The Q6600 has some serious multi-core grunt if you can make good use of it. Unless you do video editing, quad cores don't have a huge use yet, and an E6750 can certainly be overclocked further.

I think a better response would have been: Hey theonejrs!! I didn't ask the question, NuckNFuts did. Hope it helps him. ;)
Much nicer and doesn't attack someone for their age or ability!!!!! And speaking of ability: behalf???????
I second that...you handled that much nicer then I was going to..}:)
Q6600 for $225 is a very good deal...it will not OC as high as a 6750...but it will have better resale...when you eventually upgrade to a Penryn...where are you getting it?..

It was meant to be a general post, not addressed to you. I had also planned posts to you and NuckNFuts and got called away for about 1/2 hour. I somehow managed to get both posts mixed up and accidentally put the two together! The discussion had been about spyware programs keeping things out, along with this double-click thing and how I'm glad that I don't seem to need anti spyware because of Kaspersky. I would have been wiser to just start over!
Sorry for the confusion, and it wasn't a Senior Moment on my behalf either as I still have all my faculties, Thank You very much!

Hey guys guess what, some guy spent an hour trying to convince me that an E6600 is a MUCH better chip than an E6750 and that because of it's multiplier it will achieve a MUCH higher overclock. lol

I sincerely hope he was going to throw in for free, all that's necessary to make it do that! LOL!! You sure wouldn't be moving it around very much!
Oh! About that higher multiplier that he told you about, and the high overclock. He forgot to tell you the only place that will work is in the setup, just don't try to boot up the computer with it set on 4.0GHz! LOL!!
Mort81 had one at 3.6GHz on an Asus P5N-E (of all things) on air. Must have been an early P5N-E MB! Seen one on the net that hit 4.0 with a custom refrigerated CPU cooler. About $1200! LOL!!
Hope this was one of your friends and not a Computer store sales person. Coulda happened at Fry's though, as they're very knowledgeable there, after all, their paid minimum wage to do it! That's when they're not busy restocking the shelves with Merchandise that people returned because it didn't work! Hey, Keeps the cash flow moving! ROFLMAO!!

I will add to this just for reviewing purposes only, you choose as you desire.
I have and am using these in a side by side overclock and one set on the same exact mobo and the Q6600 is in deed harder to OC bt if done right and on the right mob, it will pass the E6750 with not much challange. They (mine bothe GO steppings of each) can hit the same 500FSB each (quad and dual) so if compared at those matched OC's the quad wins easily. The trouble is, most run a quad on a mobo not capable of giving it what it needs to get there so we compromise. Reducing the FSB to 450~475FSB on average for most on a P35. But even with that, the quad can still keep up with the dual in most test and feel better in some real world apps especially the ones, that flurish in multi tread/tasking (video transcoding and file compression/extracting and believe it or not, some gaming rendering (gets hot though).
Now I run my Q6600 as 480x8 for 3.85GHz in 1:1 and it feels better in media apps then my E6750 at same but in a 5:6 ratio. But like I said, I wouldn't buy one today. Wait till next month for both new quads and duals. I like the duals for the FSB with good RAM. Most the E6850'sd can hit 525FSB o a good P35 and all X38's I used.
As for that E6600, ya they come close but do not pass by almost 20MHz FSB. My max on E6600 was only 495FSB, the E6750 does 515FSB and cooler too.

Thanks for the info NNF. lol. Sorry but your nick makes me laugh. :D
I've read a little and "talked" to a few of my buddies here and another forum and they feel the E6750 or E6850 would better serve my needs. ;) Of course that all depends on what they have left on the day they drop prices. :D For the price I'm not sure that I might just get one anyway and wait another few months and see what is the HOT cpu then. LOL.
Again thanks to all and I'm sure that I"ll keep asking some silly questions SO get ready for that. :D
...gm
btw if they don't have either cpu that I'm looking at would you recommend the E6550 for about $160? Saves $$$ and gets me to the next wave of CPU's from Intel in the next few months....

No prob, I think the silliest question is the one you don't ask.
Afterall, theis is Afterdawn, and many of us regulars will be happy to help. We're "overclockers", it's what we do, it keeps our minds in shape.

8800-GT follow up?
On the model I ended up getting last month, the XFX PVT88PYDD4 Geforce 8800 GT shows as 670 clock and 112 shader. Is this just an OC'd version, or will I be able to add some OC to it or at least in the 2D area for HD-DVD and BD playback enhancement?
EDIT: After removing the cooler, it shows as a G92-270-A2. So is this the newer models then? EDIT 2: Anybody heard of this DX9L for XP x64? Supposed to be a patched DX10 to run on XP for new gomes.
I used the GT-OC models from BFG in the past few cards since I wasn't into OC'n the GPU, but now I want to get something to tweak with for fun.
What models by either ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, LeadTech are good to OC beyond the factory OC'd models? (512 GDDR3 w/ DX10, PCI-E 2.0, & HDTV out)

Man, E2140 sure is a great Overclocker, it can go up to 2.8Ghz on Stock Voltage! and if you increase the voltage it can go up to 3.2Ghz, 100% OC, the idle temp is about 21c and 50c on load
Thats what i read on Newegg's review, thats impressive.
Man, my computer/internet is having problem, none of the site's load, only AfterDawn works...what do hell

Yeah I believe Toms Hardware had a review about it and they praised it's overclock capability. Of course it basically is a core 2 duo with 1MB of cache.

Certainly very impressive. Only 1MB of cache though? Does that have much of an effect these days? I know there never used to be much of a difference between the X2 4200+ and 4400+, have times changed?

Well toms hardware had another review in which they compared the chache difference. Turns out it DOES make a difference in real life apps. Not so much in PCmark though, but who cares? It's not like you get a PC to get high scores in PCmark.

The game benchmarks are all at ridiculous frame rates, so I wouldn't consider that an advantage (I think Flight Sim X is the only game where you need a really fast CPU to get a decent frame rate). The only benefit I can see is applications like Winrar, which I suppose makes sense.
