It think nitendo is doing a great thing with the ability to run homebrew progs. This will be a great community thing. You will be able to download and make games pretty much like you can on a comp. I think they will do this through the Sd card slot. And how they're making their entire library of NES,SNES and N64 games availible to anyone who has a revolution. It think they are going in the right direction.
Oh yeah, and the Revolution will be a beast for emulation with its SD card slot!

My thoughts on it are that I'll probably buy it first and enjoy that while i wait for the cost of the PS3 to come down to something that a normal person would actually be willing to pay. I don't know about anyone else, but i have bills to pay! LOL.
Another thought i have on it is that I hope they don't try to charge a free for the retro roms that it will be able to play. It would be pointless, IMO. I think it would be a HUGE perk to be able to download those for free. A real way to tap into a market of people besides kids. A market of adults who would love to play those oldies but goodies.

i was just lookin around nintendos web site and they mention nothing on the older games being free. i really doubt they will be free. Can you give me a link to an OFFICIAL statement stating that they will be free. prior to this i had no intention on buying the revolution but if those games will be free than i think i might.
but still i really dont think that they'll be free...

for nostalgic purpose mostly.
although, there are just some of those all time classic, no matter how old they are you'd still play em.

no, but the XBOX and PS2 can (GC can't), and most certainly once the new gen of console are hacked, they too will be able to play oldskool games.
please don't mistake me for a nintendo basher. i like nintendo, i actually like the GameCube, don't own cause i'm no the rich type who can afford multiple console.

I agree. The only reason I bought GC was to play Zelda. And my GF likes it even though she never plays it. The roms on the Revolution will be cool as hell though. It's just not the same playing them on your computer.

regarding whether older games will be free or not. According to this article and statement from Ninty's makers, older game downloads wont be free:
'We have no plans to distribute without charge' says Iwata
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has nullified previous suggestions from the company that its 221-strong back catalogue of first-party classics will be both immediately accessible and downloadable for free on to Revolution.
Speaking at a business strategy conference yesterday, Iwata said, "There are rumours floating on the internet that the Virtual Console will be available for play for free, but we have no plans to distribute [the games] without charge.
"We believe that there are a number of ways that we can use the system," Iwata revealed, expressing a clear intention to use the back catalogue for more than just freebies to loyal customers.
"[We could] offer a bonus download with the purchase of a new game, or allow some games to be downloaded during a limited time during a campaign period," he continued.
For many, this clarification will come as a major blow. Previous thought that back-catalogue games would be free has recently given a massive boost to Revolution's desirability, despite the console having little to shout about compared to its next-gen contemporaries.
Offering all of its previous NES, SNES and N64 releases for free would give Nintendo a massive advantage in quickly building a substantial user base. However, with the company looking to use the titles as incentives to sell software rather than hardware, gamers are now, yet again, waiting for a reason to buy the console.

Sometimes it seems like Nintendo is trying to sabatoge itself. Eliminating what may be it's strongest selling point.

O course they wouldn't be free because of things like bandwidth charges and it would contradict about downloading roms you don't actually own being legal. But who would actually pay for them except noobs when you could get it for free and transfer it to the sd card.

the last couple of posts will be giving Nintendo the idea to move away from that type of Rom and making their own software/program to run the Nintendo roms. I don't really care that you have to pay for them cause I'd rather just play old NES, SNES and N64 games right on my TV not sitting here in front of the computer (although some games are ment to be played on the PC). Anyways who cares if you don't like the idea, doesn't mean you have to buy the damn console or the games anyway.

im not putting their plan down, i think its a good idea on their part. you got to keep in mind that some ppl dont even know how to d/l certin things off the internet and they would be more than willing to pay a small fee for those classic games.

I'll just be waiting for the hack/mod/exploit to come along. To me it's like buying water. Why do it when you can get it for free?

i wudnt mind paying like £5 for each classic game e.g. zelda (n64), super mario kart (snes+n64), street fighter turbo 2 (snes). I really dont see the big deal, but if they price them too high then I may have to re-consider buying them or using emu's though.
