stop dl movies from torrent and either direct download them or dl them from IRC if you dl from torrents you gonna get caught plain and simple don't set yourselves in that trap espically if you in the UsA.

Or on the other hand complain to your isp that you have done nothing wrong and tell them disassociate any info about what and when you dl to from 3rd parties. because you isp is supposed to protect you unless you dling child porn or terrorism "stuff" this is harassment id just complain to my isp about it prob solved

quit using p2p/bt for your downloads. the way I see it, you are asking for trouble.... use newsgroups (usenet) I have never heard of anybody ever getting notified of abuse that uses newsgroups. you never see riaa/mgm/music industry/movie industry taking anybody to court for newsgroup activities. only p2p/bt users

my 2 cents :)

Edit: cox and most isp's have news servers that you are already paying for....might as well use them. if not, search for "free news server list" and find free ones if you can't afford to pay for a quality one. most pay servers are unlimited d/l for like $15 a month with unlimited speed..

Sorry to hear you were pounded on, looks like you have two options.

1) feed them crap on how you own the licences to what your downloading and to never bother you again.

2) move ISP.

i have to laugh, i started reading this thread as it seemed interesting ,then half way through i thought chrizt this seems familar, sum dummy thinking peer guardian solves all his/her problems, then i realise its 3 yrs old, and i wonder what legimate reason could there be for restarting a thread so old/outdated, the answer is of course nothing ! nothing new at all to be learned

You mean you got a letter 3yrs ago, you did not stop downloading, and you got another one 3 yrs later? Could you please give a bit more details..

Someone I know has recently received a similar letter.
From bayTS to Cablevision/Optimum Online, and they sent it with with attachement to someone I know, it was in real mail, not in e-mail. It was for an animated movie Baytsp wrote that on behalf of paramount pictures.

Basically, this happens to people who just downloads one or two things once in a blue moon, and they get caught.. It seems like people who continuously downloads stuff never get caught! Strange..

thanks for your response.
We were pretty shook up with the letter. It is indeed scary.
Oh, and I don't think it will make any different to switch providers.

ISPs will still keep logs of which IP was assigned to which MAC/Customer.
Then if they get a letter from baytsp or music industry they will still warn you. It is a good way to reset your points to zero. Since ISP thinks it is your first warning, and since baytsp or someone else thinks you are someone else. But not a way to escape anything. Best way to escape is to stop downloading illegal stuff off p2p.

i mostly download games. i dont d load that much movies. i got caught because i was using a public tracker. most of the time i used private trackers with peergaurdian but somehow that day i forgot to turn on .and for movies if i really want them i can get blockbuster membership rent and copy those movies thats easier i think

I think it makes no difference what type of copyrighted material it is. There have been several reports that companies went after software downloaders as well.

kateman, it is not the software spying on anyone.
It is a company, BayTSP. They are monitoring p2p activity, as per their press release they cover %100 of eMule and Bittorent transfers and monitor them.
Based on what's being transmitted, they ping the ip, find out who is the lease holder (ISP) of that IP and send a letter to that ISP. In order, that ISP looks through their logs and finds whom the IP was leased to (if DHCP) or who is the holder of that static IP at that given date in that letter.

And finally they attach the letter from BayTSP and write their own, send it to the customer with warning.

Unless you are using multiple proxies, it is difficult to hide from this method, and best way to get out of it is not to download any copyrighted material.

You know what, from all I have been reading at various sites, I have never seen anyone getting a letter from verizon.. This is strange. It could be due to two things...
A) Verizon does not keep track of their IP lease log sheets
B) Verizon receives the letter but just too lazy to send a message to anyone.

THESE ARE ONLY POSSIBILITIES, UNLESS someone comes up and says he got a letter from Verizon, when and due to what.
