes.

Lifes too short for agro, respect and enjoy.

Use dvdfab HD decrypter to rip the movie (freeware).

Vobblanker to process the files.

Dvd shrink or dvd rebuilder to compress the files.

Imgburn to burn your movies.

Ferquj1,

No, I am a true newbie; I have a PS3 and the recoded media has to be less than 4gb to put on a hard drive (PS3 only accepts FAT32 formatted drives and FAT32 only accepts files up to 4gb on external drives.

When I have tried to rip the movie I have no problem but I can not get it to play in the correct order (same issue as others have stated). I am not trying to mention any software for any other reason than others have said they were able to get the movie ripped and copied correctly. As for me, I do not want to copy it to a disk, I just want to take it from my physical disk and put it on my hard drive to be stored on my external hard drive with all of our other movies.

I did find a thread that uses DVD43 to rip and then copy that with HandBrake and it gives me a great image at about 1.5 to 2.5 gb per movie but Bolt comes up mixed and out of order so I need to rip it with a program that allows you to determine the files you want (DVD43 does not do that). If someone can tell me what files to keep after using something like AnyDVD or DVD Copy that would be great.

Dvd43 is not a good program to use....it does tend to make good kindling, tho.

Use dvdfab HD Decrypter (freeware) to rip your movies. Select "Main Movie Only" and it will rip your movie from the disk.
