Seems as far as they can and with having the financial means to do it they will keep going until the end. I don't think they want what happened to the PSP happen to the PS3.I'm surprised that they are this aggressive about this.

You take 1 dev out and 5 pop up. Sony has a long road ahead of them.

Very simple what Sony is trying to do here. To me it looks like they are almost trying to separate the big fish from the small,Geo and Failoverfl0W being 2 of the bigger fishes temporarily out. Basically 2 things may happen here. Sony will try and sue everyone that is hacking the PS3 and get either some that will totally stop due to financially its not worth their time nor they have the financial backing to fight back and you have the ones the will fight back tooth and nail.It may get rid of some hackers and that may be good enough for Sony.To the ones that are expected to fight back, Sony is basically sending a message that they are in this for the long haul and we have the financial means to do so.
It will be interesting to follow this.

Theyre ruffling feathers alright. I give respect to Geo for actually getting a lawyer and defending himself. Maybe he'll end up counter-suing and make up for some of his lawyer fees. At the end of the day, theres always going to be other developers as talented as all the geohotz and the kmeaw's that'll be willing to step up to the plate. But these fu**ers at $ony are playing hardball lemme tell you!

well i repair consoles and sell them,i was fixing more 360s because thats all what people where interested in,yes it was because of the firmware hack, there are people out there like me who do buy the games, and now i get asked at least 5 times a day do you have any ps3s for sale, i seen a show on tv on games development, after watching that show i now know how much time and effort it takes to make a game,so i respect the developers and will buy there product, providing its worth buying, but at the same time if im going to spend between $60-$80 per game,i think i have the right to do as i please with the game, and i was one of the ones that spent $699.00 on the launch 60gig,thats money that i worked hard for,so if i buy a car from GM,i decide "MODIFY" the engine to get more horsepower and be faster,so your saying that GM has right to say no you cant,we own the software to run your car,you cant do that,PLEASE,enough allready,i bought,i paid in full, its mine to do as i please, and if i sell the car modifyed GM is going to come after me for selling it like that??,when is this going to end, good luck sony, your going to need it,i think they should better spend the money on improving the ps3,

You hit the nail on the head coorva. We have the right to do whatever we please with something we purchased. The problem is that $ony assumes we dont buy our games and we just download everything. Our images have been tainted by pirates that do that. Bastards, makes me wanna just stop paying 60 bucks each time a game launches from those punks. But ive been buying games since NES and i dont plan on stopping unless these pricks keep on with the bullying. But im with you man, if i wanna put some goddamn body kits and tints and turbo in my ride, ima go do that, with no shame!

I absolutely 100% agree with you. I don't mind Sony fighting piracy but there is nothing wrong with modding your own property. Sony shouldn't have included OtherOS in the first place but they did and now they deserve the repercussions.

Actually, we are not so much tainted by pirates, but by the perception of piracy created by Sony. When you hear, "Windows PC", do you immediately think that it is being used for piracy? Why not? After all, it is way easier to pirate software on a windows PC than it is to do it on a jailbroken PS3. Most everyone who owns a PS3 bought before there was a route to piracy; other than a few people who are now pirating just to spite sony, most of these original users are not pirates; if they were pirates, they would not be on the PS3.

well im not a pirate nor do i believe in it,i have no intention of uploading any of my games to the net,i just want to backup my games and save them from wear and tear, and save my laser, just to get sony to do a simple upgrade so i can install to the harddrive and play from it,with the games disc to activate it i guess its to much for them,so ill hack it to have this option,

I found a use for jailbreaking people usually don't talk about...game repair. Since Bethesda refuses to release a patch for Fallout NV that actually works (and the last patch broke more than it fixed), I started playing with the game files a few weeks ago, and I now have Fallout NV running almost reliably. I am still dealing with a game engine that is written very poorly, and it is still a small miracle to go an entire hour without the game crashing, but crashes are way down (I now go as long as 10 minutes between saves sometimes), and some of the game-breaking glitches are now fixed (like the glitch that prevents you from completing the Legion story line if you go on a killing spree at the hoover dam before Caesar asks you to).

Unfortunately, most of the tools required to modify the files require you to have the PC version of Fallout 3 installed; and I only have the PS3 version...so I am doing little more than hacking together a bunch of PC fixes, and using the built-in DLC handler to load them. I might have to pirate the PC version...although it isn't really piracy to get the PC version if I already own the PS3 version that costs more IMHO.

your modifing the files, thats a big no no,what they want you to do is to go out and keep buying the game until your bank account is mt and then they will send you a fix,but to modify the files to make your game play right so you can enjoy it,cant have that,

That really pisses me off...sony keeps getting 3-month delays every time they request one on the OtherOS case, but they request something go a bit faster on a case where they are suing the public, and it gets bumped up to the next morning?!?!

I'm sure that they don't mind. I imagine the lawyer fees that they are paying for is chump change to them.

Free online play and the fact that you don't need to pay $60/year just for the privilege to have netflix and a great line up of first party games for 2011?
