Thoughts? (No fanboyism from either side required)
Is this real? Not even kidding I can't tell. Is that just a very well worded joke article or what? A name like semiaccurate.com makes me wary...
If it's real wow. Epic fail. Explains why we haven't seen a working prototype yet :P

That's what I'm thinking. It's way too subtle if it is a joke, and all of the history in the article is genuine. Nothing seems out of the ordinary with it. As the article says, the GTX285 and GTX275 are disappearing fast, the GTX260 is the only one of the three still available from more than a couple of brands.

Well, it's a bit odd... Didn't BFG only bring out a new GTX295 card at the end of last month? Surely they'd know if nVidia were going to stop production o.o

The GTX295 hasn't 'officially' been culled like the 260/275/285 but it may only be a matter of time. The new GTX295 architecture isn't THAT new.

Wow that is shocking. Aren't ATi still producing 4870s and they're on the verge of releasing a bunch of new hardware at the same time.

Nah, the 4870 has been pulled from production. They just made so many there are still plenty around (in the US at least). The HD4890 will remain in production for now. Not sure about the HD4850, I expect that's going as well, the HD4800 is being directly replaced by the HD5700, with the exception of course that the HD4870X2 has been replaced by the HD5870.

Getting a little bit more into dragon rising now I'm playing it, but it's very difficult to play due to the frame rate. 1680x1050 with no AA the max I can get once I've been injured is 16-17fps, which is tricky to play with.
Edit: Found the trick. If you get hurt or die, your frame rate is quartered unless you change res. Change the res and the frame rate comes back until the next time you get injured.
On top of this, I found:
Jeeps can't run over people
Jeeps explode on contact with water
Occasionally, walking forwards turns into walking upwards. Hold down sprint, and you'll bounce about 30-40 feet up in the air, still making the walking noise and animation.
Not impressed with this.

That's interesting because I played at 1680x1050 with everything maxed (and so did my friend) and neither of us had any problems and the frame rate was perfectly smooth. We're both still using DX9 so that could be the difference our experiences.

I thought it was a DX9 only game anyway... But yeah, I've had no problems with any slowdown either - ATI only problem?

I'm beginning to wonder if it's to do with FADE, the OFP copy protection system, since this isn't a genuine version of the game. I'll see if I can replicate it on the HD4830 PC.
Update: The HD4830 is not affected by the lag issue, which isolates it to one of four things:
DirectX10
Windows 7
Crossfire
Catalyst 9.10

Think it might be crossfire related, but it's difficult to tell.
Catalyst AI disabled cuts frame rates to 17-21 at 1680x1050, 11-14 at 2560x1600, which given the 50-70 at 1680x1050, 37-60 at 2560x1600 I normall get, suggests CF scaling for the game is good. However, this doesn't change the fact that the lowly HD4830 singular gets 30-40fps or so at 1680x1050 on its own in XP. I haven't adjusted as many game settings in XP as Win7, so there might be a setting that's causing a bug.
It's also worth mentioning that in addition to the game's own bugs there are a fair few graphical glitches, the barrel of the gun is half-invisible and bullet streaks are various different colours (including pure green and pink sometimes).
The non-graphical bugs include the game's 5.1 audio mode not working with rear speakers but thinking they're connected (i.e. if you turn around the voices go mute as they should be coming out the rear but aren't), random voice messages not being produced (i.e. the text for subtitles appears but they aren't spoken), in-game chat messages are limited to 37 characters and that mouse movement only occurs once 3 subsequent frames have been rendered, so at 12fps it takes 250ms after when you move the mouse before your character moves.

Never experienced any graphical glitches aside from the different coloured bullet streaks (and I think it's supposed to be that way - imitating tracers or something).
Can't comment on any of the other things aside from the controller latency - there's an option in the nVidia control panel that sets maximum number of pre-rendered frames and the default value is three - is there anything like that for ATI?

Shaff: Precisely it, from how my 4830 performs, that's what I'd expect from a 4870. I can only assume it has negative crossfire scaling with current drivers - a shame, as that's something the HD4000 series was meant to get rid of, and up until now it had. For the record however, I haven't tested it without 16x AF force applied. That comes next.

I haven't had a single one of the problems or glitches mentioned. And I have Windows 7 with Dx10, using Crossfire, with the Cat 9.10 drivers. Remember quad Crossfire has been difficult from day one so don't let that harm your opinion of the game. It must be at least mildly interesting if you've played it again.
Also it looks like the Cat 9.11 beta driver is out. Fancy giving it a try?

Managed to bring the performance up substantially (82->250fps in menu, 45->90fps in game, 14-25-30fps when bugged) by cutting settings from Maximum to 'High', which as far as I can see, only cuts the shadow size from 4096 to 1024, nothing else. It's conceivable that by using High, or a lower setting, the low frame rate when shot glitch isn't causing the game to run badly enough to be noticeable.
