I've never played a direct rip before but have you tried using a different media player such as Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra or Medi Player Classic, this may resolve the noise issue, if it is not a bad rip.
As for ripping the menu, a more experienced user will have to answer you there mate. Have a look through the list of programs on the first page of the Complete blu-ray back up thread. There should be one there.

I have hit a problem in re-encoding my .mkv files. I have been using ripbot264 to change the resolution of my files to 720p and exporting them to Blu-ray format so as to burn on a DVD-R.
But I tried loading Pulp Fiction which is 1920 by 816p for re-encoding but it wouldn't let me as it said that it wasn't a valid DTS file. Even if I did manage to laod it into the program, there is no option to change the resolution to a size of 1080p anyway.
Can someone tell me a better method/program to use??
I have tried MeGUI but that crashed when I tried to open an .mkv file and Super takes days to re-encode. Is there a plugin or add-on that allows tsMuxeR to re-encode video resolution???

MeGUI/AviSynth would be your best bet. Do you have Haali Media Splitter, FFDSHOW, and CCCP installed? Without those programs AviSynth might not run properly. At what point does MeGUI crash on you, does it give you an error message?

I just did a AVCHD(Blu-Ray dvd-9) & for some reason my picture came out really pixel with all different colors of pixels & sometimes my picture would go white for about a few seconds do you know what can be causing this? This is only the second time this happen.The last time was a month ago.Thxs

I installed all of these programs and it still crashes, I've tried running it in XP compatibity, re-installing the program, run as an administrator and have installed all updates. It crashes when I go to File>Open and try to open an .mkv file simply saying 'this program has stopped working, windows is lookinf for a solution...'.
It also mentioned something about certain profiles could not be installed but I doubt that's it, as it still didn;t work after several re-installs.
Is there any other software I could use to re-encode .mkv resolutions???

Are you trying o load your mkv in the AVS Script Creator, or the main MeGUI window?

I've tried both and it crashes with the both of them, however it opens when I use the Muxer tool. Do I need to install Ryu's profile first or change any settings?? I've been looking into using scripts and previous threads on the subject and I'm totally puzzled by this program.
I did however just install TMPGEnc 4 Xpress which looks like a decent video encoder it has the ability to output to Blu-ray, however I could't find a way to change to AVC level to 4.1 before output and the file size was estimated to be huge. It also has the ability to output to MPEG-4 AVC if that's compatible???
Oh and do I even need to change the resolution from 816p to 1080p before converting to Blu-ray if I'm playing in a standard Blu-ray player??

I just want to say thanks to the people who contributed to this thread. I've been reading through it (as well as the PS3 compatibility thread) over the past week or so, and I've learned a lot. I have run into a snag so I will try to provide all of the information that odin, Ryu et al will need.
I have a couple of videos (mkv, x264-720p, ac3) that I need to reencode. I had the problem of audio but no video on my PS3 (I stream m2ts files renamed to mpg extensions over Windows Media Player, or sometimes Tversity), and MediaInfoRaw revealed that it had too many ref frames and bframes to be PS3 compatible (as Ryu said in a previous post).
I was trying to use MeGUI, and downloaded version 0.3.0. However when I start it up, I get an error message that says:
MeGUI encountered a fatal error and may not be able to proceed. Reason: startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
...and it gets a lot longer from there. Once I click Ok, it will actually start up fine, but when I click "Start" after queueing up my script and what not, it just says error in the Status column of the Queue tab.
To work around this, I downloaded a file that Ryu posted some time ago that had MeGUI (v0.2.6.1046) with all of his profiles and plugins already included. I ran the program from the .exe (no install seemed to be required) and updated through Options->Update. I created the AVS script, started the encode, and everything seemed to be working fine. However, the resulting encode (output as RAWAVC, then muxed with TSMuxer) looked terrible. The video looks like a bunch of gibberish colored lines and pixels, with occasional hints of what the original video looked like. I looked at the .264 raw file in VLC, muxed into mkv and m2ts and they all looked the same in VLC.
So at this point I am feeling stuck. I used TSMuxer to cut a 2 minute piece of the file to try experimenting with different profiles (Ryu's, the PS3/Xbox profiles etc) still with no luck. I can't seem to be able to get a successful video reencode.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
(forgot to mention that I am running Vista, I do have Haali Media Splitter, CCCP installed, etc.)

I agree mchmalone. This site is awesome! I really have learned a lot as well. I am a new member...just signed up today actually. :) So, to keep it all on topic....I have a problem.
I have an MKV file and the video is H264, the audio was DTS but I used Eac3to to change it to AC3. It was converted successfully. I tried changing it using tsMuxer and used the AC3 audio but when I burned the disc and played it on my PS3 it was not in sync. :( How can I fix this? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

I cannot say for sure, maybe a bad source file or bad rip.

This is in the right section, right?
Try removing the Pulldown, tsMuxeR can do this. Load your file, check the "Change FPS", check "Remove Pulldown".

Can you read the file with MediaInfoRaw, and post it here. Are you doing anything in your AVS script that is unneccesary? If all you need to do is recode for shrinking/compatibility there should be nothing extra included.

I don't think I did anything unnecessary in my script. I did not want to resize, I was only recoding for PS3 compatibility. In fact, here's is what my script said:

I also wanted to note that I have tried this on two different video files with the same results. So it's not just a funky unencodable file, it seems to be something I'm doing wrong in the encoding process.

Yeah, there doesn't look like anything strange there. Two pieces of advice I can offer.
1. Keep the file name simple and short.
2. Up until a few months ago I could recode mkv's fine, then I think after I updated my MeGUI version they would encode at a rediculously fast rate and the output would be extremely compressed. My work-around to that was remux the mkv to m2ts using tsMuxeR... worked like a charm. Maybe try that, recode a m2ts file instead of the mkv.

Your problem was most likely blu-ray @ 29.977 fps, either change the FPS or play as m2ts.

Mux to m2ts, not ts. Load the m2ts file in MeGUI instead of the mkv.

Ok I tried starting out with a m2ts instead of a mkv in MeGUI. Same result!
I'm totally stumped, and this is getting really frustrating. I can't figure out why I can't get a new encode to work.

No, I'm trying to reencode a video stream to be compatible with PS3. Your framerate issue I believe is unrelated.
When you mux to m2ts do you get the same issue?
